Avatar m tn However, any condition causing even mild hyperkalemia should be treated to prevent progression into more severe hyperkalemia. Extremely high levels of potassium in the blood (severe hyperkalemia) can lead to cardiac arrest and death. When not recognized and treated properly, severe hyperkalemia results in a mortality rate of about 67%. Please give us more information about your condition so we can give you the best advice for your situation. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Or some trimes over-use of the nebulizer can cause dryness of the nasal mucous membranes and result in bleeding. ref:http://www.drugs.com/albuterol.
Avatar f tn 3 mEq/mL) of patients. This case report describes hyperkalemia in a 72-year-old female with diabetes and underlying chronic renal failure receiving metoprolol. Chronically, potassium balance is maintained by the kidney. In acute situations, such as a larger than normal potassium load, both the kidney and the body's cells react to maintain normal potassium levels.
Avatar f tn I really wished I was like the others who can jump on the treadmill and run without using medications. I was wondering if this frequent use of the albuterol inhaler will affect me negatively. I've also noticed it's been difficult to lose weight. Is this due to these steroids?
Avatar f tn High potassium in your blood (Hyperkalemia) if it's not because of your kidneys function, is associated with some medical conditions eg Lupus, Diabetes, Addison disease, hormonal disorders etc but if there isn't a medical condition causation, it can also be caused by diet and medications.... "Medications that have been linked to hyperkalemia include: -Antibiotics, including penicillin G and trimethoprim.
Avatar m tn It seems potassium is normally excreted by the kidneys, so disorders that decrease the function of the kidneys can result in hyperkalemia. The kidneys normally remove excess potassium from the body. Therefore, most cases of hyperkalemia are caused by disorders that reduce the kidneys' ability to excrete potassium. Individuals with kidney dysfunctions are especially sensitive to medications that can increase blood potassium levels and that includes an ACE inhibitor..
Avatar f tn Im not going to do that because there is risk involved. Read the risks of prolonged use of Albuterol and prednislone. They are devastating. Keep in mind, this may not be forever. Your child may grow out of this.
1987536 tn?1337916244 their daily affair treatment plus albuterol as needed? The reality is that I have had allergic rhinitis during the whole pregnancy, I am 18 weeksand the last two days have been horrible w my breathing. So, I used my rescue nebulizer yesterday and today with albuterol. I feel much better, but curiosity intrigued me and I started Googling about the risks of not taking meds vs taking the meds and they both blow.
Avatar n tn I gave a lot of thought before posting again, because I am sure you are the greastest mom and would never want to endanger your children. This post IS NOT a criticism, or an attempt to make you feel badly. Albuterol is a "last ditch" emergency medication. When you reach for the albuterol you are "reaching for lung reserve". Once that albuterol is ingested, the lung has no more reserve.
Avatar n tn last week we went to see a cardiologist for my slow heartbeat and sometimes there some long gap before the next beat and the doctor gave me ventolin for the treatment. do we use ventolin for those types of problem? and during the week my beat went up to 80and 90 at rest and i am 71 years old is it prudent for me to continue with such treatment?
Avatar f tn It is ok to use all 3 of the medications mentioned. Although rare, albuterol and Advair can cause adverse cardiovascular effects such as hypertension, angina, palpitations, sinus tachycardia, or arrhythmias. Only take these as directed, do not take it more often than instructed by your physician.
Avatar f tn does albuterol increase the heart rate in children, because after i gave it to my son i noticed that his heart was beating really hard a fast
Avatar f tn Again, albuterol is usually used in the nebulizer and it takes about 15 minutes to finish the breathing treatment. You will feel the faster heart rate and possibly some muscle twitches and shakes for awhile after the treatment; that lasts about 30 minutes for me. How often are you using the albuterol? Every 4 hours is the norm. Certainly you should not be experiencing the arrhythmia all the time.
Avatar f tn I wrote in to this website when my son was 4 years old and started with transient motor tics, right after having two back-to-back illnesses (with a high temperature) and also after being treated with albuterol for severe asthma. His tics have not been as bad as they were the first time he started having them, but are still present at times. He is also growing out of asthma.
