abscess

Avatar f tn it could be a granuloma of tubercular origin, lung abscess etc. CT halo sign or ground glass attenuation surrounding the nodule on CT image indicates TB and biopsy needs to be done bronchoscopically or via Trans thoracic needle aspiration. This should confirm the diagnosis. Hope this helps. Take care.

Avatar n tn I am only 23 years old and I am a little worried, about 6 months ago I had a CT scan on my stomach. They found nothing in that scan but noticed a spot in my right lung. They did another CT scan and noticed that there was 2. They said it might be scar tissue but to make sure I need a CT scan every 6 months to be sure. I don't understand why I would have something like this I feel I am too young.
Avatar n tn Ok, so I've been putting up with on again, off again itching for months on my labia, near my vaginal opening. Never "diagnosed" with HPV but I did get rid of a suspected wart this past year. Can you have a bacterial infection without discharge? It drives me CRAZY sometimes, the only thing that calms it is gold bond ointment, which is minty and refreshing but I'd like no itch. No "rash" that I can see, unless I give in and scratch.
Avatar n tn Hello, 10 years ago I had an abcess on my left lung, now I am having simiar pains. When I breathe I have really bad pain in my back near my shoulder blade. The dr did an x-ray and said there was nothing wrong, it has been three weeks now , and sometimes I can barely breathe, any ideas what this may be???
Avatar n tn Sometimes the walls of an abscess are very tough and makes it harder for antibiotics to 'get through' If it is an abscess that's easily reached, then the usual treatment is to drain it first, and also give antibiotics. But with her abscess in this location, that's not as easy. Usually for a lung abscess, antibiotic treatment is used, and drainage only occasionally, but that does depend on what is stuck down there. A bronchoscopy might be the answer.
Avatar f tn To answer your question regarding aspiration, yes, aspiration of a wide variety of foreign bodies, can cause pneumonia and/or lung abscess and fever could be one sign of this complication. I suggest that you contact your primary care doctor to get his/her opinion and that strong consideration be given to bronchoscopy. Mucinex or any other medication is unlikely to clear whatever was aspirated. Also, the longer you wait, the more likely are you to develop lung infection.
Avatar n tn That equates to a pack a day for 50 years, two packs a day for 25 years, etc. His turned out to be a lung abscess. He had no symptoms, just a spot on an xray. Back then there were no CT or MRI scans available. They ended up doing a needle biopsy through his chest wall. He recently had a scare where, after he had a pretty nasty cold, he was coughing up blood. Not a lot, just some bloody mucus when he really coughed hard. He and I were both worried, of course.
Avatar f tn The surgical procedure used depends on the size and depth of the abscess. The entire abscess may be removed (excised) if it is near the surface and enclosed in a sac. Needle aspiration guided by CT or MRI scan may be needed for a deep abscess. During this procedure, medications may be injected directly into the mass.
1590446 tn?1297152070 I am 19yrs old, female, healthy weight. I have had chronic rib pain for MANY years. As far back as a can remember i would get this "aching" feeling in my lower left rib (near the very bottom), always in the same exact spot. In the past it would come and go and wouldnt come back for a long time. However, in the last year or so, it has started aching way more frequently. (sometimes daily as opposed to maybe every few months or so in the past).
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 37 year old female! I have been having pain in my left side near the kidney area for the past 7 months. It comes everynight when I lay down, keeps me up all night in pain. I try to sleep half sitting up in bed but the pain does not subside. I am a wreck by morning and having trouble functioning at work any more. I have been to the hospital emergency several times with no diagnosis. I have had blood tests, urine tests, ultra sound, ct scan, colonoscopy in the past few months.
Avatar f tn It felt like I was being stabbed and/or my lung was too big and is just being pressed into my ribs. It feels like I can never get a full breath of air because I have to take short breaths or it will hurt too bad. It has started radiating to my back/shoulder and neck. If I hunch forward it gets really bad. When I take a deep breath it feels like I am being stabbed and then randomly it will throb around my shoulder/back and neck.
Avatar f tn Went to a pulmonologist, and he did a lung function test (spirometry) which came back normal. I was also test for allergy's which came back negative. He prescribe singulair, which actually worked and got rid of my cough completely. I was on it for about 2 months, then tapererd off. As soon I was off of it, the cough came right back, mucus and all. I am so frustrated! I told hime that the singulair worked, but that it was only supressing the symptoms, not curing them.
1182479 tn?1273376014 Hi Everyone I have a question, one of my Betaseron shots from last week, has developed a really bad infection, the pain is terrible and nothing i do seems to make it better, the redness around the infection is about 1 1/2 inches, but the pain extends to about 5 inches all around I should probably be on Antibiotics for it, right now i am soaking it with Epsom salts, and spraying it with antibiotic spray I am seeing my Neurologist in the morning, should I bring this up with him or go and see my
Avatar n tn I had a thoracotomy on Dec. 20 to remove a tumor on the surface of my lung near my spine. Luckily, the tumor was benign. However, I'm still experiencing quite a bit of pain, especially near my shoulder blade and along the incision. Currently, I'm taking Ultram 50 mg every 6 hours during the day. I'm scheduled to return to work a week from today, and I had hoped that I would be pain free by now. I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon in mid March.
Avatar m tn chest x-ray) - endometriosis (if you're woman, Dx: laparoscopy) - uretheral stone (would go with burning at urination, Dx: urine test for stones) Where to start? 1.a. "WBC stool" (leukocytes in stool) or "stool lactoferrin" test show, if there is inflammation in your intestine or not. 1.b. Clostridium difficile toxin in stool 2. 5-HIAA in urine for carcinoid, also other urine tests, if stone is suspected. 3. X-ray of the chest, if the pain is *behind* ribs.
Avatar f tn First I would suggest getting a second opinion. If they still think it's a tumor and not an abscess or poor healing, then I would take chest X-rays to see if it has spread (metastasis) to the lung (the most common place). Then I would at least get a biopsy if your parents are so unsure. Why? Because it's tough to diagnose cancer just by looking or feeling! In a dog, there is a 50-50 chance that it is cancer vs. not cancer. And of course, it's could really be a result of the bite.
587315 tn?1333556383 Breathing Difficulties - any labored breathing requires immediate veterinary attention. Possible causes include asthma, lung disease, foreign body aspiration, severe upper respiratory illness, or cardiovascular disease. Seizures - any spasm or convulsion including disorientation, twitching, or apparent loss of ability to recognize surroundings require immediate vet care.
Avatar n tn The X-ray didn't reveal anything, but the CT scan showed an abscess. The doctor called it a retro-tracheal abscess, which isn't even a thing because these things don't usually happen in this spot. More common is a retropharyngeal abscess which can usually be traced back to some sort of trauma (food getting stuck in the throat or something). In my husband's case, we have no idea what caused it.
222080 tn?1189759422 Hello Liz Yes I have the same thing after only 6 years one of mine came off only that I had a X-ray for a kidney problem did I find out it is up near my gallbladder. I was so worried as I do not wish to have any more children as If I did I would not have had it done in the 1st place I was beside myself. My Gyno said it is a common thing and not to worry about it he did reassure me that I would not fall pregnant as once the tubes have been clipped it seals them shut.
Avatar f tn My son lost his dad when he was 8 years old, to lung cancer. Seeing me ill is really frightening for him so I'm also trying not to "act sick" much of the time. I'm a working professional, but can't drive to my job (thankfully can work from home) but have so many financial problems right now ... I feel like everything is piling on top of me at once. Not sure what my question is...

