Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics yeast acne

antibiotics

Avatar f tn ve spent the last year reading extensively), using acne normal acne treatments will make your acne worse if it is indeed yeast and not bacteria causing it. So if I was you, I would discuss the risks of exacerbating your breakout with your dermatologist who should instruct you to refrain from using products designed for acne vulgaris (as most skin professionals concur with it doing more harm than good if it's Malassezia responsible and NOT bacteria).
1394601 tn?1328032308 Vagisil is not a great solution for a yeast infection. The source of the yeast is the bowel which has an overgrowth of yeast with the antibiotic knocking the good beneficial bacteria out of balance and allowing the yeast to overgrow. So, Vagisil alone can't keep the area from continually being re-inoculated.
Avatar f tn I am a 28yr old female and have experianced yeast infections before, but this last time was worse than ever before! I do have a tendency to form yeast infections if required to take antibiotics. Recently I was perscribed penecillin and a steriod for 10 days to treat strepthroat... Within a matter of 2 days I felt better, but had started experiancing a large breakout of acne on my face!
Avatar n tn Dr. Rockoff, Thank you for your timely response. I appreciate your feedback and will certainly follow up with my dermatologist when an appointment becomes available. In the mean time, I would like to ask a few follow up questions. As a dermatological practitioner, what is the general perception of a skin reaction (such as a mild skin rash on the forehead) that occurs immediately after taking a month's worth of antibiotics?
Avatar f tn eating yogurt is helpful with yeast infections. Are you taking any antibiotics, perhaps for acne? They can cause yeast infections. Also oral sex can cause yeast infections if your partners mouth has a high population of yeast. The pH of your vagina may be off as well. Vagisil has an over the counter screening kit to test pH. If you have only tried over the counter stuff for your infections you need to go see a doctor to get it straightened out! Good luck!
Avatar f tn Is there a way to releive the yeast infection while on the antibiotics, or am I forced to stop acne treatment? I should mention I live in a remote town with no MD, I only get to see him once a year. Also, he gave me 3 months worth of treatment - After this cycle can I stop taking it? Or is this a life long thing? I don't want to live this way.
Avatar m tn Gentian helps the probiotics do a much better job. You probably still have some yeast or bad bacteria in the gut left over from the antibiotics. 300 to 600 milligrams taken 5 to 15 minutes before meals should stimulate the digestive system. By the way, in some people Zinc can take care of the acne problem without antibiotics...
Avatar f tn even a short course of antibiotics not only kills off harmful bacteria, it also kills off beneficial bacteria. Beneficial bacteria are not only an essential part of your immune system keeping you safe from things a whole lot more harmful to you that having a less than ideal appearance. Taking them as long as you have can leave you with chronic yeast infections, chronic fatigue syndrome, drug-resistant bacteria causing any number of diseases, fibromyalgia, and, yes, mental problems.
Avatar f tn I came across this site when I googled red, itching, weeping acne.
Avatar f tn I'm not telling you I know how to fix this, but all these antibiotics just make it worse as they kill off the beneficial bacteria that live in your intestines. I'd be surprised if you didn't have a chronic yeast overgrowth by now. Acne can be caused by different things -- hormones, reactions to diet, emotions, etc. But skin problems are generally thought of in natural medicine as the liver releasing toxins.
Avatar n tn I did overuse the topical steroids (OLUX E, super potent) on my chest and was on numerous antibiotics last year, which could have triggered a yeast/acne overgrowth. But I was just wondering, could I be comfortable with the fact that I'm HIV negative?
Avatar f tn Taking antibiotics to deal with a cosmetic problem is not the best health choice. I know, acne is a pain. When I was young a long time ago, they gave us tetracycline (basically what you're taking) like it was candy. But antibiotics kill of beneficial organisms that are extremely important for health both mental and physical. The overuse of antibiotics has created resistant strains of bacteria and fungi that have made stays in the hospital too risky.
Avatar n tn Treatment is by topical antibiotics and steroids. Local antibiotics of erythromycin and Clindamycin group also help. Retenoid group of drugs also help. Wear loose fitting clothes. Get your diabetes status checked as high blood sugar can also cause recurrent boils. Consult a skin specialist. Also get a cxomplete STD panel done. Take care!
Avatar m tn Ok so last summer I went on antibiotics for acne, about a month into it my groin started itching, badly. Within 4 days my whole groin and scrotum was red, raw, not to mention it was the heat of summer in New York walking around those four days were basically the worst conditions to have a yeast infection. However I had no idea what it was, did some research and figured out it was a yeast infection so I immediately stopped the antibiotics.
