Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on buttocks

abscess

Avatar m tn 3 days ago I competed in a bicycle race (not sure if this is connected to my situation) and a few hours after the event I noticed a small lump on my buttocks quite close to my anus. It was soar to the touch but otherwise no bother. The next morning when I woke up it doubled in sized. By the afternoon it grew to about 2 inches in length and 1 inch wide. It is firm to the touch and seems to be located a little bit under my skin but not so deep that I can not feel it well.
Avatar n tn Hello, Your symptoms are suggestive of boils on the buttock. A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin.
Avatar f tn But it seems ever since football started, he has developed terrible acne on his buttocks. He complains about it every day and states it is difficult to sit in his seat at school. He was finally willing to show me yesterday and it looks awful and painful. Many of the spots are very large pimples. His father used to get such large boils on his inner thighs that looked cystic. Could this be hereditary?
Avatar m tn I have noticed what started as a small bump inside my left buttocks...not IN the anal cavity but somewhat near it. It has not been uncomfortable to the present time. However, what used to be a little, fleshy thing appears to have hardened and grown a bit over the last few weeks. I especially noted it this evening when I sat to use the bathroom. I thought I had this happen before last year...but, the bump just "went away".
Avatar n tn which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin. Boil on buttocks is usually due to plugged sweat glands that become infected or by an ingrown hair. Apply warm compresses on the boil and keep the area clean. Drainage of the boil is done only when it becomes soft and forms a head. Take some over the counter pain reliever and consult a doctor for examination and antibiotics prescription.
Avatar f tn Hi I'm 21 and have been dealing with abscesses for a year, I've gotten one on my arm, 6 on my buttocks, 4 on my thigh area, and 1 in the pubic area.
Avatar n tn My child developed a painful boil on her buttocks about 2 months ago. It drained pus and blood and then she got another one. We took her to the Doctor who said it looked like a staph infection. This visit to the doctor was not very efficient though because my daughter was screaming so loud at the thought of someone touching these painful sores that they only quickly looked at it. They put her on a round of antibiotics which I didn't want but I wanted her to get better.
Avatar m tn You have some skin chafing going on. Its common in both thighs and buttocks. Running in any material not suitable for running in will cause this, as well as a possible sensativity to a certain material or detergent, wearing too tight of pants / underwear, or being overweight. There are other causes, but one or more of the above mentioned is likely your issue. Its no biggie, my husband has always had it on his rear and I have seen several others with this issue.
Avatar n tn Maybe just a bad boil, but possibly an infected pilonidal sinus (a minor congenital anomaly, but one that can get infected) or a perianal abscess. See a health care provider right away; you probably need antibiotics and perhaps incision and drainage.

Avatar n tn I have a spot on my left buttock that is now red, sore and itchy. The day before it became a 2" eruption on my skin, I noticed a hard knot under the skin, kind of similar to a large pimple getting ready to appear. This is the third time this has occured in the past 3 years, in the same area. I've gone to the doctor thinking I may have gotten bitten by a spider, because after a few days it starts to dry out and get itchier and spread a little more.

Avatar m tn For quite a few years now, I have suffered with tailbone cysts, cysts between the legs (where my legs end and my buttocks begin), and also I have a long history of tonsil abcesses. The cysts come and go, and when they get irritating enough, I usually can burst them (like a pimple), and they go away for a month or two. I also have several fatty masses on my arms and chest. I had one removed from my arm, and it looked like a tiny bunch of grapes.
Avatar n tn A little over a week ago I developed what appeared to be just a pimple on my left butt cheek a couple inches from my anus. It grew progressively larger over a couple days, and also painful to sit on. Under the skin it felt very hard and about the size of a quarter, with some pus coming out. It started to diminish a couple of days ago, and is now smaller (still hard under the skin), much less painful, and dry skin around it is flaking away in a circle.

Avatar f tn They were noticeably red, slightly warm to the touch, painful when pressure was applied and, over the course of a few weeks, multiplied in numbers/size. They only appeared on my legs and a few on my buttocks. They ranged from a quarter in size to the size of my palm, and numbered around the teens. Seemed as though they formed in my fat tissue (?) I went untreated and the bumps disappeared within a couples months.
Avatar f tn I have boils or abscess on my buttocks. I can not tell between the two. They do not produce pain or any discomfort. I also get them under my breast, inner thigh, and also my waist. Could this mean I have contracted HIV?? I had an HIV test done in 2008 when I was pregnant with my son. It came back negative. These abscess or boils have been coming and going for years now. WHAT COULD THIS BE??? I had unprotected sex back in 2007. But I took the HIV test in 2008 well over three months.

Avatar n tn Since yesterday I've had a large swollen bump on the labia majora..it's very painful, it hurts to walk or sit. I've been putting warm cloth on it and it seemed to help with the swelling but it's still really painful. I don't really want to go to the doctor because I just don't have the money right now, and I feel like it would be a waste if it's something that I can take care of on my own. Anyone else ever experienced this before? What can I do to ease the pain?
Avatar n tn I was recently seen by doctor for a cluster of itchy, painful bumps on my buttocks, it wasn't leaking so they just looked at it called it "cellulitis" and gave me antibiotics (oral) and topical. I took these just as prescribed but within two days i got a painful boil on inner thigh, it had a black dot in the center of it. I went back to doctor and he said to continue taking antibiotics and come back if it gets worse.
