Adhd evaluation test

Common Questions and Answers about Adhd evaluation test

Avatar f tn im currently waiting to see a psychitrist to get an evaluation for ADD. the idea was brought up by the observation of my last psychologist, i stopped going to him because he was pushing issues that were non-exsistent. like always asking if ive ever been molested or raped, although i told him over & over, never. therefore my evaluation wasnt very thorough. til i see another one, my dr put me on 10 mgs of ritalin to take twice a day. what exactly can i expect in an evaluation for ADD...
Avatar n tn My health insurance does not cover testing for ADHD and his teacher and pediatrician want him tested. Is there an organization which helps pay for these tests? I was told by my sister that under the "No when left behind law" the school department should pay. Is this true?

Avatar n tn Keep in mind he scored in the top 98% in 6th grade standardized Ohio testing and actually was asked to take the SAT test (he scored average against other 6th graders invited to take the test). He is easily distracted by anything going on in the background. If there is a television on in a room he is walking through he will stop and stare at it until someone reminds him of what he was supposed to be doing. It almost seems he walks around in a haze most of the time.
Avatar f tn I have ADHD and my son has ADHD. It runs in my family from way back before ADHD became rampant and misdiagnosed. My son also has a very high IQ - and had the same difficulties as your son. I also work in the school as a speech pathologist. Request an obsevation by either the School Psychologist or a Teacher Consultant, if they have one. They can also give you a checklist that can be filled out by you, the teacher and your son.
Avatar f tn school nagging about me taking a test for my 8 year old (ADHD TEST) okay looking over the test i see questions that are not suitable for a school aged kid in 3 grade so i only answer a few of them. Called yesterday to tell me that the result of this test are in, make appt to see them. But I was told that they would send them home...yeah cannot trust them.... anyone have this issue with there school???
Avatar f tn My son (8) has been diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6. Hadn't use any medication till a week ago. We are trying Straterra and I'm hoping it will help in class with his focus/attention. He is significantly behind and am concerned with him repeating 3rd grade. I know it will crush his self-esteem. Which is why we are trying medication as advised by his doctor. I know he has something else in addition to the ADHD, some kind of learning disability.
Avatar n tn ive just taken an online test to see if my son has adhd it said that he is showing symtoms. he is 5 years old. his teacher has said that he is the brightest boy in the class but finds it hard to pay attention and fidgets all the time, he shouts out alot and when he is at home he never listens to a word i say when i ask him to behave. he runs and jumps about and never walks and talks constantly i have to ask him repeatedly every time i want him to do something. do you think this is adhd?
Avatar f tn have a hyperactive 5 and a half yr. old boy. Hyper since birth.Changing diapers was difficult. I am used to this and it has gotten a bit easier to manage since then. Alot of his behavior seems like ADHD,the type that is hyper but "takes everything in". He never liked loud music, covers his ears. And also complained once of lights being too bright at Gymnastics class (which he DID NOT LIKE). He will interact with other children and isn't shy once he gets comfortable.
Avatar n tn That is always a reasonable way to begin, and often answers the pertinent questions. The ADHD question can be evaluated via a mental health evaluation. You can ask your son's pediatrician for a recommendation of a clinician who can do such an evaluation. Before anything else, though, arrange an asap appointment with his pediatrician - the weight loss is dramatic and worrisome.
Avatar f tn He is not aggressive by nature at all, it seems like he does it out of boredom or to test the child's response (he usually waits to be hit back). He is very affectionate, often inappropriately so (kissing kids and teachers, saying I love you...) He often spaces out while the teacher is reading or when he is doing work, will lose track of the task or start doing something else. He plays and builds things on his own, but will engage a classmate when he wants to, physically or verbally...
Avatar f tn Yes my son did not speak full sentences until he regained his hearing and since has had some sensitivity to noises. I will like to test my son for Autism and ADHD. I took a online screen-er for Autism and it indicated 89 mild PDD. When I took this online screen-er I realized how similar ADHD and PDD are.We do not want to take the chance of a wrong diagnoses.
Avatar n tn There is no test, so to speak, for ADHD, including blood tests. However, there are accepted methods of evaluation, which usually involve review of history and current functioning, examination of family history, collection of standardized data via structured checklists, discussion with classroom teacher(s), and sometimes psychological testing. Pediatricians vary in relation to their level of comfort in treating ADHD via medication.