Avatar m tn Ugh, sorry to hear. A bad vag itch can drive you nuts! Fungal overgrowth can cause this, yeast being the most common. Although yeast infections usually have clumpy discharge that is odorless but itches, not always. You can try some vagisil wipes for now. You've never been diagnosed which is the best thing to do with your first yeast infection. Can you tell your mom and see your doctor? They swab it and tell you exactly what it is. Then treat it.
Avatar m tn If it is caused by Malasezzia Pityrosporum yeast then antibiotics will be of no use and may even make it worse. Bacteria and yeasts compete for space on your skin so if you are killing the bacteria with antibiotics then the yeast is able to grow with even more ease. If it is Malasezzia, this is treatable but the approach would be a little bit different. Let me know how it goes for you.
Avatar f tn I have never had bleeding or puss or anything come out of these areas but I am concerned. I did a little reasearch and think it could be a yeast infection. I don't have herpes do I?
Avatar m tn Basically a few years ago i took antibiotics for acne, i still suffer from acne now but my skin is very flaky too. This makes me pretty certain i suffer from candida, the last week or so i have had bad cravings for bread and ive eaten alot, to get rid of candida you are supposed to avoid foods with yeast in so this could have caused a problem. I'll see how things go in the next couple of days.
Avatar n tn I did have a week course of antibiotics in dec 2010 which was heavy and I believe was the problem, I also had other antibiotics previously for acne which probably weakened me prior to the heavy course. Anyway long story short I have been to the docs many times and ENT at the hospital so far to no avail, my symptoms are oral thrush (tongue mainly) that seems to come and go, its not major, headaches, dizzy spells and an increase with my athletes foot problem which all point to a candida problem.
Avatar f tn I took Monistat 1 for my very first yeast infection that I got as a result from 3 months of antibiotics for acne (I am 41 years old). My dermatologist who put me on the antibiotic told me to take Monistat so I did and I also stopped the antibiotoic. After a few days of burning, I felt fine. About 3 days later, I started spotting and it has now been about a week of spotting. At first I thought I was getting my period, but is still hasn't come.
Avatar f tn t get tested for UTI but took antibiotics for it and it seemed to clear up. Then I had full blown yeast infection which also cleared up after monostat. I patched up with my boyfriend a month after. I got tested in October for full STD panel, and it came back all negative. Boyfriend lives a little away, so we used to meet about once a month. We had sex in early December and late January. In Feb, about a week after our meeting, I developed UTI symptoms again.
Avatar f tn One of the common infections is candida (yeast overgrowth). I suspect that I have it because of my history using antibiotics but I experience no candida symptoms. So here goes my first question, do i have candida? On the same note, I am currently taking probiotic supplements to replenish the good bacterias in my stomach. My question is do I have to take probiotic supplements the rest of my life, if not for how long? or will my natural flora eventually replenish itself?
Avatar n tn Hello.. It sounds to me like it's feline acne, although I don't know what vet would not recognize it... Feline acne can be caused by stress, allergies, skin conditions, poor grooming habits, etc.. It looks like little black heads on the skin, and cats will scratch and they will ulcerate and be icky. Many cats develop an allergy to the plastic bowls they eat/drink out of. If her bowls are plastic I would switch to ceramic.
Avatar f tn I wear cotton or go free without anything on, I take two probiotics as well as acidopholus on top of that daily, i dont use any soaps or lotion with purfume, I dont wear tight clothing or anything like that so im not sure why it will not go away but ive taken so many antibiotics and vaginal inserts that its crazy. Ill get yeast infections right after completing the antibiotic, then end up with BV again right after. Its a huge cycle. I really dont know what to do at this point.
1472764 tn?1287588186 I've finally broken down and taken the antibiotics. Temp was 100.2 today. 10 days of azythromyocin. 1 pill a day. Dr. said its safe for pregnancy. I'm also taking probiotics to counteract yeast. Has anyone else been in this situation? Was your pregnancy and baby okay? I'm so worried.
Avatar f tn Are you sure you had thrush because sometimes a coated tougue can look like yeast? Were you on antibiotics at the time because that can cause it. Also, a lowered immune system can cause it too. Let me think about the B12 deficiency and your symptoms and see if I can think of anything else.
Avatar m tn I also started taking doxycycline antibiotics that I had leftover for unrelated issue (acne on my face.) This is day 3 and my labia seems less red, however is still swollen, itchy, with a burning/tingling feeling. The weird thing is it is only the left labia. Any idea what this could be? I do plan a dr visit but not for a few days, and I'd like input in the meantime.
