Common Questions and Answers about Adhd evaluation test

adhd

Avatar f tn My son (8) has been diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6. Hadn't use any medication till a week ago. We are trying Straterra and I'm hoping it will help in class with his focus/attention. He is significantly behind and am concerned with him repeating 3rd grade. I know it will crush his self-esteem. Which is why we are trying medication as advised by his doctor. I know he has something else in addition to the ADHD, some kind of learning disability.
Avatar n tn My health insurance does not cover testing for ADHD and his teacher and pediatrician want him tested. Is there an organization which helps pay for these tests? I was told by my sister that under the "No when left behind law" the school department should pay. Is this true?
Avatar n tn There will be an evaluation done but no lab test that can be done to determine if your child is bipolar are not. It will be a long process because they have to make sure your child is not ADHD or just having simple childhood tantrums.
Avatar n tn I have Fibromyalgia, my husband has Coats disease (eyes), his dad had Lupus, my grandmother had Alzheimer's, and my son has Kawasaki's, ADHD, and Aspergher's. My biggest concern is for my son. We recently went to a checkup for his Kawasaki's where they ordered an updated heart test and found he has thickening in his left ventricle and his blood pressure is elevated. His doctor had concerns because my son is taking Adderal for the ADHD.
Avatar n tn He checked me vaguely and had me wear a halter overnite I have stable heart failure. He said that during the test I suffered a type 2 AV Heart Block and wanted to change all my medicines. He did no other tests. I contacted a superior clinic and they did a photo-chem stress test, echo and full EKG - THis doctor said he saw no signs of any heart blocks - that my CHF was fine - EF of 44.
Avatar n tn ive just taken an online test to see if my son has adhd it said that he is showing symtoms. he is 5 years old. his teacher has said that he is the brightest boy in the class but finds it hard to pay attention and fidgets all the time, he shouts out alot and when he is at home he never listens to a word i say when i ask him to behave. he runs and jumps about and never walks and talks constantly i have to ask him repeatedly every time i want him to do something. do you think this is adhd?
Avatar f tn You didn't mention that she has ever been evaluated by a pediatric mental health clincian, so I am assuming such an evaluation has not occurred. It's interesting how often parents overlook specialized evaluation in the areas of emotional and behavioral functioning, when they would never overlook specialized evaluaion for a strictly medical concern. You should arrange an evaluation.
Avatar m tn As part of this examination, the teen may be asked a series of questions from a standardized questionnaire or self-test to help assess the risk of ADHD.Symptoms of ADHD may be associated with a number of other medical or mental-health conditions or can be a side effect of various medications. For example, teens with ADHD, depression, or bipolar disorder may all suffer from significant irritability.
Avatar n tn My sense from your note is that your son should not be home schooled. Relative to the possibility of ADHD, the evaluation should be done by a pediatric mental health professional. Ask your son's doctor how to go about this.

Avatar n tn should I get a second opinion on an autism evaluation that was done on my grandson? They said he has adhd and I agree but he also has many other symptoms that fall under the autism spectrum.
5757880 tn?1395578022 (Since they can only test him once and if he doesn’t meet the qualifications they cannot test him for another three years). We understood their reasoning but also was made aware that at any time we requested the testing to be done (in a formal request) it would have to be done within 45 days. Well, we have been working with the school daily. They send me reports about his behavior and we ended up having to switch his medication in the middle of September to Concerta.
184933 tn?1209353840 Does anyone have a kid with ADHD and an IEP? I've been reading through various articles and law regarding IEP, not much mention of 504 Plan though. Seems like my son might qualify because of his serious ADHD, emotional trauma and health issues. We have a meeting set for August 19th, 2010.
Avatar m tn Hi, my five year old step son has always been hyper active and some what defiant, we will taking him to have a psychiatric evaluation for possible ADHD, but recently ( in the past 4 months) we have caught him hitting him self in the head, when we ask him why he is doing this he tell us that "there is too much noise in my head" we asked him to tell us what the noise sounds like and he let out a very loud scream!
Avatar f tn If so, it may well be that she has an anxiety disorder alongside her ADHD. This will require further evaluation by her menatl health providers. Some of the ADHD medications can exacerbate anxiety, so it's a variable that needs to be considered in treating the ADHD. If it looks like either (a) her medication may cause the chewing, or (b) the medication is exacerbating her anxiety, it would be sensible to switch to a non-stimulant treatment (such as Strattera) for the ADHD.
Avatar f tn This means that there is delayed development of insulating substance over the nerve fibres with decrease in volume and minute abnormal signals which could represent small areas of cellular proliferation or normal spaces around blood vessels. It is advised to correlate the study with a clinical evaluation. This is best discussed with your treating neurologist. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn Sorry Teak, I thank you for reading my post, let me explain what has occurred. As stated in my previous post, my partner was tested several weeks ago for HIV. Last week, she again met with her mid-wife and asked about the HIV results - it turns out the blood test had not been signed-off and they had not tested it.
6658361 tn?1384717351 If your question is do they test for adhd in new borns, the answer is no. The only test I know of is a brain scan - which is expensive and not something that you would want to put a young child through. Furtermore, I am not sure how accurate it is. You do have reasons for concern since ADHD is hereditary. But, if neither your or his dad have it, your chances would go down.
