Abscess boil on gums

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess boil on gums

abscess

Avatar n tn What can happen is that the nerve inside a tooth can die and abscess leading to drainage into the gums which creates the gum boil. It might bleed and can be purulent (pus releasing) or not. The other situation is if there is a localized area of severe periodontitis (gum disease). That can also result in a gum boil. The dentist will check out the area, take an xray and be able to tell you what can be done, either possibly a root canal ,deep scaling/curettage, extraction, referral, etc.

Avatar f tn Hello, It could be a boil or an abscess. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin. Apply warm compresses on the boil and keep the area clean. Drainage of the boil is done only when it becomes soft and forms a head.
Avatar n tn Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicle while a boil or skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Avatar m tn 3 days ago I competed in a bicycle race (not sure if this is connected to my situation) and a few hours after the event I noticed a small lump on my buttocks quite close to my anus. It was soar to the touch but otherwise no bother. The next morning when I woke up it doubled in sized. By the afternoon it grew to about 2 inches in length and 1 inch wide. It is firm to the touch and seems to be located a little bit under my skin but not so deep that I can not feel it well.
Avatar f tn Could be a boil, abscess, or canker sore. It can't be diagnosed from a picture. If it persists or grows, you'll need to see a dentist. If it's an abscess, antibiotics will be required.
Avatar n tn t a big deal. If the boil is large enough or is starting to form into an abscess, your doctor will first numb the boil and the surrounding area and then make a small incision to allow the pus to drain. The incision is then usually packed with gauze and an antiseptic to allow further drainage. In the meantime, till you see your doctor, use warm damp compresses for 20 minutes three to four times a day as it may help draw the boil out. Take care....
Avatar n tn I had an abscess on my gums. I started on keflex and scheduled a root canal ASAP. After the root canal and finishing the keflex the abscess was still there. My endontist downplayed it like it's no big deal but he drained the abcess and put me on clymdamycin. Finished all the clymdamycin and the abscess is still there. Endontist says it could take months to heal and sent me on my way. I feel like I need a second opinion. I still have a pea sized abscess on my gums idk what to do.
Avatar f tn Hi A, If its a boil you may need to wait till it gets a head on it, I found this little bit of info, it may help you. •Over a course of 2 days to 3 weeks the boil becomes necrotic and develops into an abscess. It ruptures and discharges pus and often a core of necrotic material. Pain subsides as pressure is reduced, and the redness and oedema diminish over days to weeks. Do hope this helps you.
Avatar n tn I noticed a small pimple like thing on my upper gums last week, it has poped twice but filled back up again like a pimple you would get on your face, it was painfull the first couple of days but is no longer painful.

Avatar n tn Yesterday I noticed a redish purple spot on my upper gums. It is not painful, just kind of ugly. I don't remember hurting it in any way. I brush and floss regualrly, and have also been to the dentist in the past few months. Is this something to be worried about? Or just wait for it to go away? I'm away at school, so my dentist is about an hour and a half away.
Avatar m tn There were a few things that could of caused this but about a month before I had a HUGE abscess on the back of my leg right on my *** cheek. The urgent care doctor I visited seen it was one of the worst he had ever seen, gave me a shot and medication to take and within 4-5 days it wasn't bothering me anymore but there is still a red bump where it happened. I am very concerned with my nose as it is really starting to hurt and it seems to be getting more swollen as the day progresses.
Avatar f tn I have a boil on my panty line. How do I get rid of this? No, I don't have any STD's. It's very painful and my underwear just keeps rubbing it. Please, any suggestions? Antibiotc ointment?

Avatar m tn If there is no broken skin, you can apply magnesium sulphate paste to draw the boil/abscess to surface. You can purchase this from the pharmacist. The SULFA that your PCP gave you may be the same. It is a drawing ointment, but needs to be used as directed and it can take quite some time for the abscess to surface. You do not say for how long you have been applying the SULFA and now that the spot looks purple, I suggest you see your PCP again to examine the spot.
Avatar n tn i have what looks like a white head or pimple on my gums above my front left tooth. i pushed my nail against it and the top of it cam off leaving a little red blood spot. does anyone know what this is and what causes it.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar m tn I've had an abscess or boil on my upper back between my spine and shoulder blade that doesn't seem to be coming to a head but instead drying up or being reabsorbed into the skin. It's about 1 - 2 cm in diameter, pink and a little soft (can feel some fluid inside) but not painful and not getting larger or smaller and I'm having what seems like muscular shooting pain up my neck and down my spine on that same side.
Avatar f tn my grand mother has a very painful boil inside her vagina it is so bad that it causes her to faint sometimes from the pain please help us if you know what this is because doctors in uganda a just telling her to get it cut out without telling her what it is.
Avatar n tn Hello, Since you have not mentioned any other symptom, from your symptoms however I would like to rule out the possibility of a boil. A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. Apply warm compresses on the boil and keep the area clean. Drainage of the boil is done only when it becomes soft and forms a head. You can apply Neosporin till that time.
