242516 tn?1368223905 When do I need antibiotics for a cold, as an adult? Never. Are you sick with a runny nose, sore throat, cough, possibly even goey green and brown stuff coming out? Well, you're not alone, you've got a cold like millions of other adults right now around the world. Colds are upper respiratory infections that are almost always caused by viruses in adults. They typically get better after a week to ten days.
Avatar f tn The tests are not all that accurate, and must be read in light of your symptoms and history. You should ask your MD about taking (more) doxycycline -- and tell him/her whether you stopped taking it before finishing the whole course as prescribed.
Avatar f tn I get bronchitis all the time as well. I've had it and gone without antibiotics. It took me months to get rid of. The next time I got it, I did not want to suffer for months on end for no reason so I got antibiotics immediately. Trust me, it's not worth going without the meds, so get it checked out and get well.
Avatar f tn Hi Karen, I am a believer of treating them as soon as they are an infection ... that is my mom opinion raising 4 kids oldest is 17. I don't buy into waitng and seeing .. not with the history of my kids (asthma, bronchitis, et al) and GW's history ... with these kids they probably also suffer seasonal allergies and their mucous membranes are being challeneged already .... the antibiotic for a true infection can only help in the risk vs beneft dept. And, guess what .
598892 tn?1219797635 I have cephalexin 250 per 5ml. this is the left overs of my kids antibiotics. I do not have enough money to take her to the vet and the vet I tried to take her to said he wouldn't help or give any advice. Please help can I give this to her in very small dosages to help her. She is very calm, enough to let me put warm compresses on her belly. Should I do this also?
Avatar f tn Hello, I am also a many year sinusitis veteran. Many antibiotics no longer work for me, so I have taken many different ones. Some have also wreaked havoc on my stomach. Years ago, I found that taking Acidophilus capsules (not tabs) is extremely helpful. (I could never take erythromycin, and I filled a prescription on my way out of town to take my kids to Disneyland. I found out to my dismay that it was erythromycin.
280418 tn?1306325910 MDs regularly prescribe antibiotics for acne, for ear aches, for dental work, for all manner of things, but when it comes to a horrible disease like Lyme, they suddenly get a case of the horrors? It's Lyme politics ... again. I'm sure your father is only concerned about your wellbeing, but it's the "There ain't no Lyme here!' crowd among the medical profession that is putting forth this hypocritical stance on antibiotics. Oh golly there I go again, ranting. Sorry!
Avatar m tn I won't participate in the poll because I don't have lyme. But I was taking antibiotics for mycoplasma infection (CFS) and that has helped me a great deal.... still have more zapping to do though. For some reason, antibiotic therapy in CFS patients is taking longer than sarcoidosis and autoimmune patients. We have multiple infections I guess.
457438 tn?1302068407 But now she is having no fever but have cough. Is it enough for giving antibiotics (AMOXYLIN 125 mg) for pneumonia.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bipolar in 1998 and have been on lithium alone for ten years. Being adopted, I have no health history of my own, yet I have two sons. My oldest is almost 18 and I have never had him tested due to all the trauma of my own illness,(denial is big with me). I have had my suspiscions though, and I know my son has too. Does and illness like this tend to skip a generation or more likely to pass directly from parent to child?
Avatar f tn Do I need to premedicate for Root deep cleaning due to gum disease?? Was diagnosed aged 20 with mitral valve prolapse and mild regurgitation..25 years later most echos show no sign of regurgitation though..Can I take amoxicillin afterwards??
Avatar f tn This year I developed bronchitis in April and was sick for two months. After taking antibiotics, allergy meds and inhalers, I recovered. I continued on the allergy meds. A little over two months later the cough started up again. The doc put me back on Advair. I used it for two months and continued getting worse. I saw the doctor and he put me on Ventolin with my Advair and antibiotic. I saw him a week later worse and with thrush in my mouth and throat.
Avatar m tn If you go to the dentist and there is a huge abscess which has to be treated before the tooth can be touched, then antibiotics are the only solution. Not too long ago in history, it was common for people to die from such things. Antibiotics definitely remove such infections, and without treatment the toxins would eventually burst into the blood stream, killing us. My wife nearly died of pneumonia and was on life support.
Avatar m tn I know it hurts, bad, but I also know you survive and feel much better after getting clean for awhile. I just have to balance work, kids, and everything else this time whereas last time I just took two weeks off work and had my (now ex)wife handle the kids. Don't have that luxury this time.
Avatar n tn Well, cycloplegic refractions (the whole big pupil, blurry vision drops), are good but that would be catching it before hand...and just leaving it at that makes it sound as if you are just telling them its pseudomyopia, but not treating it, other than telling them you are not giving them what they came in asking for and not telling them what to do to relieve it. A really good case history with binocular workup may be (and probably is) just as good in diagnosing it.
1011295 tn?1320870972 Meanwhile, the antibiotics (except for the Doxy) were making me so sick, it felt far worse that whatever disease I have! Not to mention, if it is Lupus, treating me for Lyme could be aggravating it.
Avatar f tn prediabetic range is 101-125 fasting and I believe 140-150 post prandial. Do you have a history in your family, child drink excessively or urinate frequently at night? Is there a reason you are checking blood sugars? Need to call pediatrician and might have an A1C test done.
Avatar m tn I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
Avatar f tn I havent had any miscarriages but throughout this pregnancy I've been cramping and spotting there was times that it would be more then spotting and i would always go to the ER and everything would be ok and now im 13 weeks dont worry everything gonna be ok im always cramping and it worrys me
Avatar m tn I tested positive for Chlamydia after having it for 2 months in my body. My doctor prescribed me Azithromycin tablets to take as one dose and then gave me an injection of Ceftriaxone and prescribed me Doxycycline and Metronidazole after I told him I was still having severe abdominal pain. However, my doctor said that after the pelvic exam and ultrasound, he did not suspect that I had PID and that a laparoscopy would be more definitive to diagnose it.
Avatar n tn I tested positive during my 1st pregnancy, too. It's very common. IV antibiotics during labour are a precaution for your little one. Babies can get very sick in the first little while with complications from the Strep, so it's good to go for the antibiotics. The IV is no hassle at all. It all kind of just happens! Hope you have great doctors and midwives to help you through. They do an amazing job!
Avatar n tn I was told the antibiotics taken for the H. Pylori. made me a prime candidate for this new infection. So I took the new antibiotics prescribed and this to subsided . It has been 4 months later and I wake one morning with the severe stomach pain truly feeling like i am dying I have blood work done and it is positive for H. Pylori again. My question is how often can I expect this reoccur and is this common? When I have a flair up of this I am in bed for at least three days and nearly dehydrate .
Avatar f tn Did you get him from a family, a breeder or pet store? If a family or breeder I would contact them to see if there is a history of seizures or disorder with either parents or any problems with puppies from the same litter. Have you taken him to the vet? If not I would make it a priority.
Avatar f tn Over a month ago I developed a sinus infection, congestion fever. Took a zpak, felt good while on it. The day I stopped I started to feel crummy and the fever came back. Went back to the dr after 10 days and I tried levaquin 500mg for three days, on the third day I really lost my appetite, and was shaking/shivering with chills. So the next day the dr switched to clindamycin 300mg and prednisone.
Avatar f tn I took my antibiotics for bv and then went to sleep. Woke up sweating and running to the bathroom having diarrhea. I'm still sweating and I'm having some stomach pain. Anybody experience this? Is it the antibiotics doing it to me ? I'm 17 weeks pregnant.
