Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia affects body

anorexia

Avatar f tn I'm sorry you are in a position to have to analyze this. I would venture a guess that a fair number of girls do not have a very good self image. And losing weight sometimes helps and sometimes not. That's a bit different than body dysmorphic disorder. Body dysmorphic disorder is a total preoccupation. It does often accompany an eating disorder such as bulimia and/or anorexia. You don't say how you lost the weight and if you actively are trying to lose more.
Avatar f tn There is also an eating disorders forum on here as well which might help, sadly I don't think youre going to get a lot of help with anorexia on the bipolar forums but its worth the question. I tend to be the same as leftcoastchick - doctor is the person you need, I know anorexia needs serious help and counselling but id also wonder if it is anorexia which has fairly specific symptoms and behaviours as opposed to not eating which is indeed possibly an attempt at suicide.
Avatar f tn It originates in the mind but it affects the body too, and it can be one of the most difficult things to overcome. I know, because I have been there. My case wasn't as extreme as many, but I have restricted my calories and lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. In fact, it was during that period that my heart issues started. I would get flutters and arrhthymias and all sorts of scary stuff. It was during recovery, however, that my troubles were at their worst.
5805034 tn?1403865293 Hi. We're quite similar, actually. I've always hated my body (I've been diagnosed with anorexia) and I also hav depression. If you are genuinely unhappy with your body, do something about it! If you suspect you are overweight, contact your GP to arrange a diet plan to help lose weight. Or you could start cutting down on carbs, etc and excercise 30-60 minute a day. Your depression, however, needs seeing to. Tell your parents about it.
1158511 tn?1262554942 At 5'4" and 87.4 pounds, your body weight would qualify for anorexia. Low body weight is one of the criteria for anorexia. By visiting the bella vita website you could take our free eating disorder survey and also read more about anorexia to help you understand more.
Avatar n tn Not eating properly affects more than your weight. It affects all the organs of your body. Please check with your doctor. I hope you can find a balance between feeling good about yourself and feeling healthy too.
Avatar f tn and im sure your pretty jast the way you are, but if you dont believe that...buety still loved the beast. =D but mainly if your worried about your body, look at those this super models with their bones sticking out, MAYBE go on a health diet, so that you know the food going in your body is good and do lots of exercise so it will turn into muscle. let me know how you go ok.
Avatar f tn t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.
Avatar m tn My body fat went from around 15 % to under 8 % after taking accutane. I am extremely thin now and cannot put on weight on no matter how much I eat or what I eat. For example I can eat a whole tub of ice-cream and has no affect on my body. I have read about others have this issue also. Isotretinoin (accutane) obviously messed up something in my body so that it doesn't metabolize or absorb food the way it did pre-accutane. If anyone has any knowledge in this area plz respond. ty.
Avatar n tn The only reason anyone should have the right to comment is if they are worried about your health, such as if you have anorexia or an obesity problem that a doctor has told you is serious. There is a partner out there for everyone, you will find someone.
179856 tn?1333547362 t know anything about Portia. I had no idea she suffered from anorexia nervosa. I assumed she had anorexia - eating disorder from any cause - and that is why I assumed the anorexia resulted from her cirrhosis. Now, that I have read the gossip/Oprah stuff I lean more towards Willy's opinion.
1238036 tn?1457315447 I have recovered leaps and bounds from many aspects of long term eating disorder behavior. I started with Anorexia from the age of 16-18 which progressed to Bulimia. The main difficulty I have is with an almost constant thought obsession regarding my body size. I seem to be hyper-aware to every pound I think I might have put on. To be honest I don't tend to use the word pound; as I feel my weight jumps around about half stones rather than pounds.
Avatar f tn first of all your periods stop because you are starving your body, and messing up all your hormone levels and plus you have no body fat. i have had an ed for almost 12 years and i didnt get my period i think till i was 18 it is not healthy to do. i have tremendous amounts of knowledge of this disease and if you ever need someone to talk to please just leave a message for me.
Avatar f tn i suffered from anorexia an still have blips from time to time is this the cause of my PCOS? have i caused my infertility???
Avatar f tn I'm a 16 year old female and I am barely ever hungry. I do feel hunger only in the morning and around 2-3 hours after I eat breakfast. I usually eat two handfuls of cereal with milk. When it comes to dinner, I'll take a few bites and I'll immediately feel full and nauseous. However I can eat a lot of sweets and salty things like crisps without a problem. A doctor told me that this is anorexia but I don't want to lose weight or feel bad about my body or anything like that.
Avatar n tn I have had anorexia for over six months now, and about 2 months into it, I stopped getting my period. I'm really scared, and I told my parents what was going on, but they seem to not think it's such a big deal. I have been eating regularly lately, and am doing a lot better; but I am afraid that my period won't come back again, and I won't be able to have kids someday.
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
1310561 tn?1285863461 Are you crazy? You are obviously not smart for your age. Anorexia can cause some severe damage on your body. If you don't give your body the nutrients it needs long time effects will come. Then you'll just look really nasty and skinny, and that is not attractive for anyone. So if thats what your going for, to look good, you're just making yourself look worse. Try a diet or exercising don't put your body through that!!
1017480 tn?1303107824 It is now 5 years down your path and your body has been trained to act in a certain way. Each time you go through an episode your body over-produces certain chemicals, digestive acids and enzymes, adrenaline and much more. Adrenaline is produced in the adrenal glands and is a toxic poison that is not meant to remain in your system.
918035 tn?1274644533 You have many symptoms of anorexia. Anorexia is not about the food, it's about underlying issues that causes a person to go away from food. I will advise you to speak to an adult. Hopefully, you could talk to your mom or dad. You need to get some professional help and support. You need to see a medical doctor just to check on your overall medical condition and growth.
Avatar f tn My anorexia is mostly due to my GAD. So I really worry about the impact the anorexia has on my body. I dont want to be anorexic. But anorexia takes over when im stressed, anxious or depressed. I dont think I have had a day without at least one of those ha. Anyway. My blood results came back fine on my muscles. Which is great. Im still worried about my heart rate. It is still high. Resting rate 110-113bpm. When I stand up it is 120-127bpm.
20893793 tn?1580909977 Whoa, losing over 10% of your body weight in a week and a half is probably not healthy. Although, any weight lost that quickly is most likely mostly water weight and may come back. I have a question -- are you still a child/teenager, and if you are, it is very important to maintain a healthy diet and healthy weight as your body matures and brain continues to develop.
766752 tn?1234946743 I do know it takes time for the body to adjust eating food again. Be patient. Stay with the facts; try not to past judgment. The facts are you get a “bad sickey feeling” and “acidey feeling”. You body does not feel good. If these physical symptoms continue, please see your medical doctor. Avatar f tn It is common to encounter the emotional, psychological, and medical consequences of this disorder even after a long period of stabilization. The toll anorexia takes on one’s body can be immense. It is an integral part of recovery to stay closely connected to your physician and have regular check ups. It would also be important to inform your doctor of your previous history with anorexia as this may alter his/her evaluation and/or recommendations.
