I just found out I'm pregnant and have no choice but to terminate the pregnancy because I've been taking Accutane. Do I need to stop taking Accutane in order to have the termination? Is it safe to continue with treatment following the termination?
t know, is that Accutane is a highly toxic chemotherapeutic agent and can permanently change the body in a variety of ways. Accutane in some patients, can cause permanent erectile dysfunction and low libido even after the medication is discontinued. Accutane can also cause permanent depression and joint pain, along with many other side effects.

Hi, I have recently found out I am pregnant, I was taking accutane last year from january until june and have not taken it since. I am a bit worried about the affects of taking accutane since finding out i am pregnant. At the time of taking it I had to use 2 types of contraception and have a pregnancy test every time I was given my next prescription. I was told to continue using 2 types of contracption 1 month after stopping taking accutane.
As in do not let it come in contact with your skin. This is very important.
3) Although I have no opinion about it, I know some people think this next thing could lead to depression. I took Accutane twice. Once as a sophmore in high school. It went well with no side effects. Freshman year of college, my acne was back and I went on Accutane again. This time, I had several symptoms. The worst probably being extreme hair loss. I couldn't brush my hair because huge clumps would fall out.
In 2004 i took accutane against my accne. I took a regular cure for 7 months and then stopped.
A few months after i stopped i noticed that i looked much MUCH better then i have ever done before, skin color, eyes, hair, body odor, everything changed to normal for me.
Then i noticed that i could read articles, watch movies and understand pretty much everything. When i talked to people it was like i saw the words in front of me so i knew what i was going to say all the time.
After more than 10 years of mostly clear skin my complexion has fallen apart seemingly due to the hormones brought on by pregnancy. It has been a year of bad breakouts, oily skin, not limited to my face but also my chest and back as well. My dermatologist has given me a prescription for Doxycycline as well as Epiduo Gel, which was not covered by my insurance and so i was not able to get that. It seems to me that there are some similarities between this antibiotic and Accutane.
Antibiotics and other topical have not worked well enough and the dermatologist is recommending that I go on accutane. I have an app. about it in several weeks. My father had severe acne until he took accutane for 3 months at a high dose without recieving any negative side effects, which cleared up 90 percent of the acne. My mother didnt have acne. I am ready to go on accutane, but the thing is that I do submission wrestling.
I am 20 years old I was using accutane for 6 months, I was supposed to have a small surgery in my pelvis while on the drug but my doctor told me to wait and he explained that no surgery should be performed because the drug does indeed interfere with wound healing in fact he recommended to get the surgery 6 months after I have been off the drug but you should definitely ask her doctor/surgeon about it and get a better opinion ...wish you and your daughter the best.
The thing that caught my eye was right at the very end of your post. Accutane. There has been a LOT of talk lately about Accutane causing severe gastro problems that sound a lot like what you've been experiencing with that. These problems, apparently, can show up YEARS after having taken the Accutane.
I don't know that the Accutane could explain ALL of your symptoms, but it very well may explain the GI issues and I would definitely mention it to and ask your GI doc about it.
I am 19 years old, I have been on Accutane twice. The first time for 7 months (80mg a day) and the second time for 11 months (80mg) a day. Ever since I've taken Accutane I noticed my face is extremely irritable. It gets red, REALLY red, like a tomato for absolutely no reason. I will lean over and my face will be blushed and hot by the time i get up straight. When i go to the gym or even lift something mildly heavy, I get red.
ve been looking for articles regarding the use of accutane in patients with keloid/hypertrophic scarring, but all I can seem to find are horror stories of people taking accutane and going and having laser treatment/dermabrasion resulting in keloid formation. I would never do that to my skin during such a delicate time! I just want to know what to expect of my keloid prone skin *while taking* accutane. I can't find anything on the subject!
My question is...
Other necessary precautions are to avoid exposure to UV rays, avoid too much alcohol, and not to take tetracycline antibiotics whilst on Accutane or for 5 weeks afterwards. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women.
