Avatar n tn His sleep doctor prescribed this for sleep apnea. Is this really safe? He is supposed to use his CPAP machine along with the meds., but he has not used the machine in months. Is this really good, safe intelligent treatment for sleep apnea?
1282280 tn?1285086420 i was diagnosed with sleep insomnia, ptsd, panic disorder, and major depresive disorder a little over a yr. ago. at first, the dr's just had me on a low dose of zoloft to see if it would help. tho it did help with the depression and a little with the anxiety, i still couldn't sleep. after raising the dose of my zoloft a few more times, and trying seroquil, the dr's finally put me on ambien when i couldn't sleep.
Avatar n tn I have tried Sleep Fast, Sleep MD, Benadryl, Melatonin, Sleep Apnea Relief, Sleepytime teas, humidifiers, relaxing music, hot baths before bed, going to bed the same time every night, no tv in my room, darkened room, comfortable pillows and just about everything else I can think of. I don't know what else to do. I go to sleep right away but then in the middle of the night, I wake up fully alert and can't go back to sleep.
Avatar f tn the cpap machine can really help if you have sleep apnea, I read that apnea is associated with chiari
1690584 tn?1340297472 did you have a sleep study for apnea or narcolepsy
Avatar f tn Has tried ambien, then ambien with tylenol pm (for the benadryl), then ambien with just benadryl, then trazadone 50mg, and now temazepam 15mg. Nothing works. He falls a sleep for an hour or so, and that's it. He's an absolute wreck. Have any of you had severe sleeping problems? Anything work?? It's hard enough dealing with tx, but add no sleep, and it's just impossible... Thanks for any suggestions you can give.
Avatar n tn I have done the sleep hygeine route, and have been tested for sleep apnea, tried several herbal sleep remedies, just about everything on the market, as well as ambien, ambien cr, and trazedone, all with little to no success. does anyone have any suggestion that may help me finally get some sleep??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
1067022 tn?1257773762 Guess what, I couldnt sleep! How can anyone sleep with all those wires and a camera pointed at you! What a joke. Sleep studys only work for major apnea patients. Further studying is needed to help folks that just dont sleep, period. Feel free to PM me on anything you learn, I am trying to get to the bottom of this too. I truly feel that some people are made to sleep in 3 hour intravels.
956292 tn?1334054869 A sleep study showed he had bad sleep apnea and a c-pap machine resolved his sleepiness. But the fatigue I had with Lyme was different. It was a crummy feeling of little energy and less motivation, like I was coming down with the flu, but then never did. Small doses of Ambien helped me sleep more, which reduced my severe fatigue, but not much. A sleep study could be really helpful if it shows something treatable. I didn't have one, but my neuro prescribed provigil for me anyway.
962206 tn?1257303017 I just finished two and am now on C-pap and sleep like a baby. Not only did I have sleep apnea but restless leg syndrone when I did fall asleep from exhaustion. I read a booklet about insomnia and it said: Never use your bed for anything except sleep LOL-think about that. Make sure your bedroom is pitch dark and find a soothing back ground noise-not music or television.
Avatar n tn he did recommend a sleep study after a month of therapy. he also said i might have sleep apnea, but not obstructive sleep apnea...the other kind which effects your nervous system and ur not breathing enough. He recommended breathing techniques. I also notice right when i start to fall asleep i wake up suddenly freaking out. Ambien is the only thing that calms me down, but i feel weak all day though. Some days r better than others.
Avatar n tn Until you have a real sleep study, you won't know if you have sleep apnea or not. You could wake many many times during the night and not be aware of it. If you think you might have sleep apnea, you are not bothering your doctor to request a sleep study. You owe it to yourself and your family to take care of yourself. Plus maybe you have reflux and not sleep apnea, but a sleep study is the only way to know for sure.
Avatar m tn My concern would be taking any sleep med without knowing why your sleep is problematic. For instance, if you would happen to have sleep apnea, sleep medications can not only camouflage it, but also worsen it. You've got the entire rest of your life to need good sleep. Becoming dependent on any med that warns to use only short term is a recipe for trouble. Besides dependence, many meds become less effective over time.
Avatar f tn While you were taking it, you did not cure your insomnia, which is the reason you needed to take it to begin with, so now that you stopped taking the Ambien, you are having the problem again. There has to be a reason for your sleeping disorder i.e. anxiety, depression, sleep apnea, stress, use of stimulant intake late in the day (caffeine) or lack of intellectual stimulation during the day. There are multiple medical, psychological, dietary and pharmaceutical reasons for poor sleep.
Avatar m tn I have undergone a sleep study, that's my only qualification to comment, that and a long life's experience... and old guy. I read you do not suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea.. look right and while I don't recall the % time in REM needed to be rested in the morning, you must have been given the number. In my case I was told I was marginally well rested relative to test results, but do suffer from mild sleep apnea.
Avatar m tn Sleep. I think about it all day long, and at night I think about everything but sleep. It's great that you are having a sleep study - to check for sleep apnea? In her response to your post above, Selma mentioned antihistamines before bed. Those are also working for me. Are you able to rest at all during he daytime? Do you catch up on weekends?i I listen to a lot of ocean wave sounds to wind myself down. You can search for any sound that you think is soothing on youtube.
679466 tn?1247006054 org) and talking to your sleep doctor about it. Dental devices may be another option. The problem with many people with mild sleep apnea is that since your nervous system is so hypersensitive, you won't like anything on your face or in your face. Patients with severe sleep apnea have diminished nervous systems, so that's why they don't wake up from apneas very quickly.
Avatar dr m tn Could this be a form of RLS? Should we do another sleep study? Would an Ambien mask such a symptom for the study (she did not sleep much during the study). Any other thoughts? Thank you Dr. Parks. You are so helpful in this important area of medicine.
1580703 tn?1651904887 how do you even get central apnea? there seems to be a problem with my CO2 levels and the sleep-wake transitions that make it impossible for me to sleep without the asv and oxygen I'm on a PSmax setting of 9 Epap6 so my pressure goes up to 15?

Avatar f tn The questions are so much easier than the answers. My husband and I both have sleep apnea. His is very bad and mine is not so bad since it is obstructive sleep apnea but I had no idea I had it till a couple of years ago. The poster above referred to reading the Bible and that reminded me how very much we do "see through a glass darkly". We tend only to recognize our symptoms and that's normal.
