Common Questions and Answers about Abscess boil painful

abscess

Avatar f tn Hello, Ingrown hair or boil also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin. Apply warm compresses on the boil and keep the area clean.
1219288 tn?1266694789 went to the ER this morning because Boil Had gotten bigger and PAINFUL!!! IT WAS exactly in the same area as the last one. meaning that it was not completely lanced the first time. DO YOU THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE CONTINUED TO SEE A PCP??? LOL.. JUST wondering!!! just do not think that would have helped considering that the PAIN WAS BEYOND INTENSE!!!
Avatar n tn It never fails, I feel the boil start, I predict the UTI, boil gets really painful, sometimes I get a fever, I get a headache, kidney aches, I am continuously tired, I see doctor, then I get put on an antibiotic. I have NOT been hospitalized for this or any infection. I have had ultrasounds, MRI, bladder scope, blood tests, urine tests….medical bills keep stacking up, but I still have the problem.
Avatar m tn I've had an abscess or boil on my upper back between my spine and shoulder blade that doesn't seem to be coming to a head but instead drying up or being reabsorbed into the skin. It's about 1 - 2 cm in diameter, pink and a little soft (can feel some fluid inside) but not painful and not getting larger or smaller and I'm having what seems like muscular shooting pain up my neck and down my spine on that same side.
Avatar f tn Ok I've had this bump thing on my vagina for like 2 days and its so painful I cnt walk sit or lay down its gotten so huge my husband tried to pop it but I think it made it worst cuss its bigger but this pain is unbearable. I called doc today couldn't work me in til Monday afternoon Now if I go to the hospital would the lance it or pop it or something I cnt take this pain, its actually causing me to cramp a lot today too. Idk why tho.
Avatar n tn I just recently had another MRI which showed no abscess present but a mild broad based disc bulge at L3-4 and L4-5. Could this be related to the abscess? I had an MRI about two days after the site was lanced the first time since they were concerned about meningitis. Also, are epidural abscesses very common? What is the main cause of them? I had an unbelievable uneventful pregnancy but this has really made me question whether I want to have another child.
Avatar n tn But, as soon as I got over to the regular hospital, they did the correct surgery and took all the necessary measures in making me more comfortable and abscess free. Surely, you half of you must know how painful it is, especially one that size, I wish you all the best. The point I'm getting at, my lump appeared suddenly and grew in size and more painful very very quickly, at that point, I'd advice you to get to the hospital!
Avatar n tn About a week and a half ago I started to develope a lump, redness, and pain just outside the crease of my right thigh. Over the weekend it progressively got larger, developed a whitehead, and started draining pus/blood on its own (DO NOT try pushing, sqeezing or poking with a needle on your own).During this time it was VERY painful and hard to walk, sit or get comfortable. Once that finished, there was blood, lots of it, but this is normal (I of course did not know this and began to panic).
Avatar f tn my grand mother has a very painful boil inside her vagina it is so bad that it causes her to faint sometimes from the pain please help us if you know what this is because doctors in uganda a just telling her to get it cut out without telling her what it is.
Avatar f tn I have a boil on my panty line. How do I get rid of this? No, I don't have any STD's. It's very painful and my underwear just keeps rubbing it. Please, any suggestions? Antibiotc ointment?
Avatar n tn About three or four months ago, I developed (what I believe to be) a boil on my nose, on one side, over the nostril. It was painful, but with warm compresses it finally surfaced and drained after 2-3 days. The swelling went down - about 90-95% - but it appears it never totally went away - and I have this swollen area there now, where the boil had been - about 1cm wide and 2cm in length, and perhaps 1mm high; running parallel to the bridge of my nose.
Avatar n tn She asked ME what it was! At that time it was not painful except when rubbed, so I had no idea that it was even there. The next day, the bump developed a "white head" that was about 2-3mm in diameter. Still no pain. I soaked in a warm bath and a couple days later it "popped" and is now an open soar. Currently the only pain I have is when it is rubbed or I get urine in it. I have several concerns. 1) What is this?
462083 tn?1206620211 The doctor here, after seeing it, she immediately it's an abscess. She cleaned the area, which I must say OMG, was that PAINFUL!!! She also took a culture sample of it. I am expected to go in for an IV infusion in the morning. I will keep you updated!
Avatar m tn ) When I touch it, it feels soft/puffy as though there's some fluid under it (same as a gum boil) and it's no longer hot/painful, just itchy sometimes. I'm also getting shooting pain up my neck and don my back in the same area, which feels like it could be muscular, but could a small abscess cause this kind of pain without being very large (possibly spreading?) and should I be concerned since I can't see my doctor for another 2 weeks. I have no experience with skin infections like this.
Avatar n tn gave me some cream to put on it so that did help for a while but to this day, almost 2 years later, I still have problems with that same boil/abscess! But who knows? Maybe it's just that particular surgeon...some family members tell me they don't think he did a good job for me to be still having problems 2yrs later. Then, a while back, 2 boils popped up, 1 under each armpit so I decided not to return to the same dr.
Avatar n tn So that went away and Now I have this HUGE boil the size of a dime and extremely painful on my clit skin. I'm in so much pain I can barely walk, it's a constant excrutiating, torturing pain. Sitting, standing, even laying down will not make it go away that's how sensitive it is. I don't know what to do to alleviate it or make the pain go away. I just pray it pops on it's own soon because I don't know how much longer I can take this. Any suggestions??
Avatar n tn i'm getting abscesses on pubic region. They are extremely painful.. this is the first time that i'm getting them. what best can i do to get rid of them as soon as possible?? This discussion is related to Bumps In Pubic Area.
2130859 tn?1336036048 I noticed last night after itching down there, i felt a pea sized hard knot, and i was wondering if anyone knows what causes these and what i need to do to get rid of it. Sex has really been painful since my hysterectomy last year, so i thought the yeast infections were caused from the hysterectomy and not having the hormones i used to have, please help, do i need to go back to the gynecologists office, or should i just let it pop on its own?

