Common Questions and Answers about Abscess formation

abscess

Avatar m tn Hi there, The common sites for abscess formation are groin s and armpits. Abscesses are caused by minor breaks and punctures of the skin, obstruction of sweat glands and oil glands, and inflammation of hair follicles. These abscesses contain dead cells, bacteria, and other debris, which causes inflammation and pain. The common bacteria are staphylococci but sometimes tuberculosis can also lead to abscess formation.
Avatar f tn This may be brought about by a break in the skin/areola, producing a superimposed infection and thus abscess formation. If there is an abscess, incision and drainage must be done and the specimen is sent to the pathologist for evaluation. Good luck.
Avatar f tn So I watched a video on youtube about preauricular sinus infection and I learned that it could lead to the formation of abscess. When I was young, I didn't know what the hole was and I often got very irritated with it when it had secretions. I played with it so much that one day I realized a second hole was formed near the "crus of helix" of my right ear couple cm below the first one and that it also extends deep into my ear like the first hole above.
Avatar f tn Bleeding from the breast can be because of infection, abscess formation or cancer. Microscopic examination of the discharge to look for blood cells and any abnormal cells and mammography will help make the diagnosis. Consult your Doctor. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Hi leelariah, If left untreated, the external opening may temporarily close with a resultant recurrent abscess formation or formation of a more complex fistula. These complex fistulas often traverse deep to the external sphincter making operative repair more hazardous. Additionally, long-standing fistulas have a low but real risk of malignant transformation. And blood in stools is definitely abnormal.
Avatar m tn If you feel them then u need to check ur teeth for abscess formation, periodontal pockets or wisdom tooth infection.
Avatar n tn There are no reports of cyst formation as a result of spinal steroid injection. There are reports which mention abscess formation, but it would have more symptoms than just pain. Anyways, it will be useful to rule out an abscess. Repeated needle injury and infection can lead to an abscess. An abscess is a localized collection of infected material, secretions and is usually enclosed in a closed "cyst-like" space. There are chances that the cyst may be present earlier.
Avatar f tn Hello, Any damaged or decayed tooth or molar should be treated as soon as possible. It can act as a focus of infection, us formation and abscess formation. It is suggested to see a dentist and get examined. It may not be possible to determine the exact cause without a complete dental examination. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Good luck and take care!
Avatar f tn The common causes could be bacterial like tuberculosis, pyogenic pneumonias, viral, fungal infections. Few other possibilities are abscess formation, necrotizing granulomas, or eosinophilia etc.It is important to discuss these test results with your pulmonologist since he knows your medical history best. Only after a detailed clinical evaluation the cause can be determined. Hope it really helps. Do keep us posted. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn Patients with concurrent immunosupressive co-morbidities (diabetes, cancer, chronic steroid therapy) are at higher risk for these types of complications. With your husband having abscess formation, bacteremia, and now what sounds like a sternal wound infection, I would have an infectious disease specialist involved who might recommend a long-course of antibiotics. Your previous surgeon should also be involved given there could be potential surgical needs.
Avatar m tn Surgery is done when there is Mastoid osteitis, Intracranial extension, Abscess formation, Co-existing cholesteatoma and Limited improvement after IV antibiotics. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn Surgical clip migration can occur but typically an incidental finding rather than a complication, unless there is evidence of surrounding fat stranding, abscess formation, or perforation into adjacent organs.
Avatar m tn The fistula is linked to alot of bad things .Most anal fistulas originate in anal crypts, which become infected with abscess formation. When the abscess is opened or ruptures, a fistula is formedcauses of anal fistulas include opened perianal or ischiorectal abscesses, which drain spontaneously through these fistulous tracts. Fistulas are also found in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, particularly Crohn disease.[3] The incidence of fissures in Crohn disease is 30-50%.
Avatar n tn There is a condition known as hidradenitis suppurativa where the infection commonly starts around hair follicles and sweat glands, resulting in multiple lumps and abscess formation. Most commonly affected areas are the axilla and inguinal areas. It would be best to consult your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care.
Avatar n tn I have also had abdominal pain for a week. Going on a week and 4 days now. It started in my lower right abdomen, and felt more or less like I had held my bladder for an extended period of time. The pain is very dull, but noticeable. I went on an antibiotic as my doctor assumed it was a UTI (there was a small amount of infection and blood in my urine) and the antibiotic did not help.
Avatar f tn Hi there! Well, without a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Based on your description it is quite possible that you are having Bartholin's cyst .This cyst is formed due to blockage of Bartholin’s gland leading to formation of a fluid-filled cyst. A Bartholin's cyst is not an infection, although it can be caused by an infection, inflammation, or physical blockage to the Bartholin's ducts .

Avatar m tn 2 months ago i decided to have 2 new crowns for my front teeth for cosmetic reasons (#8 already post crown with RCT 15 years back). I am 39 years old. Following the crown procedure (2 weeks after) i experienced intermittent pain in the previously healthy tooth (#9) and had to embark on 3 weeks of treatment / draining etc. due to abscess formation. The tooth was left 'open' for 2 weeks during this time to to the infection which eventually subsided.

1356258 tn?1277664250 We found 2 stray kittens almost 3 weeks ago. They had eye infections (swollen/red around eyes, so much gunk that eyes were matted shut, upper respiratory) and the vet gave them eye ointment and oral antibiotics for 2 weeks (they finished 2 days ago) and seem to be better except for the occasional sneeze (the other one might be squinting a little today). I am not sure if it was bacterial or viral, but my husband and myself caught it, and the antibiotic eye drops have helped.
Avatar n tn An abscess need not have a typical round shape. The acute presentation is very much in favour of abscess but may need Incision and drainage if it does not settle.
Avatar f tn If you doubt that this gauze has not come out and is placed inside you may need to see your dentist. This gauze piece can act as a focus of infection and lead to abscess formation. Treatment can be decided only after a dental examination. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
