Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.

My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?

My doctor just started me on Amitiza last week following a colonoscopy that was fine. I also have had 2 CT scans; one without contrast and the other with contIrast and nothing showed up there. I had and still have a pain in my right lower abdomen. This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach.

Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.

Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.

My dr. told me to take unisom tablets for insomnia & it has worked like a charm for me. I bought walmart brand called equate nighttime sleep aid. Give it a try & youll be asleep in no time. Dont get the gelcaps, they have a diff ingredient..

Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.

Im 11 wks & the same problem until my dr. told me to take unisom. It works great for me. I bought walmart brand called nighttime sleep aid, the main ingredient is doxylamine succinate, 25 mg, do not get gelcaps they have diff ing. & dont work, only tablets! They dont make you drowsy in the morning either! Give it a try!

I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.

I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...

Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...

I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction.Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.

To be effective, omega oil supplements usually have to be taken in distilled form (meaning gelcaps, not flaxseed). They are absorbed better if taken with a fatty meal.

I forgot to add that my main two symptoms are ear ringing, and im exhausted. My TT was done because the hashi's caused me great pain in the trachea area and radiated to my ears. The biopsy just showed hashi's but the thyroid itself was dark brown and in some areas black.

What about eavening primesore oil gelcaps. Does it work???

Yeah headache will usually follow unfortunately. Tylenol Rapid Release gelcaps are my best friend for headaches. As for pain under your belly its likely ligament pains. I have those A LOT and used to wear a maternity belt (which now hurts more than helps).

They are slippery capsules, not the big horse tablets like some other brands. The big green gelcaps from my favorite warehouse store didn't work at all for me. Our bodies are ineffecient at absorbing Mag, so I take one with each meal. Magnesium oil rubbed sparingly on the skin is good (Niko's recommendation) and Epsom salt baths are good, too.

I am on milk of magnesia, amitiza, and dulcolax and my doctor wants me to try to get off the milk of magnesia. You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?

As for the constipation, try taking one capful (the little cup thing that comes with the bottle) of milk of magnesia every day. Talk to your GP about Amitiza, you might be a good canidate for that, as well. Not every constipation problem needs fiber as most people (and some doctors believe)-I did that for years and my problem continued. I laid off the fiber as directed by my gastroenterologist, took the Amitiza & m of m each night and my troubles were over.

Long and twisted colon that tends to slow passage of stool and cause constipation that can be quite severe. I take Miralax and Amitiza for mine. They work, but are expensive - especially the latter.

Any drug store really! You can take the gelcaps orally and also insert vaginally. Just pop the gelcap w a safety pin. I put 2-3 in at night.

Thanks and yes...I've had all the tests you mentioned above done. The only ones that showed anything was the CT scan showed a small kidney stone and the gastric emptying scan showed moderate to severe gastroparentsis. I need to work on the multiple smaller meals...I typically try to keep semi-healthy snacks at work and just eat dinner. I do try to eat low-fat...maybe I'm eating fiborous things and don't realize it. We tried amitiza and it did nothing...

Hi ,I had my Vitamin D levels checked by Quest Lab in november 2008, my level came up 4 and ,my dr prescribed 50,000 mg vit d once a week for 12 weeks ...on the bottle it says vit d 1.25 gelcaps on side effect paper it says dristol D3 maximum i'm confused called cvs pharmacy but always busy i read side effects can get fast pounding heart'i get palpitations and am scared take it yet...