Avatar f tn I have an appointment in 2 weeks with my primary doctor, but I was prescribed these medications by a different doctor who was filling in... albuterol (the emergency inhaler), Singulair (I take 10mg once every night), and one puff twice a day of Dulera with a chamber (I always rinse afterwards). It seems like a lot of meds. I’ve been on Singulair and albuterol for a few weeks, and I’ve been taking Dulera for about a week now.
Avatar m tn Do your symptoms occur at the same time each year? If so, I would think that you are having allergy issues triggering your breathing problems. If that is the case, you should discus starting treating allergies at least 2 weeks before you allergy season starts with your doctor. As Tammy said, the treatment plan your dr has prescribed is standard for an asthma flare. The symptoms won't go away on their own. As you have seen this year, they escalate with neglect.
Avatar m tn I have asthema all my life I am now 25 I was always in and out of the hospital with my asthama one year my perants just moved into a new house with me and my sister about 8 years ago I could not breath so my dad took to nowdoc in letterkenny thank god it was my own gp was on she put me on a machine to help me breath and I was ok after that she give a tablet to to take I took that and when I got home the dr said if the symtoms comes back to go to a&e so unfortunely it did I got sick and thr
1047019 tn?1256719961 The only thing you will get from using excessive amounts of the short acting inhaler is a lot of palpitations and shakiness of the hands, and perhaps a headache. I don't know why you would want to use one if you don't have asthma in the first place. It is a bronchodilator, which essentially widens the airways, nothing more. However if anyone who doesn't have asthma is using a steroid inhaler, that is highly not recommended.
435139 tn?1255460391 even walking from one room to another is a huge toll on me...I read that albuterol is a class C drug and has not been studied in pregnancy in humans...in animals is is linked to cleft palate defects and other defects too! Since I am in the 2ww I am not sure if I took my albuterol in my nebulizer if I'd be risking my potential babies health. I'll call my pharmacist or dr. in a couple hours but it is only 5 a.m. and I won't be able to call until 9...when they open.
Avatar f tn Nearly 98% of potassium is intracellular, meaning contained within the cells of the body. What happens is that during the blood draw or in the laboratory tube, some of the cells rupture, leaking potassium into the serum. This causes a high value of potassium to be measured in the serum, which doesn’t necessarily reflect what is truly in your extra-cellular space.
Avatar f tn t any other medication or treatment for him. Night time coughing is very bad for him. Even after coming off the prednisone and the breathing treatments don't help much. Is there nothing else that can be done.
Avatar f tn All of them Xopenex is the only one that does not go by albuterol. No generics because of the cfc ban. We do have generic albuterol neb solution. The Xopenex doesn't cause the shakiness that the other versions do and can be more effective. I wonder if that is what part of my problem has been? hmmmmm... I am going to ask for a sample of Xopenex to try for odor exposures again.
Avatar n tn it may be that his GFR is not up to par..this is the filtering of the blood...you need the labs..if the creatine is higher than 1.3 then the GFR will decrease..this may lower the potassium..dehydration make the potassium higher.. the doc said this was mabey hyperkalemia is higer potassium...and low potassium is hypoklamia...or the other way..i might be off..you can google this and pull up sites to were you can get good info..read on it,,this may help you see what may or may not be wrong.
499220 tn?1243052283 s more though....) probably because of all the meds that I take. But I was feeling good the last dose into the treatment 2 tabs for 7 days. But here I am again with another lump on my leg, just a little bit a way from where the last one was, and I feel sick. I called the Hospital that treated me and they said to follow up with my primary. And it is tender to touch.
Avatar m tn 37AM I have been suffering with occassional brethlessness with uneasiness/slight pain in the area from the bottom of the rib cage to the bottom of throat for the last six months and the lung x-ray and PFT were okay. The doctor advised me to undergo Methacholine challenge test. I am somehow apprehensive of taking this test inview of the side effects. I wish to know if theMethacholine challenge test will have any side effects, immediatly or in the long run, and if I can safely take the test.
435139 tn?1255460391 I am allergic to singular and I have been taking albuterol as my medication. I used to take Beclovent and the albuterol about 10 years ago but then went to albuterol only and it has seemed to do the trick until now. I'm looking for experiences with mucomyst if anyone has used it. I am all wheezy but my cough just isn't as productive as I'd like it to be...any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well!
