Avatar m tn Hi there, The common sites for abscess formation are groin s and armpits. Abscesses are caused by minor breaks and punctures of the skin, obstruction of sweat glands and oil glands, and inflammation of hair follicles. Avatar f tn Hello, Long ingrown hair may cause aggravation of symptoms because friction has caused hair to penetrate skin, which resulted into abscess formation and the attempt to remove it was premature or incomplete. Though later pus came out from it, part of hair must be inside causing recurrent pus formation. Such situation does not allow the wound to heal and cause indurations (Hardness with increase in size).
Avatar n tn Hello, Without external examination it is very difficult to confirm a diagnosis, but it sounds like a boil. A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin.
Avatar n tn It could be a beginning abscess formation. This usually presents with a lump in the breast, with associated erythema (redness) of the overlying skin, and occasional pain on the involved site. I agree with your decision to see your doctor for evaluation. Relax and stay positive.
Avatar m tn Possibilities that may need to be considered include infections/ inflammations, abscess formation, growth from the skin or underlying tissue etc. I would suggest a review with your dermatologist to consider the mentioned possibilities and for appropriate management. Meanwhile you could try applying an antibiotic ointment such as soframycin on the lesions and see if these seem top help. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hi Piercing of lips (or other parts) can lead to formation of abscess, cyst or scar tissue. The formation of cysts is perhaps due to the fact that epithelial cells of the skin are sometimes easily displaced into the connective tissue, become encapsulated and result in a cyst. You should consult a surgeon for a proper diagnosis and management. Generally these cysts cause no harm but may require treatment due to cosmetic reasons.

Avatar f tn So I watched a video on youtube about preauricular sinus infection and I learned that it could lead to the formation of abscess. When I was young, I didn't know what the hole was and I often got very irritated with it when it had secretions. I played with it so much that one day I realized a second hole was formed near the "crus of helix" of my right ear couple cm below the first one and that it also extends deep into my ear like the first hole above.
