My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.
Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me.
You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
This looks like "official" matter. What meds are in question?

IBS is not a disease at all, and there's no drugs for IBS, as I know (my opinion). Zelnorm was even withdrawn from the (U.S.) market last year, now it might be back again.
I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction.Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.
3 (range 80-96). As of this afternooon, the NP had not read my blood test results. I am concerned as I am a female bodybuiler and I take supplements- I take double doses of B6, B12, Women's multivitamin, Glucosamine w/MSM, and fish oil. I also take glutamine and arginine pre-workout.
I have tried everything from high fiber diet, miralax, enemas, and I have been on Amitiza and Sentakot for three days and to no avail.

But, (yeah, another but), I did learn some things; I have no rectal sensation; Bisacodyl suppositories produce no results, even after the two Bisacdoyl tablets the night before. I have very light intestinal muscle contractions.
Another thing, I discovered, is that stool slips from the rectum into the anal canal, and I do not feel it, and the outer muscle at the anal canal does not relax and allow evacuation.
So, when I went back to my D.O.
It started without any warning and continues. Sitz marker abnormal as all markers were still present; no obstructions seen. Given amitiza; works well enough, but have heard others have much better success with it. Twice during the night I have had loss of bowel and bladder control and did not know it until I awoke the next morning. MRI's of lumbar and thoracic read as nothing of note. Where do I go from here? I want a diagnosis, not a bunch of pills thrown at me and a shoulder shrug.
Freeway, was manometry done when the ERCP was done? There doesn't have to be a stricture, but I'm wondering if what the radiologist saw could have been a spasm. And spasms don't always show up during an ERCP. Did the radiologist 'film' a 'closure' within the common bile duct? If so, that might account for the pain.
I am on milk of magnesia, amitiza, and dulcolax and my doctor wants me to try to get off the milk of magnesia. You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
As for the constipation, try taking one capful (the little cup thing that comes with the bottle) of milk of magnesia every day. Talk to your GP about Amitiza, you might be a good canidate for that, as well. Not every constipation problem needs fiber as most people (and some doctors believe)-I did that for years and my problem continued. I laid off the fiber as directed by my gastroenterologist, took the Amitiza & m of m each night and my troubles were over.
Long and twisted colon that tends to slow passage of stool and cause constipation that can be quite severe. I take Miralax and Amitiza for mine. They work, but are expensive - especially the latter.
I have done the doxycycline and a few other therepies that my gastrointerologist recommended. They would work for a while and then would get worse agan. I am now taking Amitiza and am doing pretty good with it. Though I have now started noticing a correlation to my menstral cycle and the onset of these symptoms. A week before i start my period I will stop haveing BMs. Completely. I won't go again until I start. And then I usually have to induce it somehow.
Had breast reconstruction over 10 years ago - TRAM flap with abdominal muscle. Digestion issues worsen every year. Physician prescribed Amitiza last year but now have to meet new-year deductible before I can benefit from manufacturer coupon. Symptoms now include increased, painful bloating, no burps, no flatulence and no bowel movement after about 5 days drinking only water. Usually fruit or juice will help but nothing is helping or happening. Suggestions welcome and encouraged.
I have these bloated, distention, nausea, constipation (sometimes) for about 20 years. Colonoscopy and gastroenteroscopyn always show clear and fine. I was prescribed Amitiza 8 mg 2 years ago. There was a point that I felt ok for 3 months in a row recently. But unfortunately, it came back again. It really bothers my daily life and work. What should I do?