Avatar n tn and gave me antibiotics (oral) and topical. I took these just as prescribed but within two days i got a painful boil on inner thigh, it had a black dot in the center of it. I went back to doctor and he said to continue taking antibiotics and come back if it gets worse. It got better, and about one week after finishing the antibiotics the same thing occurred.
Avatar f tn Hello, It looks like a boil or an abscess. Apply warm compresses, Neosporin ointment and calamine lotion and avoid messing with it. You can take anti-inflammatory pain killers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Also you may need oral antibiotics and incision and drainage. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn I have 2 boil like bumps on my inner thy. One is very large, roughly half inch wide and about an inch long. It's been there for about a year. Sometimes the inflammation goes down and you can hardly notice it, other times like now, it's buldging from the skin, pink/purple in color. But it's rarely painful unless pinched when I sit(I have big thys) or am walking a lot more than normal. I've got no idea what could be causing it.

Avatar m tn Hi umphlove You have met 4 criteria, when you need to seek medical attention for a boil. 1. The boil is on your face. 2. It is very painful. 3. You have a severe headache. 4. The color of the skin has turned red The boil is actually caused by an infection(likely staph) on the skin and the boil itself is not contagious, however, the infection can spread to other areas of your skin or to other people by contact. So please be careful.
Avatar m tn If it gets bigger, if the pain gets worse, if you have spreading redness and warmth, if you start feeling sick or develop a fever, you need to get yourself to a doctor or hospital for some urgent medical treatment. A pimple or boil can turn into an abscess and believe it or not, these infections can also get into your blood which can be life threatening -- keep an eye on this thing and don't hesitate to see a doctor if you are concerned or it persists.
Avatar f tn You clearly do have some form of infection. Could be a boil or an abscess which may require lancing and a course of antibiotics. Of course, the problem with it being at the back of your thigh is that you are not able to see it properly. The other symptoms may have no connection with your thigh lump, but still mention them to the doctor. It is very likely that the headache with the blood in the nose is likely to be a sinus infection.
Avatar n tn The lump could be due to inflammation of the temperomandibular joint, an abscess, a boil or a cyst. It could also be an inflamed lymph node. Since you also have dizziness, this could be due to TMJ. Please consult your PCP and get this evaluated. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn hi i first got this lump 2 years ago when i was pregnant which then went down when i had the baby. Im 24 weeks pregnant and lump has come back bigger and very painful, doctor said was a cyst checked me boobs found no lumps and gave me antibiotics which didnt help at all. im very worried as this lump is getting bigger and more painful and if it is left can it turn into something more serious?
