Common Questions and Answers about Ambien rem sleep

ambien

Avatar f tn t get back to sleep - so often I will take 3 mg of sublingual Melatonin. It puts me back to sleep, but I have vivid dreams, and it almost feels like I am even more exhausted when I wake up from them. Does melatonin give you all three stages of REM or is it mostly to help with the most superficial phase, the dream phase? I understand that melatonin is a hormone secreted at night, and how it is not a drug, but I am just wondering if there is a link between dreams and melatonin.
Avatar f tn I recently had a sleep study done and it showed no apnea, no REM and on average waking up 18 times an hour. I was but on Nuvigil 150mg and have been taking for 4 days but I don't want to take it anymore for several reasons. One it only lasts about 6 hrs and then I hit a wall. The second reason is I just feel creepy inside and my hrt rate on average is up 15-20 bpm. I just called the Doc to tell them about it and they are supposed to call back.
Avatar m tn Two and a half months ago, I randomly contracted insomnia. I'd never experienced it in my life before. It just spontaneously happened. I recently graduated from college, but I wasn't feeling any conscious stress or anything. Suddenly I got insomnia, and couldn't go to sleep for 3 nights in a row. So I'm assuming something biological happened? The only thing...
1299871 tn?1274701870 t the best medication to take for sleep either. It interferes with normal sleep cycles such as REM sleep. While you think you had a good night's sleep, you really didn't because your brain didn't get the full rest it needs. That alone can cause major depression or worsen it. It's time to talk to your doctor and make some changes to your medications.
6074055 tn?1378958419 Not sure how a sleep study will help. My experience there is the study measures how much REM sleep you get and if you are getting sufficient oxygen and have a reasonable heart rate.. maybe a few other things...but nothing that would explain why you are never tired.. unless it shows you are really sleeping 7 or 8 hours and just don't believe it. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I just had moderate riba sleep disturbance on TX, worse for the couple months after EOT. He really needs to sleep. He can try taking up to 200 mg of benedryl. Also there's Lunesta, which is comparable to Ambien. If he's doing Ambien, the Ambien CR is better for keeping you asleep; it's formulated to release throughout the night instead of wearing off a few hours later. Also look at the dose.
897400 tn?1303329148 Hi, welcome to the forums, your symptoms are suggestive of rapid eye movement (REM) related parasomnias involve the intrusion of the features of REM sleep into wakefulness (eg, sleep paralysis). It is a type of sleep disorder. Few of the individuals are known to suffer from parasomnias esp. when they are on non-benzodiazepine sedatives, drug abuse, sexual abuse etc. otherwise no definitive cause exists in few individuals apart from stress, positive past history of abuse etc.
1225178 tn?1318980604 Yes, I am taking Ambien CR, but I have been having to take some kind of sleep aid for years because I have narcolepsy which means the brain tries to go into REM sleep in the daytime, and can't go into REM sleep at night, so when you reach that stage, you wake up. Before tx, the only time I ever dreamed was when I'd take a nap in the daytime. I'm actually enjoying dreaming at night, but it is so strange... and I have to win this argument with my husband, you know.
Avatar f tn His medication was increased as well as Lorazepam. He takes Ambien CR to sleep. About 2 months ago, while in REM he stated acting his nightmares. He has pulled my hair, punched the back of my head, and kicked my leg. He has thrown the bedside lamp and punch the mattress. He abruptly wakes up after acting out, remembers what he had done but vaguely remembers his nightmare. I feel I am in danger. Could this possibly be happening because of his medication? Is this a sleeping disorder?
1067022 tn?1257773762 get enough sleep, reduce stress, exercise regularly and keep a regular sleep schedule.
558096 tn?1255887002 ve heard some not so funny stuff about ambien and rozerem and people walking, eating, and driving in their sleep. Please note that when using sleep aids your brain and body do not usually reach the REM stage that is needed for nightly healing and repair.
Avatar f tn for 6 weeks I refused any medicine and finally broke down after weeks of no REM sleep and sometimes No sleep at all. It consumed my life and rendered me unable to work. I am seeing glimpses of my old self and am feeling much better. Eating right and exercising as well. Not sure the time limit on this delightful experience. months years? I do hope I am doing the right thing.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to Ambien, since it is associated with parasomnic behaviors (a behavior that occurs during sleep) such as sleep walking or eating although I have never heard of it causing trembling, or you could have another underlying sleep disorder such as periodic limb movements or REM (dream sleep) behavior disorder. Either way, you should be evaluated by a sleep clinic or a physician that is trained in sleep medicine.
