Common Questions and Answers about Abscess gum causes

abscess

Avatar n tn Thermal sensitivity and discomfortable biting are probably associated with occlusal interference. Occlusal adjustment can generally eliminate the symptoms. Gum abscess may result from periodontal or periapical infection. Seeing a periodontist to evaluate periodontal condition is advised.
Avatar n tn I am otherwise a very healthy person with good dental hygiene, who eats well and takes supplements. I do go to a periodontist for gum disease that I have been told that I just have a certain type of bacteria in my mouth that causes this. Every time I have gone to the dentist - I have switched dentists and have gone to at least 6 in the past 5 years - it has resulted in some catastrophe that has cost me hundreds or thousands of dollars. I am so upset, I don't know what to do!
Avatar m tn Hi there, The exact cause of this white bump can be confirmed only after a complete clinical examination. It is possible that it could be due to an infection involving your teeth or gums. Canker sore symptoms begin with a tingling sensation, followed by a red bump that becomes an ulcer. An abscess can cause swollen painful red lump which may drain pus.Thrush a fungal infection of the mouth causes white patches on tongue and inside of cheeks. It is best to get it checked by a PCP.
Avatar f tn An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar m tn Hi, Around 4 weeks ago I had a dental abscess which lasted around 7 days. I went to the doctor and they prescribed me antibiotics (flagyl and amoxycillin duo forte), when it was clearing up I had a feeling in my gum/mouth of like a cavity, i can't really describe the feeling... felt like it was swollen, like something was there... but that went away.
Avatar m tn I have had a smallish (maybe 2 cm in diameter) skin abscess or infected cyst on my back next to my cervical spine for the last 2 weeks which doesn't seem to be getting bigger or coming to a head (I tried squeezing it thinking it was a pimple at first.) When I touch it, it feels soft/puffy as though there's some fluid under it (same as a gum boil) and it's no longer hot/painful, just itchy sometimes.
Avatar f tn Some of my swelling has gone down since and the pain has completely stopped, although obviously the abscess still causes discomfort because of the pressure, does this mean my front tooth has died? It has changed in colour, it's now slightly greyish. I have a dentist appointment in two days and was wondering what they would do.? To drain the abscess I think that they would need to make an incision quite deep into my lip/gum as it is so high up and the skin seems quite thick.
Avatar n tn It is more common in children who bite fingernails and college students who eat popcorn. Basically, a piece of fingernail or the hull gets stuck between the gum and the tooth and causes an infection, which in rare cases leads to a fistula forming. I bite my nails and I eat popcorn. Since the fistula began decreasing around the time I got my tooth recemented, I wonder if there was actually something caught in between my gum and my tooth and it somehow came out and is no longer present.
Avatar n tn I have a hard white bump on gum, it doesn't hurt just sore. What would be a good home treatment?

Avatar n tn Soon after I had internatal vibrations (head and arms), tightening around neck area, ear and gum pressure and some vision problems. I have had a clear MRI and all blood work came back ok apart from B12 level of 120 and low calcium and vitamin d level, but after taking suppliments these levels rectified themselves. Therefore my doctor has ruled out vitamin deficiencies and the neurologist also seems think there is nothing seriously wrong.
Avatar n tn A few weeks ago, I noticed a sore bump on the upper gum. It causes no pain unless I press on it, then it is painful. It is all the way up on the highest part of the gum and it is above a tooth that has a cavity. This tooth is sore once in awhile. Are the two related? Is it some kind of infection? Thanks.
4328950 tn?1352876936 Hello, There are many causes of bad odour from the mouth like gum disease, halitosis, tooth decay, abscess etc. Poorly fitting dental appliances, yeast infections of the mouth, and dental caries are few other common causes. Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis, chronic sinus infections, postnasal drip, diabetes, acid reflux and liver or kidney problems are few other causes of bad breath.

2075494 tn?1331758942 The hard lump could be due to causes like tooth infections, tooth abscess or periodontal disease. It could also be indicative of cysts or tumor. Traumatic injuries and and moth ulcers are some of the more common causes of a mass on the gums. You will need to consult your dentist who will examine you and determine the cause so that appropriate therapy can be initiated. He may even ask for blood test and an X ray. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn Hi, There are a few possibilities here which need to be looked in to like TMJ or Temporomandibular joint dysfunction, sinusitis, ear infections and trigeminal neuralgia and dental abscess. TMJ is seen in people who are in the habit of chewing gum or who clench their teeth in the night. Sinusitis can cause pain behind the ear and eyes and is usually accompanied by a runny nose and congestion. Trigeminal neuralgia causes sharp shooting pain in the temple region, in the face and around the eyes.
Avatar f tn Hello, A dental examination is important for detecting the cause of your symptoms. It is possible that there could be an abscess or retention of debris under the bridge. A loose crown can lead to lodgement of bacteria under it and cause bad odour.Other causes of bad breath from mouth are tooth decay, sinus disease or gum diseases. These are only possibilities. Seeing a dentist for accurate diagnosis is important. Do keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
