Common Questions and Answers about How anorexia effects the body

anorexia

Avatar m tn Hello, Weight loss is one of the side effects of taking Accutane and it may cause anorexia as well. Eat a healthy nutritious diet and consult your doctor if weight loss is a major problem. You may need to be put on some other medication for acne rather than Accutane. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn It originates in the mind but it affects the body too, and it can be one of the most difficult things to overcome. I know, because I have been there. My case wasn't as extreme as many, but I have restricted my calories and lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. In fact, it was during that period that my heart issues started. I would get flutters and arrhthymias and all sorts of scary stuff. It was during recovery, however, that my troubles were at their worst.
1310561 tn?1285863461 Are you crazy? You are obviously not smart for your age. Anorexia can cause some severe damage on your body. If you don't give your body the nutrients it needs long time effects will come. Then you'll just look really nasty and skinny, and that is not attractive for anyone. So if thats what your going for, to look good, you're just making yourself look worse. Try a diet or exercising don't put your body through that!!
Avatar f tn how you feel about your body is what gives you the disorder, the behaviors the define which kind. there are two types of anorexia, restrictive and binging/purging (which doesn't always include binging). it sounds like you have anorexia nervosa b/p, but i am not a doctor and you should really see one so you can get better. long term purging has terrible effects on your body, everything from sore throats to cardiac arrest.
Avatar f tn She recently passed away back in December but was an advocate against anorexia. Her body was so traumatized that it began to physically take its toll on her, her body got to the point where it was so malnutritioned she couldn't even repair the damage. Here is the article on her: http://www.foxnews.
869670 tn?1239964618 You are taking the first step, maddie, by saying you need help, and by stating, at least on this forum, that you are anorexic. The next step is to tell someone in your life who you trust and, with their support, to get professional help. You can start with your family doctor. But he or she will, hopefully, refer you to someone who is an expert in eating disorders. You can also try attending a meeting of OA.
Avatar f tn and im sure your pretty jast the way you are, but if you dont believe that...buety still loved the beast. =D but mainly if your worried about your body, look at those this super models with their bones sticking out, MAYBE go on a health diet, so that you know the food going in your body is good and do lots of exercise so it will turn into muscle. let me know how you go ok.
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome, Unfortunately eating disorders such as anorexia effects the entire body, including the brain and nervous systems. What you are experiencing could be due to your anorexia, as it can cause peripheral neuropathy, vitamin B12 deficientcy etc so it would be worth discussing this with your doctor. Cheers..........
Avatar n tn How old are you first of all?
Avatar f tn I agree with you. Too many people get after us for wanting to be "too thin" but you know what? We have the right to be thin, if that's how you wish to go about it, all the more power to you!
Avatar n tn I constantly think about myself and my own eating habits. And literally, no one else. I just want help. The side effects it has had on my body are not worth wanting to look skinny. Some days are good for me and I'll eat around 1800 calories, then I'll have a string of bad days and limit my intake again. I truly believe that I need professional help. Maybe you should do the same. Because I've proven to myself that I can't get over this alone.

Avatar n tn thx for such a detailed answer!:) as i have these worries, i go searching a lot online abt it... and i believe i find i had some symptoms very close to anorexia, like bad sleeping conditions, low blood sugar level, dizzy vision, etc... yet i never deliberately controlled my diet, nor did i use any drugs. i ran a lot, and ate relatively less(as i'm now studying overseas and have to eat unbearable boarding food...).

Avatar n tn I have struggled with anorexia for a long time and am currently in recovery. Your internist isn't trying to blow you off by giving you the answers she did. And don't feel alone - very few people recovering from eating disorders take pleasure from the process. While TV and articles can make it sound like an idyllic and nurturing process, it often feels like jumping off a cliff. Doing the right things feels incredibly wrong because of how you've conditioned yourself to think.
Avatar f tn I battled with depression and anxiety along side it and would just put my insecurities down to that, but that has very much improved but my views on my body have stayed very much the same. Everyone at home has commented on how my weight I have lost but I still see my body as fat and ugly. I have never told anyone about it as I feel they won’t take me seriously as I am technically underweight now and I don’t don’t want to worry my parents with it.
Avatar m tn When you have been with someone for a while sometimes things in the bedroom get monotonous and can cause disinterest. Doesn't mean you don't love or want to be with your partner sexually, just that you want something new and exciting in bed! Try different positions or role play. Experiment with toys or sex games. If you are just all together burned out there may be an underlying cause. Do you feel pressure to have sex? Do you feel less strongly about your partner?
Avatar f tn Physical cure is good, but it is the psychological element which needs the most work and maintenance once your body is out of the danger zone. Be well.
Avatar n tn My 21 year old daughter is anorexic and in denial. I am trying deparately to reach out to her, to no avail. Her feet are swelled everyday. She eats a good breakfast and a salad for dinner. She has lost 30 lbs and wants me to stop her from eating. She tries to feed me all the time and has every symptom of anorexia. Please tell me how I can approach the situation. She is moody and doesn't want to be around anyone - very unlike what she was a year ago. Thank you.
918035 tn?1274644533 You have many symptoms of anorexia. Anorexia is not about the food, it's about underlying issues that causes a person to go away from food. I will advise you to speak to an adult. Hopefully, you could talk to your mom or dad. You need to get some professional help and support. You need to see a medical doctor just to check on your overall medical condition and growth.
20893793 tn?1580909977 They are obviously part of the package that created the anorexia, or at least they clearly have no idea of how to help, and though kids shouldn't have to put up shields against their parents, your dynamic with them in relation to that specific kind of comment is not positive. If you have access to a therapist, talk to him or her about what your parents say and how it affects you.