Avatar f tn hi, I thought i had adult ADHD. I went for an evaluation and now the person is telling me I have anxiety and depression only. Can adult ADHD mirror anxiety symtoms? Can anxiety cause disorganization, concentration problems or comprehension problems? Or memory problems. I forget the adhd symtoms.
Avatar f tn I am in the process of being evaluated for ADHD. I am 68. Are there special considerations for senior citizens with this diagnosis. I also take meds for depression. Starting back on effexor xr from welbutrin.
Avatar f tn I believe that you need to have what is called a TOVA test to see if you have ADHD and what tendency you have. I am an older adult who was recently diagnosed with ADHD (tendancy toward inattentive). Through speaking with my therapist, she picked up on things I was saying about my disorganization along with memory and concentration problems. I'm thinking that you need to discuss this with your LCSW and MD.
Avatar f tn My 15 yr old son was recently diagnosed with ADHD using 3 surveys. I really wanted him to be tested using WISC since he is also gifted (140 OLsaT 3 years ago). It seems like our current psychiatrist allows us to decide our own course with medication to see what would work best. He is currently on 25 mg Vyvance and the last month he has said it made a world of difference with his attention in school.
Avatar f tn Thank you for sharing your story. It is important to remember that he is still your son and there for you to love. He needs you. You will be his best advocate in seeking services/help for him as you deal with the various professionals and teachers in his life. The sooner you can get the testing done and find out what they suggest you do (direction to go), the better the outcome for him. With not knowing, you are left hanging out there.
Avatar n tn Diagnosis: ADHD/ODD, Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar II, Learning Disability  Separation Anxiety, Deep depression – up and down (swings), eyelash pulling and pulling out hair without anti-depressant, it took 150mg of Zoloft to finally stop the habits and put a smile on his face.  Does not feel pain like other children – can run across rock beach with no shoes and feels nothing - no pain. Loves animals can get stung by bees and does not care.
Avatar n tn This is a low score, bordering on mental retardation from what we can tell. So, if a child has ADHD, I assume they won't test well in a neuro-psych evaluation? That being the case, what does that say about the IQ score? If we elect to put our son on stimulants and he was to have an IQ test repeated, could we expect a better score? Further complicating things, he had seizures last May and has been taking anti-convulsants.
Avatar n tn the psychiatrist did evalution and it seem that her normal development got even more behind than it was 3 years ago with previous evaluation. Now they recommend a special school for kids with learning problems/ADHD or a private school. I cant afford a private school so I started looking at a school well known for helping kids with ADHD. The problem is that this school are about 100km from us so that would mean we have to put her in boarding school.
Avatar m tn Doctor: ADHD Does Not Exist Dr. Richard Saul March 14, 2014 Over the course of my career, I have found more than 20 conditions that can lead to symptoms of ADHD, each of which requires its own approach to treatment. Raising a generation of children—and now adults—who can't live without stimulants is no solution.
Avatar n tn Could he have something else than ADHD or ADHD in addition to a speech disability? Suggestions of books/articles on this subject would be very helpful.
5757880 tn?1395581622 Last week we got the psych evaluation for my 8 year old son in regards to all that has been going on with him. (In May the school tested and qualified him for an IEP) Well, he is at a three-tier diagnosis. (1) ADHD (Combined Type), (2) Generalized Anxiety Disorder and (3) R/O of Autism Disorder.
Avatar dr m tn As the new school year begins, it’s only natural that there’s more awareness about learning and behavior issues. One of the most controversial topics that came up frequently is ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It’s thought that 2-4% of children have this condition, and a shocking 50% of children with this condition are on some form of prescription medication. Not only is it seen in children, but adults can have it as well.
Avatar n tn My sense from your note is that your son should not be home schooled. Relative to the possibility of ADHD, the evaluation should be done by a pediatric mental health professional. Ask your son's doctor how to go about this.
Avatar n tn could have caused the adhd or increased the adhd or is it not adhd and just b12 def. with damage as a result of going so long without b12 supplements? Thank you and I look forward to your response. This boy to me is my own and we are all very close and dont want each precious day going by without knowing more.
Avatar n tn By Kindergarten, we had more concern. Acronyms such as ADD, PDD, ADHD, ODD were tossed around. A trip to pediatric neurologist was suggested, and we then heard PDD (autistic spectrum disorder). His behaviors suggested ADD, mostly impulisivity, etc. We've trialed two ADD stimulant drugs to curb his impulsive behaviors, but ended up with a kid on speed! The non-stimulant ADD drug Strattera seemed to make a nice impact on his attention span for school work, etc., and he remains on this.
