Accutane vs laser

Common Questions and Answers about Accutane vs laser

accutane

Avatar f tn ve been looking for articles regarding the use of accutane in patients with keloid/hypertrophic scarring, but all I can seem to find are horror stories of people taking accutane and going and having laser treatment/dermabrasion resulting in keloid formation. I would never do that to my skin during such a delicate time! I just want to know what to expect of my keloid prone skin *while taking* accutane. I can't find anything on the subject! My question is...
Avatar n tn We never heard that some people who used accutane also developed keloids. He never had then before using accutane. He says now he wishes they never put him on it and he just dealt with having the acne he had back then. I feel bad for him. He lets it effect his life. He sees it as worse then others would see it but there is not convincing him of this. He tried the shots. They didn't do anything. Did the laser work for you? Keep positive.
Avatar m tn Avoid cosmetic procedures such as laser treatment whilst on Accutane and for 6 months afterwards due to the increased risk of scarring. Use bland cleansing and moisturising treatments, I recommend Eucerin, Lutsine and La Roche-Posay products. For dry lips use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream or Vaseline. Your eyes may become dry and you may have to wear glasses instead of contact lenses. Eloise.
Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar n tn ll have to live with it for the rest of my life and that the only possible treatment for this is laser. Is all of this accurate? I did finish accutane about 3 months ago which cleared up my acne but all of this redness is just terrible and looks like i still have cystic acne. Now im just totally depressed about this if its true. Is this true that i'll have to look like this for the rest of my life? I thought redness fades with time? does it not?
Avatar n tn Hello, Usually it is recommended not to have any cosmetic surgery like dermabrasion, laser treatment or plastic surgery while on accutane. Regarding the surgery for fibroadenoma, I would suggest you to discuss it with your daughter’s surgeon. Accutane may increase the chances of post surgery keloid formation and so I would suggest you to discuss this point with your daughter’s surgeon. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
Avatar m tn Have had melasma for the past couple of years. Just started accutane 40 mg and wondering if there's anything I can use to help treat a stubborn spot on my forehead. Seems like its getting darker since I have started the pills. Already use a physical spf50 cream everyday. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Hello. I have been on Accutane for the last 5 months. My acne is clearing and I have no new breakouts, however I have lots of red marks where the acne was (post inflamatory hyperpigmentation possibly?)? Anyway, I was just curious if blue light or red light treatment would help, and can I use the light treatment while on Accutane? If not, what else could I do to reduce the appearance of the red marks? The acne is on my chest and is very hard to look at.
Avatar n tn I finished taking accutane about 7 years ago. Now every pimple or mark i get, i get a scar. Its white and slighly raised. My question is, is it possible that accutane could affect your healing and make you prone to scarring permanently? I've heard durning the treatment and a couple years after your skin is thin and sensitive but not permanently. I would appreciate an answer as I am really depressed over this.
Avatar m tn IPl or laser - You could try this however it could be an idea to give oral meds a try and let your skin have a few more months time to try and recover/lessen inflammation level before pursueing this avenue. I only say this because IPL has had a backlash effect on a couple post-accutane flushers.
Avatar f tn Till then follow the treatment that has been prescribed to you and use Accutane only under medical guidance. Avoid going out in the sun while taking Accutane. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Now while doing research on this topic I saw that you should not use any treatments which may irritate the skin such as microdermabrasion, laser hair removal or even waxing for hair removal for 6 months following the use of accutane. Now if this be the case, how is it that pregnancy after 1 month is safe but microdermabrasion is not?? Birth defects are a much more serious matter as opposed to skin irritations. Avatar n tn Recently I went to a new dermatologist who diagnosed me with Acne Inversa, however, he stated it was curable and prescribed me Accutane. Upon further reading about Acne Inversa, I found out that not only was Acne Inversa incurable, but also very difficult to treat. Recently the disease has seemingly spread past my buttocks area onto the back of my thighs and my waistband area. 1) What is the current and most effective treatment for Acne Inversa?
