Avatar f tn it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar f tn Doubt esophogeal cancer but also not clear how it would be related to the change in synthroid dose. Would consider having an ENT look into the throat and at the vocal cords, if that is negative and the symptoms persist, have a GI doc look in the esophagus and stomach area.
Avatar n tn I will have surgury soon to remove my esophagus due to recent detection of cancer cells. What are the effects or inconviences patients experience after the healing process and the and they have returned to normal activity. This discussion is related to removal of the esophagus.
Avatar n tn Yes, there are grades, but I can't tell you what they are. I think there is another poster on this site that has that information. In my case, the word 'moderate' was used to described the cell change, and think it involved the length of the cell change in the esophagus. Obviously, the goal is stop the cell changes from getting worse.
Avatar f tn Hi Merla, The risk of developing cancer due to Barrett's esophagus is 40 times more than the general population. The risk is further increased because of the associated smoking. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice. 667562 tn?1228262025 Thyroid cancer rarely spreads to the esophagus. I am not sure what is meant by nodules in the esophagus - the GI specialist will likely need to put a camera into the esophagus/stomach to see what is going on (aka endoscopy). Sometimes nodules in the thyroid can push on the esophagus and cause swallowing problems -- perhaps this is what is happening. Depending on the size/appearance of the nodules, FNA biopsy may be necessary -- about 5-10% of thyroid nodules are cancer.
Avatar f tn I'm sure you are very concerned, hopefully I can ease your anxiety a bit. I'm not a health professional but a Barrett's Esophagus (BE) patient as well. Basically, the cells in your lower Esophagus are different than the cells in the upper intestine. However, when the lower esophagus is exposed to excess acid, the cell structure can change to mimic the cells in the upper intestine. When this occurs, a diagnosis of BE is made.
667562 tn?1228262025 I have not read any info about thyroid cancer spread to the esophagus. The MRI imaging may be helpful to see the nodules in the different projections.
Avatar n tn I have not heard of any link between nexium and cancer of the esophagus. There is a link between acid reflux and Barrett's esophagus that can ultimately turn into cancer if the condition is not controlled. That's typically why nexium is given - to knock down the reflux and control damage to the esophagus.
Avatar f tn So I had experience swallowing problems for a few months and my doctor asked me to do a barium swallow and chest xray..chest xray was clear and stomach was clear too but for my esophagus the results said GERD and mucosal thickening..

667562 tn?1228262025 I have nodules on my thyroid. I had an ultrasound done. Diagnosis: Hashimoto's Thyroid. Please don't assume the worst (i.e. cancer). Nodules are very common in Hashimoto's. Herniated esophagus is a separate issue. They will probably do an Upper GI (painless) to diagnose and will follow up with you on whatever care you may (or may not) need short and long term. I had two hernias. Not something to be scared about right now. Hope I've helped you.
Avatar n tn I had an EGD on 9/30 and at the time the Doctor stated that I had lesions on my esophagus that he was going to biopsy. My question is---are most lesions cancerous. I don't go back to the doctor until the end of the month but I am really concerned about this and was wondering if anyone else had this diagnosed and what was done.
Avatar n tn i am 47 years old and scared of getting cancer. my grandparents died of cancer. i had the upper gastro surgery done. where they go in with a camera and look at your esophagus and stomach and small intestines. this is the diagnosis duodenal biopsy= normal, negative for parasites or other abnormalities. antrum biopsy= normal gastric mucosa, negative for gastritis or helicobacter pylori infection, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia,or malignancy.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with this and cannot have endoscopy due to lung disease. I can no longer eat and did not have a good experience with the gi doctor. So my condition cannot be monitored using endoscopy. I have lost a lot of weight, am in a lot of pain, all of my body fat is gone and I think it is a matter of time before it takes my life. how can you live if you cannot eat? People need to know that Barrets means tissue changes and that is bad and that turns into cancer. That is what it means.
955342 tn?1246487223 I was diagnosted with Barret's Esophagus 3 months ago. Since I am on Prevacid 30 mg daily. This stop my acid (85%) but I have some side effects. Loose stool with undigested food. Did somebody have the same experience or have idea what is best med. for this condition? Maybe is too strong? But my specialist said that I must have 30 mg. I am not so sure ......
Avatar n tn Does these tests at least rule out advanced colon cancer? Would these tests have shown colon cancer or at least something to some extent to warrant further testing? 8. does the symptoms point to colon cancer? With the blood now gone. 9. I feel like there is something just inside my rectum, is that a sign of colon cancer or possibly a internal hemmorroids? 10. How common is colon cancer/rectal cancer in someone my age without the family history?
1328636 tn?1389367392 s is when the acid backing up into your esophagus causes the cells in your esophagus to change from normal cells to precancerous cells.
Avatar m tn You need a particular antibiotic to treat the H. pylori. The metaplasia is a precancerous condition, so you will need an antioxidant regimen and possibly other therapies to prevent cancer. But they didn't find cancer in you, just precancer.
Avatar n tn Right hip replacement. I'm on requip, lyrica, cymbalta, celebrex, just starting actonel plus vitamins & calcium. thank you. I'm 76, female. I have osteoporosis of the right hip and osteopenia of the left hip. I have peripheral neuropathy (familial), and two bad knees.
Avatar n tn Hi....I read this is used for cancer.......below is what I found and the link.I am not sure if this helps u or not. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16928252 A study reported in this issue of the American Journal of Gastroenterology has explored the efficacy of high-power argon plasma coagulation (APC) for the eradication of nonneoplastic Barrett's epithelium.
Avatar n tn Hello, In some patients, acid can reflux into the throat causing inflammation of the back of the throat which can lead to pharyngitis, or into the vocal cords, which can lead to laryngitis and hoarseness. Although there are many other causes for sore throat and laryngitis, GERD should be suspected in a patient with chronic sore throat or other GERD symptoms or when no other cause can be found.
