So i got tested about 4 weeks ago for Herpes. I got tested for HSV 1 and 2 both IgM and IgG. Everything was negative, except the HSV 1 IgM was positive, and Negative IgG, and the doc told me that i have a recent infection. Ive never had cold sores or anything, which means it could be an asymptomatic shedding. The doc told me to take Acyclovir 800 mg for 5 days. But then another doc and some articles says that IgM is not reliable. Does that mean that the test might showed me a false positive?
And I have tested twice (6 months in between) and both times I am positive for HSV-1 and not HSV-2. First time HSV-1 IgG = 51.9. Second time HSV-1 IgG = 41. I know the basics about HSV and I appreciate you taking your time to explain it.
1. I was not expecting acyclovir to reduced the antibody response, I don't even think that's how that works? Acyclovir is an antiviral drug. It doesn't kill all of the virus but enough for people to use it to prevent outbreaks.
How were you diagnoised with HSV-1? Was it just a visual diagnosis or blood test or what? Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can infect either site oral or genitial. The main difference is on reoccurance rates and shedding rates.
HSV-1 Genitially does sometimes reoccur but it is normal to go a long period of time with no outbreaks. Though HSV-1 genitially doesn't have as high reoccurances as HSV-2 Genitial. This is mainly because the virus doesn't prefer the genitial area.
I was given diflucan I think its called, the one dose pill and the acyclovir for anymore hsv outbreaks. I also began takikng ortho tricyclen lo at this time. Everything was fine until mid February when I started having the tingling feelings of an hsv outbreak so I started the acyclovir and it stopped without ulcering. The nect week I got another yeast infection and it went away after a monistat application.
1) Does preexisting HSV-2 definitively protect you against HSV-1? Does it matter where the HSV-1 is located; i.e. oral or genital? I am afraid to kiss this guy because of the severity of my HSV-2 symptoms. I cannot imagine what having oral HSV-1 on top of my genital HSV-2 would be like given that my HSV-2 symptoms are so severe, constant and uncontrollable (see below). If the answer is yes, PLEASE direct me to studies so that I may further educate myself.
The doctor I met saw the cold sore and said it is HSV 1. Should I get tested for the strain HSV 1 or 2. This cold sore was about 3 months back.
In terms of precautions with a negative (HSV 1 or 2), does it make a difference whether it is 1 or 2? About 4 months back, I did have a yeat-like infection on my vagina. The gynecologist did not say anything about HSV. I developed the cold sore 2 months later.
Can I go ahead with the anti-suppressive therapy without checking for the type of HSV.
Hi, I was recently in the last 2 weeks diagnosed positive for herpes type 1 by culture and negative serologically, which I assume means it was a recent infection.
The first week of the outbreak was hell. I had all the classic symptoms, terrible sores, very painful urination, fevers, swollen glands, etc. The second week was a better week with still having some sores, but not as painful and the urination was much better.
An i did not have any outbreak of the HSV 1. But the second test after 3 months had a increased igg value from 5.1 to 6.3. I was adivsed to continue 400gm of acyclovir 2 a day and run the test again afeter 3 months. I was simultaneous also chekcing for ha1bc. after 3 months that is now, h1abc is great at 5.4, SGOT normal, liver no issues, cholestrol good. Only that again the igg values increased to 7.2 from 6.3.

If a female is the recipient of oral sex on the day discomfort begins, later an ulcer develops (PCR tests neg for HSV, CMV, etc) but serum IgG test is positive (5) for HSV2, (Neg for HSV1 & HIV neg) what are the chances the partner could develop HSV2 orally? What is the latest that symptoms could appear? (Partner has swollen nodes on day 15, no mention of oral ulcers or sore throat.

s immune response to your HSV-1 genital infection will offer a degree of protection from getting HSV-1 at any other site. Further, just FYI, genital HSV-1 tends to be milder in terms of its typical course than genital HSV-2 - fewer recurrences and less risk of sexual transmission to future, un-infected partners.

As mentioned, my first oral outbreak was two or three years prior to genital infection. I am confident based on symptoms I have oral hsv-1 and know for a fact based on culture of sores I have an hsv-1 genital infection. I'm just curious if my oral outbreaks have been mild, very mild, small sore, quick recovery, could that impact my susceptability to the genital infection?
Reading you post, it seems that you have had cold sores in the past. Is this correct? If so, you are not at risk for acquiring HSV-1, the virus you would be expected to get from receipt of oral sex. Thus if your oral lesions were HSV, they may well have been a recurrence, not an infection acquired from your performance of cunnilingus. Your doctor did not help things by not testing your lesion.
As for your genital lesions, these do not sound like HSV.
One additional clarification: All of the data on preventing herpes-driven cesarean section are in women with genital HSV-2, not HSV-1. I'm not certain whether the ACOG and CDC recommendations about acyclovir (or valacyclovir) late in pregnancy are intended for moms with histories of genital HSV-1. My judgment is that treatment is still a good idea, and I certainly would want it to be done if my daugher, wife, or other person close to me were in your situation.
Hi so I know there are a lot of questions on the topic but this is my story. I went to Mexico to get tested for stds (on june 1, 2012) because I had a genital wart and was not sure what it was at the time all tests were negative except for hpv and hsv 2. For hpv I had type 11 and for hsv 2 I had positive 1.3. Shortly after my doctor prescribed acyclovir 200mg 4x a day.
