Probiotics can be helpful for preventing group b Strep. They help build up the good bacteria that you should have in your gut so the bad bacteria, like gbs, can't survive. I have 2 boys and I also was a carrier for group b strep, not a big deal, while your in labour they'll hook pen g into your IV so it will have no affect on your baby :)

I had one daughter at 37 weeks and one on her due date with group b strep. My dr never told me it caused early labor and I've never had a bladder infection or a uti in my life. The antibiotics aren't going to do anything really. Its a bacteria that lives in you and is completely harmless to us.

So I found out today that I tested positive for Group B Strep and will need antibiotics during delivery. I'm kind of bummed. I'm a ftm and I'm wondering if anyone else has had any issues with group b strep and if their babies were ok after the birth?

I know you need antibiotics during labor to prevent the baby getting infected. But then I read about late onset group strep b.. Which the baby can get up until 3 months old, which can cause meningitis, but you can't prevent it?? Does anybody know about this ?

I had it too and yes you can still have the epidural. Group strep b isn't a bad thing at all for adults, it's just not good for baby, that's why we need the antibiotics.

From what I remember of my last labour (also positive for strep B) they gave me antibiotics but also had to deliver within 24 hours of waters breaking to avoid infection or something.

Basically the strep b bacteria different from what causes strep throat lives in our bodies like so many other bacteria good and bad and when we're pregnant and test positive were said to be `colonized` so not really anything you can do about it or to prevent it its not an std. Just means you need antibiotics during labor to prevent it passing to baby.

I got a phone call from my midwife this morning to come in that I needed to take antibiotics and I went in and the doctor told me I have group b strep! He told me it's nothing to worry about because we are treating it but he didn't give me any information I asked him what causes it he just kept saying it's common about 25% of population have it without knowing!

t want antibiotics (I am against preventative antibiotics for a number of reasons) but my midwife showed me how to monitor my baby for the first week or so every 4 hours and what signs to look for (high/irregular breathing rate, heartbeat too fast, fever, even rashes can suggest exposure to the bacteria, but they're not a sign of infection). My baby had high breathing rates for a day or 2 which we kept an eye on but turned out she was fine.

Ah just found out I have group B strep infection and freaking out. Dr said it's mild case and put me on antibiotics but I'm still scared that it could cause damage to bubs. I'm 7 weeks by the way? Anyone else is in the same situation?

First, be sure you know that what you are assuming is correct. You having Group B strep does not mean you got it from your fiance, Group B can exist in both men's and women's digestive tracts and intestines, and sometimes it pops up and other times it does not. You could have had it for a long time, and also, you could give it to her and not the other way around. She should get tested for it.
