Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics for orthopedic surgery

Avatar f tn Hi there! Well, without knowing the relevant clinical details or a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation; though usually a surgical correction is likely to be advised in the situation. Joint replacement/ bionic leg are not usually considered in mild-moderate cases, especially in young adults. Hope this information is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn Started on iv Cefa in a Pikk line 3 times daily for 6 wks. It was a non resistant Staph, still sensitive to Cefa. Off antibiotics for 2 weeks, inflammatory markers were normal. Slides taken during the revision when they replaced the metal implants on Jan 12 '10 showed less than one WBC per high power field. Three weeks later(Feb 5), had a draining tract out my incision with copious amounts of pus. Cultured to be a non resistant Staph again.
Avatar m tn Hello Even after following the advised procedure, infection occurred within a week after Revision TKR, what can be done now. The antibiotics given not solving the problem and Dr advise for a another operation or to go for fusion, and on that also he is saying it can't be say 100% curable.
3112530 tn?1434032033 My surgeon recommended I see the head of the pain management team who has years of experience but the waiting time is over a month but to me this may be worth it. I trust my orthopedic surgeon for what he has done in helping me. I know my condition will never get better and I will never be pain free but some of the treatments have helped. I also use Voltaren gel which help bring down the pain level at least one notch and that has been beneficial for me.
Avatar f tn I dont know if its the hardware or the tendons, or if the bone is still broken. its been one year since surgery- my doctor didnt even do an x ray the last time i visited with pain. (this is a "new to me" doctor as my insurance dropped the original surgeon..) he said i could have my ankle fused, but did not mention anything about the hardware. He is not an ankle specialist.
Avatar f tn I began seeing a new orthopedic party of stony Brooke hospital and learned around the end of October I had contracted mrsa in my elbo and had to have the hardware removed and had a PICC line inserted for long-term IV antibiotics, was placed on vancomycin for 60 days to clear up the mrsa, around a month into the treatment I had an allergic drug reaction and my entire body was covered with what the doctor called a “drug rash”.

565239 tn?1307874590 ve been to two Neurosurgeons for evaluations, one who was too anxious or surgery (which I declined) and one who said surgery isn't my best option and referred me to Pain Management doctors, whom I've been seeing for two years. My problem is the PM doctors want my GP to prescribe any pain medications. My GP is very cautious with them and is giving me a hard time when I ask for refills of my hydrocodone 5/500.
Avatar f tn I am in the Balto/Wash area looking for an orthopedic doctor who will inject "off label" synvisc for ankle arthritis. I have talke to many docs and not one of them so far is using this for the ankle, only knees. I read that people are having this done. Can anyone direct me to a doc. or orthopedic group anywhere? I'm willing to travel for this treatment. Also, if anyone and tell me what their results have been.

Avatar m tn t work and you choose not to do the surgery I would find out from your orthopedic where you can go for pain management. My heart goes out to you that you remain safe in whatever direction you choose. Please keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your very prompt reply. I had my surgery in the USA. These two surgeons work together on some cases. The neurosurgeon did the laminectomy; the orthopedic surgeon did the fusion. I do have three rods, but two are on the side and one crosses in the middle. I have a curved spine (which I never knew I had until I was 64). Have always been a very active woman, I have always been slender. I saw my orthopedic surgeon today and I know he is concerned, but didn't seem overly.
Avatar m tn It developed a day after a same-day orthopedic surgery. I was not catheterized. It was also five days after having unprotected sex. I followed up with my primary doctor two days after developing the problem. He did a urinalysis and prescribed me 1g of Azithromyacin and a three day course of Cipro. at this Point I started drinking less water because of the fear of the pain when going to the bathroom.
Avatar n tn In September 2011, I crushed the top of my tibia and fibula. The surgery consisted of putting in metal plates on both bones because they were so badly damaged. The rehab was not so good and I had to have a manipulation because the scar tissue locked up my leg. After which the rehab went as best as it could, I still do not have the flexion as I used to which causes me to limp. I am walking with pain all the time and am afraid I will twist and fall.
Avatar f tn t doing anything except standing when this happened..she recently had surgery on Nov 30Th to repair it.her orthopedic surgeon said that with the repair he is not optimistic about the knee cap staying in place due to bone shifting and as well as tissue degenerating..is there anyone who has been through this with their children or anyone know if there is a disorder that is associated with this type of injury?
Avatar f tn I am having knee surgery after the first of the year (2009), and know that it is important to have my teeth cleaned prior to that surgery to avoid potential infections in my mouth from migrating to the knee surgery location. However, my dentist is insisting that I need complete (18) dental xrays to spot potential infection at the root of the teeth. My orthopedic surgeon has not recommended such xrays. Do I need them?
Avatar n tn The majority of herniated discs will heal themselves in about six weeks and do not require surgery. Non-surgical methods of treatment are usually attempted first, leaving surgery as a last resort and in this non steroidal drugs, lumbosacral back support and steroid injections are very useful. First of all, try conservative methods first like warm compresses and taking anti inflammatory pain killers like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac.
Avatar f tn He is cautious about surgery and would like for me to avoid it as long as possible. However, the pain is unbearable now. I will definitely ask about the other treatments you suggested as I have not tried them yet. Thanks again.
Avatar m tn I live in Taylor County and need to have surgery on my shoulder for numerous injuries. I only have straight Medicaid and do not have the option for an HMO in this area. My referring physician can not locate a surgeon that accepts straight Medicaid. They have checked in surrounding counties and can not find one that accepts Medicaid out of the area. My local Medicaid office can not help me. They suggest finding a surgeon anywhere in Florida that will work with the local office on payment.
Avatar f tn 30am. I will be in the hospital from that Wednesday until Saturday and then of course have Physical Therapy in my home.It takes anywhere from 2 to 6 months to recover from this surgery. The nice thing is that we have a one story home here in AZ instead of the 2 - story in TN and because of that I had to stay upstairs for 6 weeks before I could safely negotiate the staris. I'm just so relieved that after that at least my hip pain will be gone.
5631890 tn?1371310040 I was diagnosed with a spinal deformity "Flat Back" at Mayo Clinic in April 2013 & was told to never go to any one but a Spinal Deformity Neurosurgeon or Orthopedic Surgeon. I was told you can't correct one end or the other the entire spine has to be worked on to correct the deformity. I went to a Spinal Deformity Orthopedic Surgeon & He blasted every thing every doctor ever did on me & told me he wants to only work on T-10 down, not the entire spine.
Avatar n tn It's been about 10wks, had therapy and there has been no improvement at all in my thumb, still can not get it to bend on it's own. Orthopedic wants to give it 3 more wks and is considering sugery. EMG showed median nerve damage and anterior nerve damage as well. What are your thoughts on having surgery. It's become quite a problem for me to grab large things or grasp a ball too without having that thumb to bend.
Avatar m tn I have had this pain for about a year now. I have been to many orthopedic doctors, as well as PT's and Chiropractors.