Avatar n tn As usual, the antibiotics and retin-a did not do anything to treat my acne problems, so I have begun a new course of Accutane. Immediately after staring the Accutane, I noticed the tiny bumps under my eyes were lessening. After a month they were completely gone. Now, my dermatologist is second guessing her diagnosis of syringoma for she does not think they would go away so quickly with the Accutane. She now thinks they were just cysts. What do you think?
Avatar n tn There is no miracle cure for acne. Cortisone shots reduce inflammation and allergic symptoms but can actually induce acne. The drug considered the "gold standard" treatment for acne is Accutane (oral Isotretinoin). This is a power drug for people with severe acne which has not responded to standard treatments.
Avatar f tn Redness reducing eye drops help, but only temporarily. I had this same problem when I was on Accutane, but it went away once i was off the drug. Now it is back and I have been off accutane for over a year. My eyes are not itchy, and there is no discharge to indicate pink-eye. I was tested by an allergist for enviornmental and food allergies and all were negative. I have switched my eye cream and eye make-up in case it was related, but it is still not better. Suggestions?
Avatar n tn Rockoff I am a 26 year old guy who has experiecned acne for half my life, probably even more. I went on accutane 3 times, ages 15, 17 and 20. After that I have tried proactiv and every medication a dermatologist could imagine. Nothing besides accutane ever worked. At this point, I don't see myself growing out of it. I went to get a facial last week and the aesthetician said that I don't have oily skin and that what I have is not acne but ingrown hairs.
Avatar f tn Hi!I have suffered from acne for 10 years until i took accutane that cleared my acne(now 21 years old)...Over these years my acne got worse and now i m left with small scars like holes ang huge pores on cheeks, nose and forehead that make me look older. Some of my pores are scared and the overall texture of my skin is bad.Is there any effective treatment and which type of laser would be the best and less risky for my skin condition? Thank you in advance!!
Avatar m tn we have tried everything. peels. accutane, birth control pills, creams. so on and so on. is there something or someone out there doing cutting edge treatments? drug trials ? please just a product name or a name of a doctor that can help beyond the norm.
Avatar n tn It is a general advice for all patients on Accutane to avoid any cosmetic procedures such as waxing, laser, dermabrasion for hair removal while on and until 6 months after isotretinoin therapy as it may lead to skin scarring. This is because Accutane can make your skin much more fragile and lead to tearing of the skin when removing a wax.
1155893 tn?1263018015 Hey, I finished my accutane course like 5 months ago and my skin has been really clear but recently I've been breaking out some and would like to try out proactiv. Do you think this would be safe? Do you even think proactive works?
20910642 tn?1627445346 Hi community, I've been suffering from acne for the past 10 years. I've only discovered about Accutane since 5 years ago and it has "cured" my outbreaks. Nothing else worked for me, as a result, scars have already formed. 95% of my scars are located on my cheeks and temples. 99% of the scars are "rolling" scars. I'm currently 25 years old and male, and I've been 1.5 years off Accutane and any oral medication for treating acne. My acne is now under control.
Avatar n tn Please let me know if in the future, a laser procedure on my retina is to be performed will it be possible to focus at the right location on the retina through these multifocal rings of lenses ?
Avatar m tn I was considering having laser resurfacing six months after my course of accutane to help reduce and or remove some ice pick, boxcar and rolling acne scars I have. Do you think the resurfacing will lighten my complexion as well?
Avatar m tn I got scars like Brad Pitt even though I am healthy, fit, active, lean, low body fat, full abs 6pack. It saddens me to go through this. Basically, I lost family in a accident about a year ago. No doctors will prescribe accutane for me. I tried organics, diets name it, Atkins, low gymcemic, no bread, no dairy or sugar or flour, low glycemic, anti inflammatory, even a natural pathic doctor priced at $125/hr. Little to no help. Temporary relief.
