antibiotics

Avatar f tn acidophilus is safe with those and works great to prevent yeast infection.
328799 tn?1276565732 re going to have to start taking after the antibiotics are done, is some Acidophilus. The antibiotics not only wipe out the bad bacteria in your body, it takes out the good stuff too. Acidophilus will help you get the good stuff back! 250mg 2x a day is a normal doseage for an antibiotic.
Avatar f tn CalGal, And sorry I hijacked this thread. Thank you for edu-bi-cating me, I understand the role of probiotics much better now. I don't want to give out bad advice. Funny thing is, it coincides with me taking antibiotics recently, first time since 1990s, for a very scary breast issue, so I'm glad to know it's okay to take acidophilus with antibiotics... I invariably have a hard time with antibiotics and can't wait to get acidophilus in me after.
Avatar f tn My Lyme doc recommended a yeast-based probiotic (that is, not acidophilus) so that it could be taken at any time of day and taken with food. One brand I am aware of Florastor, but there are others. The more usual acidophilus-based probiotics cannot be taken with or near antibiotics, because acidophilus is a 'good' bacteria, but the antibiotics don't know it's 'good' and go ahead and kill it anyway.
653169 tn?1303446369 Make sure you get the probiotics/acidophilus from a health food store as opposed to a drug store. They are of MUCH higher quality and will make all the difference! If they are to be refrigerated, this will assure you they are of high quality and contain live bacteria. Probiotics with dead bacteria are basically good for nothing. The antibiotic will not kill the acidophilus. It is always a good idea to take acidophilus while taking antibiotics.
Avatar n tn "Acidophilus milk" exists, it's in most grocery stores, and so does yogurt that has acidophilus in it, and it's called "Activia." It's just another name for "good" bacteria that they grow in a lab, kind of like how mold grows on cheese, and they put it in capsules or milk or yogurt, and when a person consumes it, the "good" bacteria helps restore normal digestion.
Avatar f tn I found out to my dismay that it was erythromycin. I went to a drug store and bought the acidophilus and was able to take the antibiotic and actually enjoy the trip.) Have you been tested for allergies or sinus blockage? Good Luck!
Avatar n tn You should be following a GERD diet which can help lower the amount of acid produced by the stomach and give the antibiotics and assist. H. pylori loves acid, and makes every effort to make your stomach produce more. If you can reduce the amount of acid your stomach is putting out it could help you in the long run because most with H.
798555 tn?1292787551 The more usual kinds of probiotics (like acidophilus) are themselves bacteria and are killed by antibiotics, so if you take them at the same time or too close to the antibiotics you are taking against Lyme, then the probiotics will die too. Result: possible or likely imbalance in the body that can often lead to a systemic fungal infection. In contrast, S.boulardii (aka Florastor brand name) are NOT killed by antibiotics, so they remain active no matter what.
Avatar n tn m telling you that when you take antibiotics, a lot of times it will goof up your digestive tract, and consuming acidophilus should restore regular digestion. A colonoscopy is a routine exam these days and it's okay to have one, but as far as your digestion goes, the probiotics should help you feel better within a week.
Avatar f tn This is disturbing for me but I'll explain best to ability. Recently, about two to three days ago, I have noticed that my vagina has been smelling like onions, really strong, it's rather bad and is irritating. There's been discharge that is thick and colored, sometimes dark white and odd colors. I have been trying to figure out what it is from. I am not on my period, after I lost my period the scent started to be noticeable. I am not sexually active, at all, still a virgin.
502526 tn?1248887426 I have taken these enzymes in the past and they have 100 million live lactobacillus acidophilus cells in it, which should be great for preventing yeast infections...can you advise?
Avatar f tn The only trick is that acidophilus *cannot* be taken within something like an hour (?) before or after taking antibiotics, because the antibiotics will kill the acidophilus bacteria, and they would not be able to replenish the gut bacteria. I know others who have take Florastor, and they did fine. If you are concerned tho, then timing your meds carefully would allow for spacing the acicophilus from the antibiotics. Talk with your doc about it. (And welcome to the MedHelp Lyme page!
Avatar m tn he prescribed me the regular treatment with antibiotics and protonix...i was doing fine the first days..but after i changed to prevazid...i ve got bloating ,pain in my chest..heartburn..pain in my ribs and back...he tried to changed me to omeprazole but the side effects of that medicine are really horrible...i'm back to prevazid//just one time in the morning before meals( one hour before) \now i have an apointment in tow weeks to get the test of breath for h pylory...
