Aldara redness

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara redness

Avatar f tn When prescribed the Aldara, my doctor didn't make me concerned about this area as being anything unusual or not normal. A few days after using the Aldara, I began to form sores and redness in that area as well as on my genitals. A GYN said I had herpes and sent out a culture. I'm waiting for the results. However, she didn't want to discuss the possibility of the Aldara causing the reaction. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar m tn Hello, If the redness is caused by dermatitis due to Aldara, then it may return to normal gradually if there is discontinuation of the skin but if there is any fixed drug eruption due to this, then it may take longer or even may need specific treatment. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn dont use aldara. I think ACV even does better than aldara although some people here would disagree with my opinion. You can get mini surgery like electrocauterization, cryotherapy, or use podofin and its variants. These three, afaik, are better than anything else to treat warts.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me on Aldara, but I am having SERIOUS side effects. It says for me to put it on the area once a night before I go to bed, but I started having redness and irritation. I thought that just meant that it was working, so I was off it for a day and went back on it for 2. It happened again, so I went off it for 2 days. Then I went back on it and tried to stay on it, hoping that the cream would help somehow, and the sores just kept getting bigger.
Avatar n tn I am being treated with Aldara for HPV and I know that there is some redness and pain associated with the treatment, but I am having a very painful reaction. It is on the inner labia, not where I put the cream - however, I am sure some of the cream may have transfered there. It is red, was only slightly itchy early in the day, and by the afternoon it hurt very bad to the touch. It is almost like an open sore maybe, but it doesn't look like a sore, it just feels... raw???
Avatar m tn Hey everyone. I have posted on here before about my HPV. I was given aldara a couple months back and have been using it regularly since then. My question is how do I know when I can quit? I stopped for about a week when I went on vacation and forgot my packets and on the trip all my redness went away and things started looking better. When I got home and started using again it came right back. How di I know when I can quit? once the wart is gone... one the packets are all used? THanks!
Avatar m tn hey im a 20 yr old male. i used aldara for genital warts and it has only made my life worse. i used it for about a month and a half and been off it for about 2 weeks. anyways it did not diminish my warts AND MOST IMPORTANTLY my penis is STILL really red and with a burning sensation and sensitivity down the shaft and base (which is not even where i applied the drug!). I have tried vitamin E oil but have now stopped cuz idk if it helped or made it worse......
Avatar n tn Ive been on aldara (imiquimod) 5% for approximately 2 months now. I cant notice if im seeing any improvement with my genital warts. However, ive developed a ridiculous rash around the application site. which is extremely red and irritated. The rash looks almost like if i ran really fast and slid my knee on a rug, except its around the base of my penis. Its sometimes itchy and i feel as if at sometimes its developing a particular scab. will this redness ever go away?
Avatar n tn I have been using Aldara for 4 weeks now and have developed severe crusting, burning and redness. I am treating Actinic Keratitis and am very concerned with the progress. Should I continue and if I do, when could I expect a resolution of the problems. If I discontinue the cream, should I apply any topical antibiotics to speed up the healing.
Avatar n tn Hey, I've been using Aldara for about a little over a month, and within the last couple weeks I noticed some pronounced red areas. They seam to have gotten slightly larger. But there's been no cracking/blistering or really much irritation (maybe slight). I haven't experienced any of the other flu like symptoms or pain associated with HSV. Is this something I should be concerned with? What else should I take note of?
Avatar m tn My issue is that I'm NOT getting any redness, itchiness, etc. I am not expecting that the Aldara will work after three applications on the warts; I am concerned however that my complete lack of other symptoms i.e. redness, itchiness, blisters, etc. means that the drug is not working. I would like to see if anybody has used Aldara, not had any noticable negative side effects, and had it still be effective.
Avatar n tn Is Aldara use a good idea for someone with autoimmune disease (for possible facial pre-melanoma in area difficult to operate on)?
Avatar n tn I was just prescribed Aldara cream for my genital warts and have a couple of questions. 1) My doctor told me to apply the cream all over the shaft of my penis & around the scrotum area - in order to help treat sub-clinical warts. Everything from the instructions on the cream to my reading on the internet says "apply directly to the warts and avoid contact with skin around the warts" What is your advice?
Avatar n tn Hello Everyone: I have been taking Aldara cream for just over a month now to treat HPV genital warts. The cream worked successfully on the warts on my anus almost immediately. However, I have a number of other warts around my vagina (mostly on the outer lips) that have been less responsive to the cream. I know that you can use the cream for up to 16 weeks and I have only been using it for 5 weeks, but I'm really nervous about these other warts not going away.
Avatar n tn One another suggestion is to apply some moisturizer or petrolium jelly on the skin surrounding the warts while applying the aldara on warts... remember, aldara is to be applied on warts only and should not come in contact with the healthy skin...
Avatar f tn Redness Swelling A sore, blister, or ulcer Skin that becomes hard or thickened Skin peeling Scabbing and crusting Pain Tenderness Itching Burning Most of these skin reactions are mild to moderate and they disappear when treatment is completed. They may be signs that the product is working. If your skin reacts badly or the skin reaction becomes too uncomfortable when using Aldara cream, wash the cream off with mild soap and water and contact your doctor.
