Acyclovir for herpes 1

Common Questions and Answers about Acyclovir for herpes 1

zovirax

Avatar f tn Thank you Grace..I have a a few more questions; I was on the 9th day of acyclovir when I did the blood test for HSV 1 & 2. Would that effect the result? Im confused that the test came back positive instead of false positive or negative? I told the nurse about my exposer date, why would they send me to the lab for a herpes blood test if it was to early ...
Avatar m tn So i got tested about 4 weeks ago for Herpes. I got tested for HSV 1 and 2 both IgM and IgG. Everything was negative, except the HSV 1 IgM was positive, and Negative IgG, and the doc told me that i have a recent infection. Ive never had cold sores or anything, which means it could be an asymptomatic shedding. The doc told me to take Acyclovir 800 mg for 5 days. But then another doc and some articles says that IgM is not reliable. Does that mean that the test might showed me a false positive?
Avatar m tn I've been getting cold sores for as long as I can remember. I have never been tested for HSV 1 but always assumed that's what it is. I used to only get 1 or 2 every year or two. But, recently they have been more and more frequent. I used the 200mg acyclovir at times when I felt I was getting an OB and it worked very well. Although, there have been times, once or twice, when it did not work and I experienced the worst OB's I've ever had.
Avatar m tn your provider gave you the initial ob doses - you were taking medication far longer you than you had to. you only needed either acyclovir 400mg 3x/day for 5 days or easier yet, 800mg 3x/day for 2 days each time you got a cold sore. many things can cause lip lesions, not just herpes. It very well could be that you have hsv1 orally and also have something else causing your current symptoms.
Avatar f tn no, not acyclovir ( xovirax ) cream. It's useless for herpes and too overpriced. You want to use acyclovir oral pills as outlined in the herpes handbook. fyi - if you are using the H balm system and a herpes antiviral like valtrex , acyclovir or famvir, you'll never know if the H balm worked or if it was the antivirals making it seem like the H balm system was working.
55646 tn?1263660809 Nationally, there are at least three different studies beginning for the treatment of genital herpes. First, the Genocea phase one (first in humans) trial. Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus.
Avatar n tn How were you tested for herpes? What are the symptoms you are getting? Be very specific.
Avatar m tn The doc put me on Valtrex for 7 days for the initial outbreak and told me that suppressive therapy was not necessary. I asked to be put on acyclovir (due to cost) anyway. I took the acyclovir for two weeks after finishing the Valtrex. Everything cleared up great, but I was experiencing some stomach upset from the medication and decided to discontinue suppressive therapy. Well, I started to experience an outbreak and started taking Tagamet.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was recently in the last 2 weeks diagnosed positive for herpes type 1 by culture and negative serologically, which I assume means it was a recent infection. The first week of the outbreak was hell. I had all the classic symptoms, terrible sores, very painful urination, fevers, swollen glands, etc. The second week was a better week with still having some sores, but not as painful and the urination was much better.
Avatar f tn Grace I would like to know if caffeine is a trigger to a herpes outbreak. The reason why is because I have been drinking coffee for a while I usually don't I had three outbreaks last month. However I have been off acyclovir for a 13 months. I had HSV2 for 4 years and 5 months now my OBGYN said that I shouldn't be experiencing that many outbreaks being that I have had the virus for some time she's saying that is too many outbreaks.
Avatar f tn You will have to re post this in the herpes community. See the type above that says "For questions and support for Herpes, please visit our Herpes Community." click on the blue type and it will bring you to the herpes community.
Avatar f tn Confirm that indeed this is hsv1 related - 6 recurrences in 2 months is incredibly high even for oral herpes so it needs a further evaluation to make sure that it really is herpes going on. this might just be chapped lips, an allergic reaction or even a bacterial infection/fungal infection going on that needs different treatment. Also ask about oral acyclovir or oral valtrex ( both come in liquid forms now ) to treat your son's cold sores when they occur.
Avatar m tn zostex is used for herpes zoster and as far as I know not related with genital herpes, he said it was also an untiviral for hsv ? is that true? should I use it till the results come out?
Avatar n tn My eye doctor sent me to a cornea specialist and after an exam he asked me to keep taking the acyclovir tablets (1 pill - 3x a day) and prescribed Pred Forte eye drops (Prednisolone Acetate 1%) 4x a day. Reading about this stereoid, I saw that it is not to be used on infections caused by virus (eg. Herpes). What should I do????? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Your doctor can test not for just herpes, but for yeast or bacterial infection, both of which can mimic herpes symptoms.
Avatar f tn I am 23 and I was diagnosed with HSV-1 in mid-December. My diagnosis was by culture. (It was also clear-cut because I've had only one partner--10 days before my outbreak he had a cold sore on his lip and performed oral sex on me). SInce then, I've had a raised line or paper cut lesion appear on the inside of the left labia about every 1-2 weeks.
Avatar m tn virest is just a generic brand name for acyclovir. Acyclovir does not cure herpes. It impedes replication of the virus in the body but it still doesn't completely prevent shedding of the virus or stop ob's completely. It's a treatment, not a cure.
Avatar m tn I'm pretty sure I understand what you are asking now but I think you still aren't understanding why I'm saying what I am saying. 20 years ago a visual diagnosis usually wasn't followed up on with testing. If it was, it usually wasn't typed because it was still assumed that it was hsv2 if it was genital.
Avatar n tn I had a severe herpes outbreak (8 blisters everywhere) beginning April 24 when my eye doctor took me off of Acyclovir after nine years. The Acyclovir was used to prevent further flares in my left eye from Herpes Iritis. Now I am suffering from pain in the muscle and tingling in my right arm. There was a blister in that area which has now healed. My internist has diagnosed me (after MRI) as having bone spur puttting pressure on c-6 or c-7 in my neck and I am facing surgery for that.
Avatar n tn 1) Does preexisting HSV-2 definitively protect you against HSV-1? Does it matter where the HSV-1 is located; i.e. oral or genital? I am afraid to kiss this guy because of the severity of my HSV-2 symptoms. I cannot imagine what having oral HSV-1 on top of my genital HSV-2 would be like given that my HSV-2 symptoms are so severe, constant and uncontrollable (see below). If the answer is yes, PLEASE direct me to studies so that I may further educate myself.
