Hello, i am now concerned, I was perscribed penicillin for strep throat on monday (the day of my urine test) and have been taking it all week, (i got another urine test on Thursday) they both came out negative for gonorrhea and chlamydia after unprotected vaginal sex a week ago
i am now concerned because i have read on here that taking an antibiotic can mask the test and cause false negatives?? is this true??

My brother tested positive for strep throat today and I've been around him..they're supposed yo induce on Monday. If I am to come down with strep will they still induce? How soon will strep affect me if I've caught it? And is there anything I can do meanwhile to help fight any bacteria I've already been exposed to?
I am now on antibiotics for strep throat and it seems to not be work, which I had a throat culture with positive for strep.

Hi I had strep throat last month... yea antibiotics should kick in after 48 hours...of taking them.(I actually had 2 lots of anti..).. By next weekend you shouldn't be contagious...Get better soon....Its really painful to have....

My doctor has taken a throat swab the result of which is to come back in 2 days. He has told me he's suspected strep throat and has prescribed 10 days of antibiotics. However, since then, the boil-like red spots on my throat, or rather, palette, have become much nicer and my sore throat has disappeared. If you tested positive for strep throat your doc should put you on antibiotics asap. They should also be able to tell you if you can take anything over the counter to help with the soreness. Feel better!
In fact, my son once got a staph infection in his throat that mimicked strep and thank God he was on antibiotics because they thought he had strep at first.
And it doesnt affect anyone/anything as long as you get the antibiotic during labor my dr explained it as being similar to dirt under your finger nails it doesnt hurt anything, some people have it some dont, and the only time it is harmful is when you put your nails in your mouth (comparing that to labor lol)
What are you being treated with the antibiotic for? That could have a bearing on when you can return to playing hockey. If it's for say a tooth infection or strep throat, then you can probably return sooner than if it's for something like pneumonia or bronchitis.
I went to my doc but he didnt even look at my mouth :( he didn't take me seriously at all just spoke about the baby and that's it. I had strep once and it burned my throat so i kind of thought it was my tonsils but not i hear of advanced strep ugh I'm def going for a second opinion tm.... and can u still have advanced strep w out fever?

When I was a child and would get strep throat, my pediatrician would prescribe antibiotics for my mom and dad too as my germs were so strong, LOL, they still are. It did not hurt them any and they did not get my strep. So, I think it is all up to the individual. Immunity usually develops if you take something for a long period. I would ask your doctor if you are concerned about this however.

re going to do is give you the correct antibiotics that will serve a dual purpose to cure your strep throat and to get you prepped for cervix ripening/labor/induction. I think not divulging that your on antibiotics will cause more damage since they would possibly overtreat you with antibiotics and could lead to a dreadful and hard to get rid of case of c. Diff...believe me...I've been there and you dont want that...lol.

2 weeks ago I had BV. Took vaginal antibiotics for that. That gave me a yeast infection, I'm taking Conesten for that, and now I come to find out I may have strep throat, i was given antibiotics for that. I'm not sure I want to take them. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain. If you develop a fever, or if there is enlargement of the tonsils with pain or if there is white coating on the tonsils, you will need to consult your primary care physician for a strep test, which if positive you will be given antibiotics.

Most sore throats are caused by viruses so he may not get exposed to this same strep throat if the kids have a sore throat at school. Strep throat is contagious and so he and the other kids should not share utinsils, and you should throw away his tooth brush after the antibiotics are finished as he can reinfect himself. You and other family members and friends could have been exposed before he was put on antibiotics but he would be ok now since he is on antibiotics.

And strep is notoriously resistant. They now use higher doses of things and antibiotics have additive agents to help them stay potent in killing the bacteria. So, if you took the full course and are still sick, follow back up with your doctor for the next step. Knock this out hopefully soon!
