Avatar n tn 5 years is the standard protocol, but your decision should be between you and your oncologist. I don't know the specifics of you or your cancer, but I can tell you that I'm premenopausal and was Stage 3 and the plan is to keep me on Tamoxifen for at least 10 years. Understand the side-effects aren't great, but a return of cancer that can be prevented would be worse, don't ya think? Doesn't guarantee cancer won't return, but it has been shown to help.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
Avatar m tn s CARE) done between 1994 and 1998 showed there was no increased risk of breast cancer in current or former users of birth control pills. Two newer studies (2011) confirm that oral contraceptives are not associated with breast cancer–specific or all-cause mortality. In general, most studies have not found an overall increased risk of breast cancer due to the use of oral contraceptives.

Avatar f tn Congratulations on your eight years! I hate to be the one to say this but there is no such thing as "out of the woods" with cancer, I wish there was. What you've done is reduced your risk for another estrogen positive breast cancer and ovarian cancer. But that doesn't mean you won't get a different type of breast cancer in the remaining breast tissue or another part of your body. But you know as well as I do that each year we are NED with cancer is better for our odds.
Avatar f tn I am 55 years old had recttal cancer removed 4/o8, and luckly no bag and no treatment. I have dense breast with micro calcification. Had a biopsy of right breast 2 years ago and was fine. Went for mamo and sono this past Monday and they saw microcalcification that they say is suspicious. So next friday I go to the hospital for yet anothet biopsy. My question is, for my surgery in april for the rectal cancer I had a chest cat scan and a full body pet scan. Both came up good.
Avatar n tn I have osteoporosis of the right hip and osteopenia of the left hip. I have peripheral neuropathy (familial), and two bad knees.

Avatar n tn No, she does not have breast cancer, but you should have it checked out if this continues.
Avatar n tn It has been my understanding that mets is related to cancer cells being present in the lymphatic system and that a piece of a tumor breaking off would be almost unheard of in the case of Breast Cancer. I believe the original poster was speaking of RISK rather than actual occurrence.
720228 tn?1530911279 Lynch Syndrome has connection to many types of cancer ... Breast Cancer is NOT one of them. Breast pain is usually a result of hormone activity and I presume that since you had a baby just last year that you may not be over the age of 40 ..... Dense breast tissue is present in nearly half of all women of any age. This does not mean that you are at a higher risk for developing Breast Cancer.
1793863 tn?1325002184 Dear Ivankaivanova, I understand your concern, presumably after reading an article on MMTV (Mouse mammary tumor virus). However, though gene sequences of MMTV have been found in human breast and other cancers, its causality is not yet proven. The human-to-human transmission of MMTV causing breast cancer is even more hypothetical at this point. It is under research.

Avatar n tn The problem with this statement, is that male breast cancer seems to be such a rare occurrence in medicine, how does anyone really know? Breast cancer in men is a very slowly progressing disease, since it is encouraged by estrogen, men have little, therefore if they should get breast cancer it may well be a long time before symptoms occur. Two things: My surgeon said that my tumor was 7 years old, that was her guess.
Avatar n tn I've had taxotere adriamycin and cytoxin for breast cancer. I am now having some incontinence and think it may be part of the nerve damage I've experienced in my hands and feet (numbness). I feel like it's not a very common side effect (if that's what it is). I also have a weak voice for about a month. I go back to the Oncologist next month for some answers.
Avatar n tn I know when I speak of my family history, I always mention that my father and mother had breast cancer. If you have any daughters, they should be tested for the breast cancer gene. For some reason, my father having breast cancer was more important to my oncologist than my mother. For that reason I was sent for the BRACA tests. My father thought that he had an ingrown hair and showed it to his dermatologist. The dermatolgist sent him DIRECTLY to the surgeon and he too had a mastectomy.
Avatar f tn I had fibroadenoma removed from right breast. One year later I was diagnosed with cancer in left breast. I don't know if there was any connection but the irony of all that time worrying about my right side while a much bigger problem was developing on the left doesn't escape me.
Avatar f tn There are treatments available for advanced breast cancer and how her disease responds is an unknown. She should discuss treatment and prognosis with her doctor who can respond more specifically to her situation.