12594947 tn?1426138835 Also, alcohol has no therapeutic use in sleep medicine. In fact, sleep specialists recommend that people wish sleep disorders minimize their alcohol intake, and never drink before bedtime as that can cause a disordered type of sleep (even if it subjectively seems like it's "helping" you sleep).
Avatar m tn Eddie, 29 days off of HydroCodone here and I'm finally getting some real sleep. I used hydro off and on for 18 months, I was taking it on a steady basis for the last 3 months. My doctor has helped me along with the WDs from getting off it. He said Hydro doesn't allow REM sleep. So I didn't get the correct kind of sleep. And I'm assuming you might not have slept correctly for 35 days according to your post. From my experience you should get back to normal sleep soon, I hope!
Avatar f tn I quit that job and things did get a little better, but I could never get my normal sleep patterns back. I either cant go to sleep, cant fall into REM sleep or wake up early. To top this off, I am a very light sleeper and have to use earplugs and white noise in order to fall asleep. My doc gave me Seroquel and it works great, have been on it for about 7-8 years. I do not take it every night because of the weight gain. I also take over the counter stuff when I dont take my seroquel.
1845824 tn?1333374427 You're withdrawing from the opiates. Your brain chemistry is all whacky. It wants the opiates back, and it's letting you know. I would get OFF the klonopin ASAP. I took valium for the first 2 days off opiates and it didn't help with anxiety much, not at all with sleep. You just have to accept that you're not going to sleep for a while. Ambien as another addictive med. Try some herbal stuff. Kava tea is great. Valarian is good. You will sleep when your body need it. Take care.
653169 tn?1303446369 I have generalized anxiety and Insomnia that are usually well controlled, but lately are not. I have not slept hardly at all for 3 days. I've gotten 1-2 total hours on average a night with no REM sleep. My anxiety is terrible, and the longer I don't get adequate sleep the worse its getting. I take ambien and klonopin 1mg twice daily. Has anyone got any suggestions? I would appreciate anyone's comments or further questions.
Avatar f tn all of the withdrawals are gone but I cant sleep, I might be getting 1 hour in per night mixed in with some rem, but thats about it, & its so agrivating! My mind keeps going & going & I dont know how much more I can take, also can a person get sick from this? Im starting to worry that I may colapse somewhere from sleep deprivation.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CFIDS in 1994. Narcolepsy in 2005. I get basically no stage 4 or Rem sleep at night. Its no wonder why our mind and muscles can't heal themselves. I can go into almost instant dreaming during day (MSLT naps). I haven't been able to get anyone to help me figure out how to correct my sleep cycle. If you get any ideas, let me know. (I am on meds to help sleep and keep me awake at the right times, but it hasn't helped the sleep cycles.
612551 tn?1450022175 During sleep, the body cycles between non-REM and REM sleep. Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. A lot of studies are going on to study the importance of REM sleep, which is the dream phase of sleep. Psychologists generally agree that achieving the dream state of sleep is a critical element for maintaining good mental health.
Avatar m tn However, and this is the caveat that I think is most significant in your case, REM sleep does have an important function. During REM sleep, we dream, and during this time we are "consolidating" memories and things we learned during the day.
Avatar m tn I haven’t been able to sleep deeply for years. I had a sleep test last year, and according to the test results, I do not have sleep apnea but recorded very little third stage of sleep and no REM sleep at all. I’ve been prescribed various sleep aids, but they didn't do anything. Doctors I’ve seen here put me through many tests to help me, but nothing came up. I’ve lived this way for many years, and I’m always tired. My memory is being affected also. I’d appreciate any help I can get.

867808 tn?1239482070 I am glad to know that more people are feeling the same way as me! I just wish that there was an easy answer to this like other medical problems, but this one is a real mystery right now. You mentioned that you never went into REM sleep, and I may be wrong but it sounds to me like sleep deprivation/sleep insomnia.
