Common Questions and Answers about Allergies and asthma

allergies

Avatar m tn I have had asthma since childhood but I have always been very athletic and able bodied as my asthma was always well managed with the use of my rescue inhaler. Then I had back surgery in 2001.The doctors used titanium screws as part of the procedure for my spinal fusion. Since then my asthma has changed drastically for the worse.I can no longer do many of the physical things I used to enjoy.I cant tolerate any type of perfumes.I had to stop camping because I cant tolerate wood smoke.
Avatar f tn I am pregnant and have bad allergies and asthma. I tried to go the first couple of weeks without any meds... in spring.... couldn't do it! I was miserable. Benadryl is always ok, and my doctor said ok to taking Singulair (that is what I took prior to conceiving) I use my inhaler as needed (once a week maybe) What did you take for allergies and asthma prior to being pregnant? Good luck.
Avatar f tn I'm wondering too if milk/nut allergies could be making my asthma worse. I have chest tightness that was helped by singulair, like late in the day and I was on symbicort alone but it wasn't enough at 4 puffs/day. what are your FEV1/FVC scores?
Avatar n tn If the asthma persists despite good control of the reflux, the avoidance of cats and dogs and good asthma therapy, you might then want to inquire about skin tests. In the meantime, don't forget that allergens and irritants in the workplace can also be a "cause" of asthma. Good luck.
231441 tn?1333892766 I have severe sinus allergies and asthma. I am 16 weeks prego and my allergist changed my inhaler and nasal spray so I can continue taking them during my pregnancy. I confirmed these meds as being safe with my OB. Pulmicort for the asthma and rhinocort for the nasal spray. My OB also suggested Sudafed and Benadryl is on the safe list. I only use them when I absolutely feel it's necessary but it's nice to know I do have some relief options.
Avatar n tn I generally take Flonase. About a week ago the allergies and sinuses really got a hold of me and i had horrible sinus pressure, felt really spacey, had ear fullness and pain, felt a little off but no ear infection. I got put on a antibiotic. I then just started the Flonase back up. One day i felt short of breath off and on. I also took a Zyrtec. I almost went to the hospital because i felt bad and felt like my allergies/ sinuses were causing it. I also have anxiety.
Avatar n tn But this could also be something else, and if it is asthma / allergies and is as severe as you describe it needs to be properly treated. Please go back to your doctor and makee sure they test and work out what's going on and get some proper treatment.
1407713 tn?1290933275 I have allergies to dust, pet dander, mold, and a bunch of other things. Right now I am suffering at night I either have a cold or I am having an allergy attack. I am seeing a pulmonary doc but, I am between apointments and I have no idea what to do about the symptoms I am having. I have a runny nose and sinus pressure. I am nervous because last time I had these symptoms I ended up in the ER with an asthma attack. This time I would like to try and prevent this from happening.
Avatar f tn i guess really it depends on the severity of it, to me it feels like someone squeezing my lungs and sitting on my chest making it harder and harder to breath until I take my inhaler then there is a lot of coughing like raspy kinda with a good amount of wheezing it's HORRIBLE
Avatar f tn He should also have pulmonary function tests to establish (or not) the diagnosis of asthma. There is a form of asthma called cough-variant asthma in which the main symptom is cough rather than wheeze.
172826 tn?1423422956 Are you kiding me. By your standard a child is not entitled to an equal chance to socialize. If we dont make allowences children die or loose out on an education. Is not hard to ban a fue items from school yes it may not seem fair and it may frustating to some parents who kids love certain foods but in the end every one is intitled to be safe. Why do you think kids get imunised not ALL kids get sick but some things are just not worth the risk.
Avatar m tn My kids is constantly suffering from what I thought was colds but now I want to see if it is Allergies/Bronchitus/Asthma?
Avatar n tn I've had asthma since I was 10 yrs old, I'm now 27. I've played soccer since I was a kid and never had any serious issues. About 2 yrs ago I had a real bad cold/sinus infection and ended up in the ER because of my asthma. Ever since then, I have not been able to get my asthma under control. I've been prescribed almost everything you can think of, steroids, albuterol, xopenex (inhaler and inhalation solution), budesonide, mucinex and that's just for my asthma.
Avatar n tn i have had the same problems as you are describing. i had allergic asthma. as in my allergies triggered my asthma. are you taking allergy meds? this should help the most. if you are taking allergy meds and still experiance allergy symptoms than you should go see your doctor and tell him. there are alot of allergy meds out there and not all may work for you. aviod things that trigger your allergies the worst.
231441 tn?1333892766 Lately I have been having frequent violent sneezing (many times a day), with intermittent running nose and itchy face and trunk. The sneezing and running nose also wake me in the middle of the night, and I have to keep blowing my nose for a while before it settles and I can sleep again. I haven't yet been able to identify clear cause or food trigger (other than peanuts, which recently have started to clearly cause an itch and burning/flushing reaction).
Avatar n tn has anyone ever heard of a child/person's asthma/allergies acting up after spending time on the ice? not sure if it's the zamboni's gas or gas from the artificial ice. my son has played hockey for 8 winters.... not sure if it's that or the mold in the rink.
Avatar f tn Hello, Eczema is not always caused by allergies. Eczema is often caused by allergies to common natural inhalants and intolerance to some foods.Sometimes it is an overactive response by the body's immune system to a bacterium that normally lives on the skin or an irritant. However , eczema is commonly found in families with a history of other allergies or asthma. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.Kind regards.
Avatar f tn Basically, I had a bowl of soup (from a tin) and a couple of cheese sandwiches for dinner then sat and watch tv. Shortly after my asthma attack kicked in. I had only a smidging of my ventolin inhaler left which didn't really do anything. I think this time my attack got quite severe as I got quite bad chest pains as I struggled to breath. Eventually, it just started to clear and a couple of hours later I was fine. But, for the really bad chest and neck pains.
Avatar f tn [2] Mild allergies like hay fever are highly prevalent in the human population and cause symptoms such as allergic conjunctivitis, itchiness, and runny nose. Allergies can play a major role in conditions such as asthma. In some people, severe allergies to environmental or dietary allergens or to medication may result in life-threatening anaphylactic reactions and potentially death.
Avatar n tn t for the fact that I get bad asthma exacerbations, my doctor would still be questioning whether I have asthma or not. There are two things you can do, one try a trial period of asthma inhalers and see if they make a difference. Or two, try tracking your peak flow readings for two weeks (every morning and evening) and take the numbers to your doctor. Also you never mentioned if you've ever had a lung function test.
Avatar f tn Sleep with a humidifier on and the window closed ..
1101860 tn?1258542188 Chronic cough, such as your, may be due to smoking, allergies, certain medications ( beta blocker or ACE inhibitors), asthma, and even heartburn. It is important to know the underlying cause. Treatment will depend on this. At this point, decongestant and pain reliever may help provide symptoms. But it is important that you have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper diagnosis. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn I have allergies and asthma too. It is hard to find a solution to a problem without knowing what you are allergic to. I know what I am allergic to because I went to see an allergist a number of years ago and he gave me a skin test. Due to the fact I know what I am allergic to, I can try to avoid these things as much as possible. I think a skin test administered by an allergist could help you too.
