I am a bit worried about the affects of taking accutane since finding out i am pregnant. At the time of taking it I had to use 2 types of contraception and have a pregnancy test every time I was given my next prescription. I was told to continue using 2 types of contracption 1 month after stopping taking accutane. I know it is over a year since I stopped taking accutane but am worried because I know the affects can be very bad for the baby.
I took Accutane for a while and I didn't even get a choice... it was automatic from my dr. you get a script for accutane you also get the script for birth control. The risks are crazy with that medication.
I am in the same boat...I took accutane for 11 months in 2000, and was recently diagnosed with the mixed version of IBS after a colonoscopy/endo. Not to mention the plethora of tests I had a year ago when my gallbladder "died," and I was having the same IBS symptoms. I'm lucky I don't have Chron's disease, but irritable bowl is still bad enough. :(
Taking accutane was the worst decision I think I could have ever made.
in no way am i trying to get pregnant while on this drug and am prepared to wait however long i need to after finishing my treatment to avoid pregnancy complications. however, i would like to start trying about 6 months after finishing accutane. the drug information says you can get pregnant 30 days after finishing accutane without risk for complications...but is this really true?
Although this type of skin problem is very difficult to treat, but you can try Elidel cream or Protropic ointment on these hypopigmented areas. But use them after a dermatologist’s guidance. If the symptoms still persist then you can talk to your dermatologist about laser-assisted chemabrasion(LACA).It has provided excellent results in such hypopigmentation.

Most of us have done all sorts of things that is not recommended during pregnancy prior to knowing. Many have smoked, drank, used medications not recommended etc. At that stage of pregnancy not much will impact the fetus. The important thing is to stop as soon as you find out. I understand why you are scared, but talk to your OB. I am betting he/she will tell you not to worry and be able to put your mind at ease. Congrats on your pregnancy, and I wish you a healthy happy 9 months!!
You may be prescribed another course of Accutane, or a different oral or topical treatment, sooner than a year after Accutane failure/relapse. You must wait at least 8 weeks between courses of Accutane.
Accutane results in failure or relapse when:
i)The patient has not taken Accutane at a high enough dose, or not taken it for long enough. The recommended dose is 0.5 to 1mg X kg patients bodyweight per day for 16 to 24 weeks.
Is it safe for me to me to get pregnant after being on Temozolomide and Accutane for two years? How long should I wait? After more than 10 years of mostly clear skin my complexion has fallen apart seemingly due to the hormones brought on by pregnancy. It has been a year of bad breakouts, oily skin, not limited to my face but also my chest and back as well. My dermatologist has given me a prescription for Doxycycline as well as Epiduo Gel, which was not covered by my insurance and so i was not able to get that. It seems to me that there are some similarities between this antibiotic and Accutane.
Hi, I'm on accutane. This is my third time on it. I take 40 mg alternating 80 mg every other day. I've been taking it for 4 months now. After taking it for a month and a half I've been getting rashes on my face.. It is fleshed colored and doesn't itch. In the beginning I would use a steroid cream and it would go away very quickly but not anymore. I use cetaphil cream on my face twice daily. I have not changed and products that I use on my face, nor laundry detergent.
My acne just got worse so i was put on accutane for 2 months and it cleared my skin. By that time i was 17 years old . After two months i started getting pimples again . So for a month and a half i had antibiotics again but they were completely not responsive. My acne got worse than ever before. I did not have systic acne but it was pretty bad . I had big red stubborn pimples all over my cheeks . At 17 and a half i was put on accutane again and the course lasted for six months .
Have had melasma for the past couple of years. Just started accutane 40 mg and wondering if there's anything I can use to help treat a stubborn spot on my forehead. Seems like its getting darker since I have started the pills. Already use a physical spf50 cream everyday. Any suggestions?
The best cream is Aquafor , you can use it on your lips, face and hands. You can get it at any rite aid, duane reade or cvs, I wouldn't use the Elizabeth Arden stuff, (Unless it's fragrance free and hyper allergenic) because it's best to stay away from lotions that have fragrance. I was on accutane and I used all fragrance free items, dove unscented, aveeno face lotion for sensitive skin (with pink cap) etc.
To my knowledge, there is no specific contraindication to the use of accutane in patients with MS. To my knowledge, accutane does not have drug interactions with the other medications that you are on. As a patient with MS, you can expect to have the same risks and side effects as other people on accutane, and these side effects and risks need to be discussed with you by your dermatologist before you start taking it.
