I have been doing alot of research on ADHD lately as I think my daughter probably has it. While I was searching, I kept coming across sites about adult ADHD and I'm starting to think I have it as well.
People with ADHD often pick exciting jobs that involve moving around and paying attention for short periods of time--things like being a paramedic or chef for example. It is also part of adult ADHD to be an underachiever, but again this does not have to last forever. Sometimes living at home can prolong the problems. You know your parents are acting as a safety net, and this can make you stagnate.
i was wondering if anyone here diagnosed with adult adhd could share with me a few things please
in regards to focusing and staying focused whether it's reading or driving television any activity does medication help you stay focused? and does the ability to not be able to focus extend to everything regardless the level of interest you hold in it?
I have adult adhd, im 43 y/o male .Im not taking nothing right now for it. I do take 3 vicodin a day for neck arthritis and 1# 1mg xanax at night to sleep. I been having mild anxiety a few times a day. i was wondering if i got the adhd meds it would help with the anxiety attacks. or maybe ask the dr for xanax during the day also. what is a good adhd med for adults to ask for?

Not sure if you mentioned when these symptoms that you believe are from ADD/ADHD started happening, but just so you know, it is highly unlike to develop ADD/ADHD as an adult if you did not have it as a child. Sometimes ADD/ADHD can go untreated in children, but if no one has noticed similar behaviors in you as a child, chances are this might not be ADD/ADHD. Not saying that with absolute certainty, but just wanted to throw that out there.
You may find it interesting, like I did, to take the Meyers-Briggs Personality test and see what type of natural personality you have become. ADHD does play a part in all of it, but we are born a certain personality and usually don't change with time. Here's a link:

Meds might well help you - or not. There really is only one way to find out.
I take abilify and citalopram for the schizoaffective disorder and vyvanse for the adhd symptoms. I find that since i have been given adhd meds, my condition has stabilized completely. I was not well on the schizoaffective meds alone. i still had problems concentrating and with focus .As well as social problems and listening to others and paying attention.
I am a 26 year old mother. My sister is a general manager for a great company. She put a word in for me to get a manager's position at her store. My problem is the drug test. I will have adderall in my system. I have a prescription for it, so I am not worried about that aspect but I have never told my family that I was diagnosed years ago. If I take 15mg daily, how long will it take before it is out of my system completely?
A hyperactive child may blow through a test (and get them all right or all wrong). The ADHD child will never finish the test (at least until, they have learned they will always fail and they just give up or mark things that don't make sense). I have had kids that I gave 3 days to take a test, and they barely finished.
Homework is probably one of the best clues. If most kids take one hour for homework, the ADHD child will take 3 hours and probably still not be done.
Is their anyway that you can get him to some therapy without him knowing where you are going. With ADD/ADHD, symptoms tend to get better when you get older, but of course not for everyone. I have ADD and am 34 years old. It is tough even on meds. I am an argumentative person but have definitely learned to control it. I had to see a therapist to understand that I am the one that needs to be in control of what I do.

However, I have genuine concern for her and would like to hear whether she needs to see a doctor for adult ADHD/Autism? Or is it possible to exhibit such stimming behaviours without autism? She lives in a developing country where mental health awareness is quite low. I am obviously not educated enough but would like to hear what others have to say regarding my question.
