abscess

Avatar n tn Over the past few days, a lump has developed in my buttocks. I have no idea what it is, only that it's extremely painful and really awkward when sitting down. I can't see it, but only feel it when wiping and my guess would be it's size is about the size of the pinky tip, completely round, and feels pretty hard.
Avatar n tn painful lumps in the anus/rectum, pain and swelling in the anus or buttocks area, painful bowel movements, fever/ or night sweats, and abdominal pain. Antibiotics treat the infection that has caused the abscess. The specific antibiotic depends on what infectious organism has caused the abscess. Whether the abscess is drained or not, antibiotics are always used to treat the underlying infection. Needle aspiration of the abscess to remove the infectious fluid.
Avatar m tn 3 days ago I competed in a bicycle race (not sure if this is connected to my situation) and a few hours after the event I noticed a small lump on my buttocks quite close to my anus. It was soar to the touch but otherwise no bother. The next morning when I woke up it doubled in sized. By the afternoon it grew to about 2 inches in length and 1 inch wide. It is firm to the touch and seems to be located a little bit under my skin but not so deep that I can not feel it well.
Avatar m tn A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin. Boil on buttocks is usually due to plugged sweat glands that become infected or by an ingrown hair.

Avatar m tn I get these painful red bumps on the inside of my thighs, my waist, and my buttocks. They are painful for a few days, but then the swelling subsides and they begin to decrease in size. Sometimes they will come to a "whitehead" simillar to a carbuncle or boil. I can handle the discomfort, but what I'm wondering about is the scars they leave. They are a brownish tone, and very unattractive, and embarrasing for me.
Avatar n tn Hello, The first possibility is of a boil or abscess in the area. The second possibility is of a perineal hernia. It is a hernia involving the perineum (pelvic floor), mostly found in men and often appears as a sudden swelling to one side (sometimes both sides) of the anus. Second possibility which comes to my mind is of pilonidal cyst.
Avatar f tn They were noticeably red, slightly warm to the touch, painful when pressure was applied and, over the course of a few weeks, multiplied in numbers/size. They only appeared on my legs and a few on my buttocks. They ranged from a quarter in size to the size of my palm, and numbered around the teens. Seemed as though they formed in my fat tissue (?) I went untreated and the bumps disappeared within a couples months.
Avatar f tn ve gotten one on my arm, 6 on my buttocks, 4 on my thigh area, and 1 in the pubic area.
Avatar n tn But for the past 11 years I have had a small rash on my buttocks as well right in the crease. It normally begins to itch once I get hot there from sitting or waiting to use the bathroom (end up slightly sweating) something. I was told from the dermatologist that it is eczema and that you can get it there. Ok, but once immediately one spot heals another pops up immediately.
Avatar m tn Hello, From the symptoms it sounds like a boil or abscess on the buttocks. A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. Avatar m tn For the last 4 months or so Ive had a thickening of the skin over my right axillae. I has a huge abscess in the area which resolved spontaneously after antibiotics. I noticed the irregularity in my skin soon afterwards. The lump hasnt increased in size but it wont go away either. Any thoughts??....thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi angel114, Typically if a abscess forms you take antibiotics, and if it's bad enough they have to also be drained, you can't really "cut out" an abscess,at least not without taking healthy tissue with it. Your grandmother should receive a pelvic exam to determine the cause and extent of the abscess to determine the correct treatment,a small sample may also be taken to rule out cancer beings she is post menopausal.
Avatar m tn An abscess is basically a build up of pus and infection in the jaw bone area. I assume that since you've seen a dentist recently, it probably would've been spotted at your last checkup as they generally develop from large cavities. There are abscess that also develop from gum disease as well but assuming you had a cleaning and check up, thats also a little more unlikely. Best to get it checked out and taken care of.
Avatar f tn More specifically it is called Amoebic Liver Abscess. The abscess, if it is one, is relative small and can be cured by antibiotics. No need to go in for aspiration. It is 100% curable. Also go in for a blood test along with a liver function test to test the levels of the enzymes. But, FIRST consult a good gastroenterologist. I wouldnt worry if I were you.
Avatar n tn i put it down to hemorrhoids but then symptoms that followed suggested it could be an anal abscess. (Pain in the anal area or buttocks, Fever, a lump in the anal area) The first docotor i went to said they were hemorrhoids after visually inspecting them and gave me suppositories and ointment for it.
Avatar m tn I have had piles and anul fissures( tears in skin recently). And they where almost gone now im experiencing a bit of that still but mainly a really bad like muscle strain when i pass stools and when i clench my buttocks and sometimes even when i get up from a chair even know im not really constipated and they are relitivly soft.
Avatar f tn A short background of my problem - I took a strong antibiotic in Feb and immediately noticed an anal itch which gradually got worse. Used Prep H cream for a while and taking daily salt baths since Feb, went to doc in March and no hemorrhoids found, just dry and damaged looking skin. April I was prescribed anti-fungal single dose plus an ointment to use daily. The itch faded away quickly which makes me think it was yeast, but the feeling of swelling, dryness and stiffness persisted and got worse.
Avatar f tn Anal fissure is the lacerated wound made by a cut in anal epithelium. Typically the pain from an acute fissure-in-ano is severe and is precipitated by defecation; it may take minutes to hours to gradually settle. Other causes of anal pain are anal sepsis, hemarrhoids(piles) and boils. Pls consult a surgeon and get yourself evaluated for the above possibilities. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing and if you have any additional queries.
1666982 tn?1445198395 The reason I have reocurring fistulas was due to a abscess that was opened from the wrong direction, by a gynecologist. So maybe another abscess.
Avatar m tn For quite a few years now, I have suffered with tailbone cysts, cysts between the legs (where my legs end and my buttocks begin), and also I have a long history of tonsil abcesses. The cysts come and go, and when they get irritating enough, I usually can burst them (like a pimple), and they go away for a month or two. I also have several fatty masses on my arms and chest. I had one removed from my arm, and it looked like a tiny bunch of grapes.
Avatar f tn Either your husband has been bitten by something or you have developed an abscess. If it is an abscess it will need to be drained. Take an anti-inflammatory analgesic like ibuprofen and an anti allergic and see if that helps. If it is an insect bite, it will improve. However if the insect’s sting is left inside, then also it will not heal unless the sting is removed. Keep the hand raised on a pillow kept beside him when he is lying—basically avoid the hand hanging down.
Avatar n tn From what you are describing I would think it may be a Bartholin's cyst or abscess. The Bartholin glands are in the lower portion of the vagina and while the cyst isn't supposed to be painful, the abscess is and I would imagine if the cyst were big enough it would hurt. You may want to see your gyn about this. Also you can google Bartholin's cyst and you will get a lot of information.
Avatar f tn This may be brought about by a break in the skin/areola, producing a superimposed infection and thus abscess formation. If there is an abscess, incision and drainage must be done and the specimen is sent to the pathologist for evaluation. Good luck.
