946915 tn?1271941032 Hi....I was recently diagnosised with Gastroparesis and IBS w/const. I underwent a procedure where they injected Botox into the base of my stomach. This seems to have helped some but I'm still suffering with the bloating and const. even though I take a Colace twice a day. Just thought I would see if there are others out there with this and what else I can try. Thanks...
Avatar f tn i've had ideopathic gastroparesis for a year now and have been unable to find any help on what i should or should not eat to prevent or minimize symptoms. one suggestion was a low-fiber diet but the dietician i was referred to was completely unable to tell me exactly what that was. another suggestion was o soft diet. does that mean just eat anything and grind it up like babyfood or is it foods that become soft or are soft naturally such as jello & ice cream?
Avatar f tn There does not seem to be much available for my gastroparesis, since Reglan made me sick, Amitiza is not covered by my insurance, and I have no idea if Novardis will accept me to go on Zelnorm. All this and I am only 22 and my 19 year old brother also has gastroparesis. What do you do to deal with gastroparesis and its effects? Any recommendations?
Avatar n tn When will more medications be available for those of us with Gastroparesis? There is only one available in the U.S. that is Reglan which has all sorts of side effects. I cannot take this medication because of those side effects so purchase Domperidone through a Canadian drug company. Since I do this, insurance does not cover it. Also, I am very frustrated with the medical profession's lack of awareness regarding this disease.
Avatar n tn A recent bout of gastroparesis return required a repeat of hospitalizations, dehydration, renal failure etc. I restarted my domperidone after reglan nor erythromycin worked. I also took amitiza aftyer zelnorm went off market. Supposedly I went into CHF due to tyhe Domperidone & a cardiac issue, ICU , adrenal glands shut down, kidneys didn't work. This was miserable I ended up on massive steroids weight gain blah, blah , blah.
Avatar f tn I have gone through every test which found gastroparesis, lactose intolerance, acid reflux, and a gastrointestinal motility disorder. One test you can still try is a sits-marker test which will show how long it takes stuff to get through your entire system. What medications are you on for the constipation? Another thing you can try that helped me is to cut out all gas producing foods like beans, carbonation, and caffeine. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
Avatar f tn My gastroenterologist came up with nothing Murilax and Amitiza. Not very effective. After doing research on my own, I discovered digestive enzymes. I've purchased some from Enzymedica that have helped tremendously, but not totally--because I don't know enough about my needs. I just discovered through research that there is a LIPASE TEST This test is done to check the pancreas for disease, most often acute pancreatitis.
Avatar n tn I am supposed to be on liquid diet (I am not) and have gastroparesis and have gained 40 pounds in past two years. I have hypothyroidism for 33 years and empty sella syndrome. Because my TSH is always messed up docs keeping reducing levothyroxine dramatically, 2 years ago I was in a coma due to hypothyroidism and UTI which went to brain. I started using treadmill to help lose weight and broke tibia due to osteoporosis.
512694 tn?1216161406 I also have gastroparesis but have only been on motility drugs for a couple of months. Placed on domperidone and was getting good results but had to have my gallbladder removed and had complications. All the pain meds and anesthesia sent the belly back out of wack. My doc believes in domperidone before anything drastic. Two other doctors said it would not work, but it actually did. The bloating was better and the full feeling was going away. Now back to square one.
Avatar m tn my emptying rate was at 50%. Officially the diagnosis was dyspepsia, unofficially the doctor said "basically you have gastroparesis, but if it doesn't get worse over the next year, then you might see improvement." Before anything, what tests have you had done? Gastric emptying exam? Manometry? Barium? HIDA/CCK? The thing about gastroparesis is that it's not a final diagnosis, at least it shouldn't be: it's usually a symptom of something else.
974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
605458 tn?1539228808 My doctor just started me on Amitiza last week following a colonoscopy that was fine. I also have had 2 CT scans; one without contrast and the other with contIrast and nothing showed up there. I had and still have a pain in my right lower abdomen. This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach.
Avatar n tn Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.
771025 tn?1286576152 I have what you are describing. It's called gastroparesis. The basic meaning is that your stomach is not processing food though your body. It causes extream bloating after a few bites of food. Untreated you will become unable to eat or have a bowel movement. It's a form of IBS. I was put on a liquid sweet caster oil, no good. An old friend said she had had it and to ask for Amitiza. It worked! no more bloating, lost 5lbs and regular trips to the bathroom.
1434905 tn?1283645103 Many people with POTS have gastroparesis. My son was prescribed erythrocin 3x a day for his gastroparesis and that seems to help. Your stomach might be emptying to slowly causing you to be full. And then the food that sits in your stomach starts to ferment, causing you to fell sick.
Avatar m tn Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
Avatar m tn Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
Avatar f tn Hello, Your symptoms are suggestive of early satiety (feeling of fullness even before completion of meals). Causes for such symptoms are gastritis, gastroparesis(delayed gastric emptying,a disorder in which the stomach takes too long to empty its contents),gastric outlet obstruction, heartburns due to acid reflux(GERD),irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, hyperthyroidism ,cushing’s disease and rarely GI especially stomach tumors. Try raising the head of your bed about four inches with blocks.
623083 tn?1295211081 My medications for my GI problems are are Prevacid, Amitiza, Neurontin, Domperidone, Docusate, Milk of Magnesia, and Culturelle. They all help somewhat but I still get constipated even though my stools are liquid (medication induced). I also still have bad problems from gastroparesis (motility disorder of the stomach) and I'm still working on getting that under control.
Avatar n tn I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
Avatar m tn Recently I was given a gastric emptying test and diagnosed with gastroparesis and given a low fiber diet. Can you have IBS and gastroparesis? What diet would help both?
