Avatar m tn zostex is used for herpes zoster and as far as I know not related with genital herpes, he said it was also an untiviral for hsv ? is that true? should I use it till the results come out?
Avatar m tn If it really bothers you, ask your doctor for acyclovir.
Avatar m tn A Doctor told me it was disseminated Herpes Zoster. Another one told me it was not Herpes Zoster. However I took acyclovir and pregabalin. The blisters had gone completely but I still have some pain (not constant) in the foot after 4 weeks. Honestly and due the nature and locations of the lesions, I'm not completely sure it was Herpes Zoster. My blood tests were OK, and also no positive HIV.
Avatar n tn Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is caused by varicella zoster virus (responsible for causing chicken pox also). Shingles does not occur in the genital areas. However, a virus belonging to the same family, herpes simplex virus can cause genital herpes involving labia, which is a common and highly contagious disease transmitted from one person to the other through sexual activity.
Avatar n tn I went to see a doctor, who prescribed me acyclovir. It in fact worked very well and the rashes were gone in a week after i started taking the medicines. I read that shingles is mostly common in those who are above 50 years old, with HIV, or it may also cause because of stress. It freaked me out cause I am just 28 years old, so i went for HIV testing and it was negative. I am now curious to know if it is common to have shingles at this age, what could have possibly caused shingles on me?
152264 tn?1280354657 Hello and hope you are doing well. Shingles, is also known as Herpes Zoster or Zoster. It is a medical condition characterized by the development of painful blisters on the skin along a nerve path. So, if this affects the nerve which is responsible for hearing then deafness can occur. Zoster is caused by the 'Varicella Zoster Virus' which is also responsible for causing chickenpox. The virus can lie dormant and can get reactivated at intervals producing symptoms.

368646 tn?1208393887 I have Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, caused by reactivation of the Varicella Zoster Virus, also known as Herpes Zoster. It is my understanding that acyclovir, which I have taken, does not KILL the herpes virus. It prevents it from multiplying which allows the body the opportunity to fight the virus and heal. It is effective when the rash, cold sore, vesicle is visible (virus is active) and can be used as a suppression dosing.
Avatar n tn thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one to get shingles at young age. I hope it stops recurring on you.
Avatar m tn (Planned parenthood gave me a prescription for Acyclovir but my primary care doctor said that acyclovir is only used as suppressive therapy for people with many outbreaks or to help alleviate outbreaks faster (since I have never had an outbreak I don't know if I should take it) 8. Could this symptoms be related to a more serious condition that has nothing to do with the current diagnosis of HSV2?

Avatar m tn But between Day 70 and Day 73 for 4 days I had taken Acyclovir tablets orally [800 mg x 4 times x 4 days] as advised by a doctor who suspected I had got herpes zoster after some lesion appeared on my belly. I took Acyclovir tablet again for 3 days [800 mg x 4 times x 3 days] between Day 77 and Day 79. My questions: 1. I found some 2010 US research reports that suggest that Acyclovir taken orally brings down the HIV viral load. Here's one related report: http://news.bbc.co.
Avatar m tn On 30 Dec 14 I was tested for HIV and tested negative. My question, was my shingles symptom of HIV infection? as I read the shingles is OI in HIV.
572909 tn?1218268531 The new spots can be part of the problem if they are near the old ones. Tell your friends there is a new vaccine to prevent Herepes Zoster and it is recommended for healthy people over 60. It is expensive. About 4% of people have a second attack of shingles. Talk to your doctor about checking to see if your produced antibodies to shingles in a month or so OR discuss having the shingle vaccine.

Avatar n tn I am a 74 yr old female and have had sacral herpes of buttocks for over 30 yrs. If not severe i do the topical Acyclovir, if severe i get on the Valtrex immediately. The last 4 yrs it has recurred every month or so. It is now eating into my sacral nerves and i have neuralgia. Right now i have lesions and the pain shoots across both sides of the buttocks. It is creating sciatica down my legs.
Avatar m tn You should have told me your partner had already seen a dermatologist and that your partner is being treated with acyclovir. The way you asked the question suggested the diagnosis of herpes zoster (shingles) was your partner's suspicion, not a professional diagnosis. It makes a big difference. The dermatologist is the person to ask about diagnostic tests. That the derm doc recommended acyclovir indicates s/he believed your partner had shingles.
Avatar f tn The outbreaks were treated with acyclovir for ten days at a time. over the last 10 years I have been taking a daily does of 800mg. Recent antibody tests show I am positive for HSV2 .5.0. I need reliable information regarding the HSV2 manner of infection during sexual play and sexual intercourse. What precautions, etc.
1580703 tn?1651904887 This can cause inadequate closure of the eyelids and consequent exposure keratitis. Why was acyclovir given? It is usually given for a viral infection. As you are recovering, I would advise you to continue with your medications and physical therapy. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn But i did find out that i have Herpes zoster antibodies ( i had Acyclovir for a week and it came down to 6 - normal levels ).. Normal TsH levels, normal ESR levels ( 12).. Low ferretin levels, low Vitamin D levels - we had iron & cholocalciferol medications, but did not seems to help. Avatar f tn s reduced to 95-96% likelihood each year to NOT contract hsv2 from him. Even without insurance he can take daily suppressive therapy with generic acyclovir for under $20/month. You can call your insurance if you have it to see what the price of acyclovir 400mg , 60 tablets would be per month as well as ask what valtrex 500mg, 30 tablets would be.
Avatar n tn I suggest that you discuss with the physician if oral antibiotics may be indicated at this point. For how long has his scalp condition been present? Also, for how long has your friend been using the topical medications?
7552339 tn?1391962184 It sounds like Shingles. Acyclovir might help. Shingles usually start with a rash and a tingling sensation on the skin. Later one usually gets severe pain under the skin area where the pimples are. You might want to see a doctor about the rash. If it is shingles you will need the anti-viral and possibly some pain meds. It is called Herpes Zoster and comes from having had chicken pox when you were a kid.
