Avatar m tn I was considering having laser resurfacing six months after my course of accutane to help reduce and or remove some ice pick, boxcar and rolling acne scars I have. Do you think the resurfacing will lighten my complexion as well?

Thank you.
Avatar m tn For the melasma, treatment options include treatment with vitamin C and hydrocortisone, peel with carbon dioxide snow and alexandrite and ND-Yag Q-Switched laser treatment preceded by a hydroquinone-based application. But get it done after the course of Accutane. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar f tn Treatment options include topical and oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, hormonal therapy, dermabrasion , phototherapy and laser resurfacing. Normally a combination of treatments is followed and if nothing proves effective then dermabrasion and laser therapy are useful. You can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist. Avatar f tn They form a depression or sunken area because of damage to the collagen, fat or other tissues below the skin. In such scars, apart from plastic surgery, laser resurfacing is also helpful. They can be safely and effectively resurfaced through the proper use of a high-energy, pulsed or scanned carbon dioxide (CO2) or Erbium-Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet (Er:YAG) laser.

Avatar f tn ve been looking for articles regarding the use of accutane in patients with keloid/hypertrophic scarring, but all I can seem to find are horror stories of people taking accutane and going and having laser treatment/dermabrasion resulting in keloid formation. I would never do that to my skin during such a delicate time! I just want to know what to expect of my keloid prone skin *while taking* accutane. I can't find anything on the subject! My question is...
Avatar n tn Unfortunately for this type of scarring or pitting, there is no medical cream as such which can treat it but surgical excision by a good plastic surgeon and laser resurfacing have given promising results.I would therefore recommend these two.All the advertised creams which claim to treat it are an eye wash and although tough for you,but the condition can be treated only from a plastic surgeon or a cosmetologist/dermatologist.Pls consult them for these pits. I hope it helps.
Avatar n tn Hello, Dermatologic side effects have been reported by using accutane and keloid formation and pyoderma gangrenosum have been reported. Isotretinoin inhibits collagenase, which may result in accumulation of collagen and the formation of hypertrophic scars and keloids. A few patients have experienced keloid formation on the face when isotretinoin was administered in conjunction with dermabrasion.
Avatar n tn They have wonderful scar treatments in cosmetic clinics all over the world. Microdermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing are the two most popular for everything from fine lines to acne and other facial scars. It may sound drastic or scary, but these treatments are becoming more common and affordable each year. Do some research to find which clinics offer these treatments in your area. Look at their websites, photos and testimonies, and email the doctor that you are interested in.

Avatar m tn Avoid cosmetic procedures such as laser treatment whilst on Accutane and for 6 months afterwards due to the increased risk of scarring. Use bland cleansing and moisturising treatments, I recommend Eucerin, Lutsine and La Roche-Posay products. For dry lips use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream or Vaseline. Your eyes may become dry and you may have to wear glasses instead of contact lenses. Eloise.
Avatar n tn Do you know anything about laser treatments and how much they average? Are they very effective? whats your stand on laser and is it safe? Do you have any suggestions or ideas about my skin? What i can do? Because it cant be possible that this redness just stays like this forever or does it? Please help me with any information possible besides my regular questions... I need all the help i can get because im totally freaking out and im just going insane if what my derm said was true.
Avatar n tn get your daughter off accutane ... its the worst srug out there .. i was on it and durring my 5th month i started experiencing depression and self esteem issues .. its not worth it. my close friend had the same side affects and even talked about killing him self. nevermind all the other complications you can experience in the future, its simply not worth it and you should keep trying other methodes for acne. trussttt me ..
Avatar n tn Hello. I have been on Accutane for the last 5 months. My acne is clearing and I have no new breakouts, however I have lots of red marks where the acne was (post inflamatory hyperpigmentation possibly?)? Anyway, I was just curious if blue light or red light treatment would help, and can I use the light treatment while on Accutane? If not, what else could I do to reduce the appearance of the red marks? The acne is on my chest and is very hard to look at.
Avatar n tn Now every pimple or mark i get, i get a scar. Its white and slighly raised. My question is, is it possible that accutane could affect your healing and make you prone to scarring permanently? I've heard durning the treatment and a couple years after your skin is thin and sensitive but not permanently. I would appreciate an answer as I am really depressed over this.
Avatar m tn IPl or laser - You could try this however it could be an idea to give oral meds a try and let your skin have a few more months time to try and recover/lessen inflammation level before pursueing this avenue. I only say this because IPL has had a backlash effect on a couple post-accutane flushers.
Avatar n tn Is a chemical peel kind of severe treatment for this? What are the risks? Does it work? How much scarring does a patient have before undertaking something as costly as a peel? Is Accutane still prescribed in the US or it is not prescribed anymore? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Hello, Treatment of acne include topical and oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, hormonal therapy, dermabrasion , phototherapy and laser resurfacing. Normally a combination of treatments is followed and if nothing proves effective then dermabrasion and laser therapy are useful. You have been given the correct treatment for acne and should follow your doctor’s advice. For the hair loss, laser treatment can be used but the diagnosis needs to be made first.
Avatar n tn Now while doing research on this topic I saw that you should not use any treatments which may irritate the skin such as microdermabrasion, laser hair removal or even waxing for hair removal for 6 months following the use of accutane. Now if this be the case, how is it that pregnancy after 1 month is safe but microdermabrasion is not?? Birth defects are a much more serious matter as opposed to skin irritations. Avatar n tn Hello, Out of all of these, laser resurfacing is effective, painless and effect persists for a long time. However you should get it done from a good cosmetologist and discuss all the pros and cons before heading for it. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
Avatar n tn (Most of my reading online was from relatively dated material) I have been taking Accutane for approximately one month and have so far not seen any favorable results. I have also read that Accutane does little for Acne Inversa. Is there truth to this? 2) I have read that Carbon Dioxide Laser Ablation may be just as effective as skin grafts, however, it was an emerging treatment.