Avatar f tn m am ANTI antibiotics.....but when I was 13 weeks pregnant I got a really bad Infection from a broken wisdom tooth and had to take them to kill infection before having it pulled. I'm now 38weeks and my Daughter is fine, although I was Leary. An infection in way more detrimental then The antibiotics.
5806286 tn?1375050370 I was recently diagnosed with a yeast infection by my doctor, which I didn't even have symptoms for. I know yeast infections are common during pregnancy, and I'm looking for a less synthetic way to help my body heal. My hoo haw doesn't react well to chemicals anyway. Anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Taking antibiotics can often cause diarrhea because of the antibiotics killing good bacteria along with the bad. But you may be able to prevent diarrhea if you take acidophilus capsules regularly at the same time you are taking antibiotic.
Avatar m tn I have a cramp in my gut and frequent visits to the bathroom. My doctor said to take the acidophilus and try eating more bananas to try and firm up the stools. I am wondering if I should give this more time to work or is there something else I should be doing. Thanks.
2109342 tn?1380908975 S. boulardii is the generic name, and a brand name for it is Florastor. It is *yeast-based* and so is not affected by when you take antibiotics. (My LLMD has his patients take Florastor for that very reason, but I had problems with it -- I'm apparently genetically yeast-sensitive, and ended up with a really bad systemic fungal infection that took some effort to get rid of. My LLMD said he had never seen that happen before, and I believe him ... but it can happen, just fyi, fwiw.
Avatar f tn I took oral antibiotics for about 4 years and had no real issues with adverse effects after I stopped.
Avatar n tn I have had excess bloating and gas for the last month and is really uncomfortable and embarassing. I don't know what is causing it because I never had this before. I have an appt with Gastro doc in a couple of weeks but is there something that will help ini the meantime? I try Gas-X and seems to help a bit but I am dreading to find out that it might be something worse. Any advice?
Avatar m tn Why do I get bad cramps in stomach an intestines after eating medjool dates and date rolls? I have been eating them for the past two months but now have just started to be affected in the past two weeks. My Dr. gave me Nexium yesterday but I wonder if I should have received some antibiotics instead. Now when I eat them I get massive cramps that are very painful and won't go away unless I take a few acidophilus pills. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn 5 weeks ago my dog had a gastral infection that was treated with antibiotics and anti nausea medication. She had recoverd and had a relaps of the same symthoms. Is Pine Nut Oil or Manuka Honey an alternative remedy for stomach ulsers? Is the advertisement for these product true? If you are taking synthetic antibiotics do they sterilize and kill all bacteria? do you need to introduce good bacteria like Acidophilus into the stomach?
Avatar f tn m not sexually active and it seems to kind of be back and forth. I did mention the itching to my obgyn and she said that it was most likely an irritation to something I was using - so I've switched to a different soap etc. I was also recently put on birth control, and I can tell a difference in the regular discharge of my vagina. Not smelly, strange colored, or anything. It just seems to be a bit more than before. I'm worried.. my OCD and anxiety is kicking in.
Avatar m tn I had three courses of unavoidable antibiotics back in November 2016, and since then my digestive system has really been messed up. I've been having lots of yogurt and took acidophilus for a while but after five months I still have very loose bowel movements or diarrhoea daily - only during the night and in the morning. I tried taking some other probiotics but gave up after a few days as they made it much worse.
255722 tn?1452546541 do the Florastor and whatever your doc says, but keep an eye out for odd new symptoms and report them promptly and get your doc's attention so s/he doesn't blow it off. Chances are very very high that you will not have the problems I did, but would like to save you from it if I can! Don't be afraid of the treatment -- I know someone who sailed straight through on the very same drugs and supplements I did, without any problems at all.
8975356 tn?1416414054 Hi, the main side effect of antibiotics is diarrhea and sometimes loss of appetite, this is because this medicine tends to kill the normally residing flora in the gut like lactobacillus acidophilus (good bacteria) that helps with digestion. This can result in diarrhea. Try to include yogurt in your diet as it is a probiotic which replaces lactobacillus acidophilus (good bacteria) that helps with digestion. And Prebiotics are nondigestible carbohydrates that act as food for probiotics.
Avatar f tn This will cause bad tummy aches, plus, all the canker sores and cold sores. You need to add Acidophilus to her diet, this will replace the friendly flora that the drugs have removed.
7678907 tn?1400809113 DoTERRA is the only thing that helped me because antibiotics made me vomit. I recommend peppermint to ease any aches and pains, but be cautious around the breast as it can block your milk ducts, on gaurd for all your other symptoms.