Avatar f tn Hello doc, I was diagnosed with genital warts and on Aldara cream for it. My wart went away quickly in about 2 weeks. Here’s my worry: I had mild skin irritation while I was on it, but a week after I had stopped the Aldara I developed a rash around my anus near where I had been using Aldara and I’m worried it’s herpes. It was a red rash. It itched, felt irritated, and the skin was shiny. I would compare it to mild sunburn. I never saw breaks in the skin: no blisters, ulcers, or scabs.
Avatar n tn I have been using Aldara for about 4 weeks with little skin reaction at all (not even redness). I have a two part question. 1. In your experience have you noticed Aldara be less effective depending on what part of the genital region it is applied? PI indicated 33% total clearance in males. I don't seem to be reacting to it at all. 2. Assuming I have either HPV 6 or 11 (due to the warts outbreak), I have read that the immune system will clear the infection over time.
Avatar n tn A few months later the warts came back and I revisited the clinic and they were frozen once again, but this time I was given 'Aldara' cream to apply three times a week on the warts. I have visited the GUM clinic around four or five times since and been given the freezing treatment followed by Aldara cream and although every time I had the full STI testing this was found to be the only virus I had (or had symptoms for).
Avatar n tn This is no question but rather a clarification. I have been using aldara for about a month and a half, and judgeing by the topics, several others need some guidence. I caught Molluscum contagium, maybe from the gym, maybe from sex who knows, who cares. I noticed some very small hybrid of pimples and warts in my gentital area. So of course, like most of you, I freaked. I am a healthy 21 year old male who has had a fairly modest sexual life (less than 10 partners, no one night stands).
Avatar n tn Vestibulitis probably isn't sexually acquired. But if the redness and soreness first appeared or got worse after you started Aldara, that might be the whole explanation. The timing--several months after your BF received oral sex--is too long to attribute your symptoms to that exposure, and in any case fellatio is unlikely to give him anything he would transmit to you and cause these symptoms.
Avatar f tn However, I had been using DMSO cream which significantly reduced the symptoms by the time I saw her. I was able to keep the itching and redness somewhat under control with the DMSO and other natural products I purchased. But it kept coming back. I fully expected to break out with herpes, but I never did. My blood tests for herpes, HIV, syphillis all came back negative, as did swabs for chylamidia and gonnnerea. Then I developed a couple of small bumps around the labial area.
Avatar n tn The problem here to me is not entirely the warts, but after ending the aldara treatment i am experiencing redness around the areas of treatment and also other areas. The redness looks to be spreading like spots differing in size. I have had protected sex twice in the last couple of months and i am worried about STD's. Could this be a primary herpes outbreak or is it normal for the skin to react this way after ending aldara treatment?
Avatar n tn 1) I have HPV and have been using aldara successfully whenever a new wart pops up. However, this week I had the worst reaction yet to the cream ( I think?!): Itching, burning, painful sores (which scab over in less than 1 day). This has persisted on one side of my body for 5 days now. I am worried that I have herpes. My right lypmh node is swollen as well in my genital area. The redness and swelling has subsided somewhat on the 5th day. Is this too short to be a herpes outbreak?
Avatar m tn hey im a 20 year old gay male who used aldara for some small gw for about a month. i quit becuase it was irritating my penis. i have a huge redish pink tinlgling burning blotch that appears to be getting better (after over 3 weeks!) but now another is starting to form i believe it is not incredibly flakey like some of the psoriasis pictures ive seen but it has been kinda dry..
Avatar m tn I have quit aldara because it has burnt the entire base of my penis even on places i did not apply it. its all very red and irritated. I used it for about 3 weeks. I put vitamin E on the healthy skin for awhile but it made it worse or something cuz its the main burned part. I have not put anything on in the past couple days but the burning and redness seems to be getting WORSE still.. i've decided to just leave it alone but its ugly and horrible and i dont know what to think or do... HELP?!
Avatar f tn I have genital HPV and I was treating the warts using Aldara. Applied a lot of the cream Monday to the outside of lower labia minora. Wednesday the labia was hard, swollen and really sore. Friday the swelling was reduced and in it place were 2 sore lesions located just inside the labia. I am now convinced it is herpes from looking at pictures online and reading the symptoms. I am also experiencing tingling down there too!
Avatar n tn The limits are there to be fair to all who use the site and to keep individuals from dominating it. On to your questions, briefly. The utility of imiquimod (Aldara) for molluscum is marginal. Instead of wasting time, I would suggest you just bite the bullet and get them frozen. All need to be frozen in order to cure you and then to reduce the likelihood of you infecting your GF, your concerns about oral sex, etc. Just go on and get it done.
Avatar m tn Hey everyone. I have posted on here before about my HPV. I was given aldara a couple months back and have been using it regularly since then. My question is how do I know when I can quit? Avatar n tn no herpes test was performed. As I applied the Aldara to the mild case of HPV, I became more concerened with the red on my balls. It is very elusive, sometimes more red than others, but always there. Just very mildly itchy, just that you know it is there, and it is different than my balls were before. Don't ask me if I am reading too much into this, but they just felt unhealthy, you know? Felt like they were fighting something off.
