Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram mri scans

angiogram

Avatar f tn So far I have seen several Nuerologists and two Opthamologists. Hospitalized 2x and at the ER 2x. I have had multiple MRI, MRA, CT Scans, Eye tests, and they still dont know what is causing the symptoms. I have unequal pupils that dont react to light. Dizziness, Headache, nausea, off balance, confusion, forgetfullness, extremely tired and weak. I now have pnuemonia, elevated heart rate, and an infection where they had one of the IV's.
Avatar m tn i have been told i suffered from bleeding in the brain ,the bleeding has stopped ,my doctor has given me almost no info about this,it showed up on a ct for headaches i had 5 ct scans and an mri ,an eeg and ultrasound , all i have been told is that the bleeding stopped on its own ,and some things we can control ,some we can't does this sound reasonable ? i have no symptoms of stroke ,and was told the headaches were not caused by the bleeding.
Avatar m tn i know this might be the right forum for my question, but i know many in here have implants that requier ongoing ct scans. Is 4 ct scans to many? i agree this ct angiogram is needed because my symptoms are not tolerable anymore. ill be paying for this ct angiogrm out of pocket because my health imsurance wont cover, and also i had a heated argument with the cardiologist from my inssurance. is 4 ct scans excesive?
Avatar m tn That is why the medical community discourages the use of whole body MRI scans and such in asymptomatic people. You are now left in a quandary. I would not advise a coronary CT scan if you are asymptomatic, as your chance of having a significant coronary lesion is extremely low given your female gender and age. This is unless you have other circumstances. A cardiac CT exposes you to a radiation dose and is best avoided unless medically indicated.
Avatar m tn What type of arthritis are we talking about here. I have ReA and AS and have had both x-ray and MRI, the MRI was for my spine and sac joints to help determine the AS ( Ankoylosing Spondylitis). That is why I am asking what type of arthritis you are referring to, sometimes x-rays are all you need. Get back to me and I will be better able to answer your question. I look forward to hearing from you.
Avatar m tn Hi my sister is having severe head pain she describe as a pressure like her head is going to explode , she is curently at the hospital for 2 weeks .cant be without pain meds in IV. did MRI, CT,MRA,all with and without contras, even a angiogram all came back normal.her leftside seems as if she had a mini stroke. week arms week legs at one time swollen .
906759 tn?1275957620 I have had 2 ct scans for different things in the past two months. Coronary calcium screening and a ct of pelvis and abdomen. I am 32 year old male. My doc wants me to have a CT angiogram now. Is this too much radiation exposure in too short of a period? Read my other posts if you need more info. It is a very long post so i really didnt want to retype it. Thanks.
Avatar f tn i have read that a CT scans radiation is equivalent to 500 X-Rays. It would be much better to have an MRI instead but insurance companies insist on a CT first then follow-up with MRI.
Avatar f tn t it show on my MRI? Are there any more accurate tests than an MRI? Are there any less subjective tests than a neuro-psych eval? I am a teacher and I am back at work with support but last year before my diagnosis the symptoms nearly got me fired. Photo is pre-surgery.
Avatar n tn A calcium score can help RISK stratify you for major cardiac events over the long term, but it DOES not tell you specifics about the extent of your current blockages. A CT angiogram or a cath angiogram can do that--cath is still the gold standard. Recommendations for asymptomatic individuals based on their coronary calcium sore can be summarized as follows. Calcium scores of 0 identify individuals in the "lowest-risk" group with 10 year risk for cardiac events less than 5%.
Avatar m tn I had a second opinion report that asked to exclude lacunar stroke and suggested MRA scan and MRI scans with contrast. I saw a neurosurgeon who identified the mrs finding as a porencephalic cyst probably due to trauma. i then received a report from a neurologist who said it was a virchow robin space. the size of the lesion is 1.2 x 1.3 cm which is large for a virchow robin space. it is situated near the basal ganglia on the right side.
Avatar m tn The pain that I am in was caused by an Angiogram, the pills do not touch the pain. Is this what's supposed to happen when you ask for a health checkup?
469349 tn?1217606941 After complaining of pulsatile tinnitus, extreme headaches, blurred vission, red eye...I had MRA..MRI with and w/out contrast...carotid ultrasound...ct scans ... and an angiogram that led to 8 coils embolization to left jugular vein on April 23rd. The headaches remained and stronger than ever...the eye redness and vission gotten worst day by day and having blackout episodes I went to the ophtalmologyst were they found papilledema and diagnosed me with Pseudotumor cerebri...