599170 tn?1300977493 They didn't believe me. After all of that, I went to the lung doctor and she did a lung function test on me and looked at my x-rays. BOTH showed normal. SOOOO, she didn't believe me either. At that point, I was totally in tears. I'm not the crying type either. But, I thought, at least the lung doctor would take me seriously. After doing some research online, I saw that pulmonary embolisms could cause my shortness of breath. I knew that I needed a CT with contrast to diagnose it.
Avatar n tn i too have had a small pea sized lump on my ear at the back, just near to the crease. (if you put your finger just behind the lobe and rest it in the soft part, it is just above there) it is tender to touch and has been there for nearly 3 months. i dont think it has changed in size and it isnt a different colour so you wouldnt see it there until you feel it. i have not had the chance to go and see the doctor mainly because im not that worried about it but im curious to know what it could be.
Avatar n tn electrodes, two small wires that go underneath the skin near the TMJ to sit just beneath the temporal lobes of the brain without actually getting into the brain itself. We will typically withdraw a person from their antiepileptic drugs during this period, and use some common simple maneuvers to increase the odds of seizures occurring during this monitoring period.

203342 tn?1328740807 They biopsied the mass and said it was fibrous scar tissue with ulceration nearby indicating a near classic case of Crohn's Disease. My surgeon was surprised. He didn't think I showed enough symptoms of Crohns. I did have some loose bowel movements for months with stomach pains off and on. Maybe this is a mild case, I don't know. He wants to send me to a Gastroenterologist in a few weeks when I'm healed enough from the surgery.
2186126 tn?1384961026 She still manages to go outside to potty and just wants to be near me. She sleeps all the time and hasn't eaten hardly anything in days, but still drinks water. Her time is nearing an end. This is the second dog I have had with Cushings.
Avatar f tn I would think they can get a sample with a needle, maybe US guided unless it is very apparent and near the surface.
