Avatar m tn I visited a dermatologist to see about getting onto Accutane , I was on it last year for three months and it did wonders but I do need another dose. While I was on it my ALT and AST shot up and I had to be pulled off of it. Now everything there is fine but my bilirubin is up here are my test results Tot. bilirubin - 1.4 , normal - 0.0-1.0 bilirubin dir- 0.20, normal - 0.03-0.18 Protein- 6.2, normal 6.4-8.9 Everything else is OK, and right in the middle of normal range.
Avatar n tn By all means discuss this with your dermatologist and share your frustration. There are other options besides Accutane. If you do take Accutane, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and your cholesterol and triglycerides. You will also need to register with the Federal iPledge program, or else no pharmacy can dispense the medication. When Accutane is given for the kind of acne you say you have, it may clear things up, only to have the acne return several months later.
Avatar f tn I am on minocycline and it says some stuff about peoples skin being itchy but not very much about scalp itching. It is mostly on the back of my head. I dont know if it is lice or anything else. It is really annoying. Any help?
Avatar n tn I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Avatar n tn Rockoff I am a 26 year old guy who has experiecned acne for half my life, probably even more. I went on accutane 3 times, ages 15, 17 and 20. After that I have tried proactiv and every medication a dermatologist could imagine. Nothing besides accutane ever worked. At this point, I don't see myself growing out of it. I went to get a facial last week and the aesthetician said that I don't have oily skin and that what I have is not acne but ingrown hairs.
Avatar f tn The question I posed was should I be overly concerned about getting rectally tested for STDs if I have had only one instance of rectal exposure vs many instances of genital exposure (all with the same person, obviously). The expert in this forum told me practically, since I had been tested negative at the genital site, the risk from rectal was low since it was all with the same person.
Avatar f tn I am starting to wonder. I was on Minocycline for years before I went on Accutane and was "cured" of acne. I wonder if acne medications help with AP?
Avatar n tn My whole face is really red to, and stops at my neck. I do have acne, and have been on Accutane for about 4.5 months. I dont know if this may be the problem or what else?
Avatar m tn Hi iv been struggling with recurrent infections around my nose, beard and scalp for the last two years. The problem started after a course of accutane for my acne. The dermatologist said it was foliculitis and put me on minocycline (50mg twice a day for three months), however, a month into the course the problem flared up again. My dermatologist then prescribed purbac double strength (trimethporim sulphamethoxazolen twice a day for two months).
Avatar f tn I have not tried echinacea, but I did notice that it was one the ingredients in the last herb I took. Is tetralysal kinda like accutane? thanks for your comment!
Avatar m tn I have seen 3 different dermatologists and have tried Minocycline, Erithromicine, and now bactrim. Also, I have tried applying retin-a, tazarac, Clindagel, and Benzaclin. The bactrim alone seems to keep the problem at bay when I initially use it but then it seems as thought the potency wears off and the problem returns. I have also tried hormone replacement therapy to the tune of $1,100/month, changing my diet and every over the counter product you can buy at a dug store.
507935 tn?1217359454 My 18 year old daughter was diagnosed with minocycline induced AIH last October. She was taking minocycline for acne. Her situation sounds very similar to yours. I sent a message to your inbox, thought you may want to correspond with any specific questions you may have.
Avatar m tn Not all antibiotics are effective against all infections ... and minocycline is not something I recall being effective in treating Lyme. I just located a website I have not been to before, titled "Doxycycline vs Minocycline for Lyme Neuroborreliosis". Here is a section from it which seem fairly reasonable; you may wish to read the rest.
Avatar n tn but, scientific studies have found that off label use of accutane has cuased a dramatic suppression in my case. A maintenace dose of 40MG twice a week kclears it up and kee[s in clear..
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).

Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Lyme based on a positive Western Blot test and a Sunnybrook test that was indicative on the 93 band (I think that was the band) I am on Minocycline and was wondering if others out there were also on it and if it worked for them. I seem to be getting better. There are ups and downs but I am able to move much better than anytime in the past 7 and a half years. Just wondering how long one has to be on the drug and if it really makes you better.