Avatar n tn I, too, have been told I have an aneurysm, but just had a CT angiogram to determine more specifically what is going on with it, and what the treatment will be. The neurosurgeon said it may just be able to be monitored, but I guess the other alternative is some sort of surgery. Yikes... Did you get anymore info yet?
Avatar f tn He has had CAT scans and MRI's of his form his chest to his abdominal area and is having and MRI of his head tomorrow. He had a renal angiogram and it also didn't reveal anything. I have tried to figure out what mimics pheochromocytoma however I am drawing blanks. His symptoms have been going on for over 5 years and potentially longer however his blood pressure was taken rarely so it was diagnosed as asthma until we started to put the symptoms together.
Avatar f tn The site provides a definition of cat scan calcium score and cat scan angiogram. I had a CC score and angiogram a couple of years ago. I believe the state-of-art for CAT has scans of 256 slices....provides more detail and sharper images. I find the Mayo Clinic, Minn or Cleveland Clinic to be a good source for medical procedures, tests, dx, prognosis, etc.
Avatar f tn They did 2 CT scans, an MRI and also a cerebral angiogram and told us they were all normal. We were told that the most logical explanation was a bad tap. Just didn't know if the blood would stay in the fluid that long. Thanks for your input though.
Avatar n tn A nuclear stress test is about 85% accurate in finding CAD whereas a angiogram is 100% accurate. The angiogram also carries a 1 - 3% risk of complications, the most common risk, although very rare, is having an artery dissected during the procedure which results in emergency bypass surgery. Having said that, if I was told I needed one I would do it without hesitation. It is the gold standard of heart tests to determine if CAD is present.
Avatar n tn hye i am Mohan 28 years old ,i had undergone MRI scan as directed by doctor which says "T2 and FLAIR hyperintensities seen in bilateral fronto parietal white matter more prominent on the left side.Mass effect noted effacing the adjacent cortical sulci.
Avatar f tn surgeon diagnosed a 70% blockage at the main branch of my left anterior descending artery. Upon followup, my cardiologist read the same xray and diagnosed 50% blockage. Second angiogram (2 years later): the surgeon diagnosed 30% blockage in the same area. Third angiogram: surgeon reported that there was no arterial blockage. I have just been discharged from a cardiac unit after 24 hours of observation due to chest pain. I did not have an angiogram.
Avatar m tn I did look at the images from both scans and the angiogram shows everything in real time, actually working. You see the blood flowing, you see the heart pumping and you see the reactions of the arteries. With the ct angio all I saw was a set of still pictures. The other thing to consider is that they may spot a blockage. You would then have to go through an angioplasty anyway, meaning even more radiation.
Avatar m tn I saw a new cardiologist at a different hospital and he thinks I should have a CT Angiogram.. A CT Angiogram is a none invasive procedure, it takes 3d pictures of the heart using a ct scane 64 slice method. The scane can pic up blocked blood flow and narrow blood vessels.. But I would like to know witch one of the two is more reliable test.. Considering I had a negative nuclear stress test.. Will the ct angiogram be a more persised test at pinpointing and finding a possible problem..
Avatar f tn Were the chest scans all CT scans or just conventional chest x-rays? If they were CT scans were they all with or without contrast dye or both? You say you had several ct scans...can you give the exact number of scans? Can you also give the time frame in months over which you had the scans? Finally, if I may ask, could you say why you were having these tests? With this info you can calculate the radiation dosage that you were exposed to and have a better idea of what risk you incurred.
Avatar m tn What kind of biopsy? What about an angiogram? Would that be a regular angiogram or would the dr. have to go in the small artery or vessel and how would they know what vessel or artery to go in thru since it's a small artery or vessels.
Avatar m tn I went to the Casey Eye Institute right away (because I do have actual eye problems, including non-age-related macular problems.) However, they did every conceivable kind of exam, including a dye-enhanced angiogram, and then said that the pre-existing problems I already had were basically stable and just did not explain what I was now seeing at all.
1213000 tn?1280463161 On May 19, after a MRI stress test was abnormal and an angiogram showed diffuse restonosis of the LAD stents, I underwent CABG (4X). 10 weeks later, another abnormal MRI stress test and on 30 July another angiogram. the results of thst angiogram was, all stents are now closed, all grafts are open but there is flow irregularities that may be caused by size mismatch between the vein grafts and the native arteries. This is being treated with Metprolol 25 mg and Diltiazem 120.
