amitiza

974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
605458 tn?1539228808 I am talking, at work, not making it to the toilet diarrhea watery diarrhea. So they say stop taking the Myralax for a week even after I already said I tried that and I hadn't gone in 3 days. I am not about to wait until day 10 to call and tell them what I already know and am forced to wear urinary incontinence pads and secretly planting extra clothes and wipes in the bathrooms at work. :( A long time ago I was put on Amitiza but I can't remember why I quit taking it.
Avatar m tn Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
Avatar f tn I am on milk of magnesia, amitiza, and dulcolax and my doctor wants me to try to get off the milk of magnesia. You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
605458 tn?1539228808 My doctor just started me on Amitiza last week following a colonoscopy that was fine. I also have had 2 CT scans; one without contrast and the other with contIrast and nothing showed up there. I had and still have a pain in my right lower abdomen. This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach.
Avatar n tn Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.
Avatar m tn Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
Avatar n tn I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...
Avatar f tn I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction. Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.
293157 tn?1285873439 From memory yes though its constipation thats more closely connected to MS than actual true IBS. One of the problems is that IBS is too readily dx, if you have a history of constipation or diarrhea you'll end up with a dx of IBS. snip By Karen S. Kaufman, MS, CCN Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common gastrointestinal ailment that affects up to 20 percent of the population.
974371 tn?1424653129 They fit me in as I have been so sick and now problems with constipation. Doctor prescribed Amitiza fir constipation and am to start Gabopentin. Second day on Amitiza, no BM and bad nausea this morning. Did not start the Gabaoentin yet in case I had a reaction, would not be sure which one caused it. I have now lost 15+ pounds and don't seem to be able to eat much of anything.
Avatar f tn And as long as I do not take constipation meds I do not normally have diarrhea. I can feel intestines they are tight hard like knotted rope. Often bm will continur for 24 -36hr until bowel seems empty. Though I doubt it is because I eat regularly since I was just diagnosed with diabetes. Why does it take a sedative to have bowel movements?
Avatar m tn Then I went another 6 days without a bowel movement, so I saw an internal medicine doctor who prescribed Amitiza for 5 days, Miralax, and Citracel. I have been on these 3 mild laxatives for 5 days. During each of the past 3 days I have expelled 1 golf-ball sized stool daily.
Avatar m tn As for the constipation, try taking one capful (the little cup thing that comes with the bottle) of milk of magnesia every day. Talk to your GP about Amitiza, you might be a good canidate for that, as well. Not every constipation problem needs fiber as most people (and some doctors believe)-I did that for years and my problem continued. I laid off the fiber as directed by my gastroenterologist, took the Amitiza & m of m each night and my troubles were over.
Avatar f tn Long and twisted colon that tends to slow passage of stool and cause constipation that can be quite severe. I take Miralax and Amitiza for mine. They work, but are expensive - especially the latter.
Avatar f tn SYMPTOMS: early satiety, nausea, trapped gas, and bloating, constipation and diarrhea. A battery of tests were done, including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy (hiatal hernia) esophageal motility (muscle doesn't work well), stomach emptying. All normal. I've been hospitalized with pancreatitis twice in the last 2 years. I have type2 diabetes, I'm overweight. I am a 60 year old African American female. DIAGNOSIS: My gastroenterologist came up with nothing Murilax and Amitiza.
Avatar f tn After many visits, including a 2 CT scans, an MRI with contrast, x-rays, and an ultrasound, I was left with the explanation that it was simply constipation pains, and to take the prescription Amitiza, which I complied with until it stopped working. I then visited a different Doctor, who immediately after feeling my left side, said that she knew what was wrong: my Sigmoid colon was not completely emptying, despite my stool being liquid from the laxatives.
Avatar n tn The amitiza 8mcg barely does anything twice a day and when I took the amitiza 24mcg I go diarrhea with more pain and I past out. Now my doctor has placed me on Misoprostol and so far these past 2 weeks haven't gotten better. I felt better before I seen a doctor and now I can barely go out at all. I have been thru many tests, colonoscopy, endoscopy(which ulcers were found) but were never treated. Blood work and catscans. Did the gole bladder test and everything else came out normal.
Avatar f tn millions of times and he put me on a constipation relieving medication called Amitiza although I will often have diarrhea - against my will I tried it and found no results. I am giving up and starting to be depressed. This pain is just there in the pit of my stomach a constant ache that will not go away or subside, it is a severe ache nor sharp nor dull that is there 24 hours. My doctor had found nothing will stool sample testing, colonoscopy, numerous cat scans etc. and I'm desperate.
946915 tn?1271941032 Thanks and yes...I've had all the tests you mentioned above done. The only ones that showed anything was the CT scan showed a small kidney stone and the gastric emptying scan showed moderate to severe gastroparentsis. I need to work on the multiple smaller meals...I typically try to keep semi-healthy snacks at work and just eat dinner. I do try to eat low-fat...maybe I'm eating fiborous things and don't realize it. We tried amitiza and it did nothing...
Avatar n tn Had breast reconstruction over 10 years ago - TRAM flap with abdominal muscle. Digestion issues worsen every year. Physician prescribed Amitiza last year but now have to meet new-year deductible before I can benefit from manufacturer coupon. Symptoms now include increased, painful bloating, no burps, no flatulence and no bowel movement after about 5 days drinking only water. Usually fruit or juice will help but nothing is helping or happening. Suggestions welcome and encouraged.
Avatar f tn I also have IBS-like symptoms where i vacillate between constipation and diarrhea, although the constipation is much more prevalent. The bloating always begins after eating lunch and sometimes begins while I'm eating lunch. On the weekends, I usually end up sleeping so late that I only get 2 meals in, and my symptoms are barely ever present. I eat the same kinds of food for breakfast/dinner on the weekends that I do for breakfast/lunch/dinner on the weekdays, so I am totally confused.
