t much, but my understanding this drug is only officially approved a last-ditch antidepressant for those for whom nothing else worked. I assume there are good reasons for this limited approval. (Keep in mind doctors can use these meds for anything they want once they're approved, but knowing what they're approved for gives some information on what studies showed). As to that particular side effect, any drug that affects the brain can make one sedated or the opposite, overstimulated.
I was on abilify along with effexor for about 6 months. I didnt have any side effects from it but it didnt do any good for me either so I got off it. It was really expensive too! Even with my insurance it still cost $90! If its working for you thats great! And you really arent supposed to drink while on anti depressants! It can make depression worse and alter the effect of the anti depressant. EVeryone reacts differently but I choose not to drink while on them! Best of luck to you!!!!
Within 2 days of going from 90 to 120mg and abilify she has been symptom free for 10 months. She went from barely functioning to totally normal. No symptoms gastro or other for 10 months. It is amazing. It has been great. Then 4 weeks ago my 12 year old started with severe headaches, nausea and stomach aches. Which is exactly how my older one started. We already have started her on the meds. So here is exactly what my older daughter is on.
AM- Fludrocortisone .
Abilify is actually an antipsychotic drug that has anti-depressant properties. Usually Abilify is used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and as an adjunct therapy (add on therapy) for major depression. The treatment prescribed depends on your psychiatrist’s assessment of your case. However, the dose prescribed is the lowest for the drug.
Treatment for depression usually begins with a low dose of SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Some doctors prescribe benzodiazepines too.

i cant go school well. i cant stay in classroom. even i cant go to school. i always want to stay at home. i am out of my home, i quickly want to go back my house. also i smoke 3 packet cigarette in a day. also i have serious sleep disorder.
i explained my problems to my doctor. then he gave me wellbutrin and abilify combination. what do you think about it?
I was on various doses of Abilify for the last 6 months. My med shrink was convinced this was the med for me. I kept having reactions to it and I finally put my foot down and said, "NO MORE." The last reaction was severe pain in my jaw radiating on the left side of my face and down to my neck and shoulder. It was excruciating! I saw my primary doc who diagnosed Trigeminal Neuralgia and prescribed Gabapentin.After 2 days of being on Gabapentin, the pain was gone! NO MORE ABILIFY!!!
My 15 year old daughter was symptom free after I researched and found the right meds for her after a 1 1/2 years totally disabled to symptom free. That was until two girls at her school attacked her and all symptoms came back. It was 5 weeks. She is now 6 days totally symptom free after upping the abilify. Again just like before for Amanda and also my 12 year old she went from totally symptomatic non stop to totally symptom free. It again has been a miracle.
All of the atypical antipsychotics, like Abilify, can cause weight gain, although some are less likely to. That drug class is known for it. Lamictal is an anticonvulsant, and a lot of those (except for depakote) are weight neutral. I don't think you have anything to worry about in the weight department.
Make sure to take your Lamictal exactly as prescribed.
Need input on coming off depakote. Currently taking 750 mg x 3 daily. I USED to have seizures due to a stroke, but I have been seizure free for a year. I am on 30 mg of abilify & 200 mg of lamictal. I want to come off the depakote due to weight gain & memory loss/confusion. My Neurologist has given her approval, but I do not want a manic episode at all. Can you help?
My son who has been diagnosed as bipolar 3 yrs ago at age 29 is on 100 mg Lamictal and 3 mg of Rispedal. Is otherwise symptom free and functioning at a high level (prestigious work & economically) but in spite of his young age and great looks/gifts he seems to have lost the zest and wonderment for life.

I felt compelled to write you. My 9 year old son started an eye blinking tic at 3 and was diagnosed with Tourette's at 4. His vocal tic was also throat clearing. Since then, he has also had a "humming" tic, but that's it for the vocals so far.
In our case diet does make a difference. Our son's tics worsen when he is tired or stressed. Therefore we try to make everything as steady as possible for him.
My insurance has a $200.00 co-pay for Abilify and I am 68 years old and on medicare. I just cannot afford this but it worked so well for me in the past. At this time my Dr gave me some samples but they are almost gone. After 6 days of taking Abilfy everything kicked in and I was able to function again.
I have been on Abilify for about 3 months now, and it is currently the only medication I am on. It has worked wonders for my anxiety, and has helped somewhat with my depression.
I can now socialize with ease whereas before I just had too much anxiety to deal with any social situations. Abilify has definitely made me more easygoing.
