Abilify and restlessness

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify and restlessness

526311 tn?1229289930 Abilfy made me really anxious, restlessness was throught the roof I couldn't sit still! I had worse panic attacks and I lost a depressive amount of weight in a very short period of time, it made me absolutely insane. I had to take benedryll for 1 week at max doses and sometimes overdosed because I was so anxious, I did pushups in my doctors office because I couldn't sit still. I obviously reacted terribly to the drug, how are you doing on it?
Avatar m tn My 3 year old daughter is due to switch from Risperdol to Abilify this week (has autism and possible schizophrenia or bipolar with hallucinations) and I am wondering what side effects you found to be most bothersome. ***Please don't comment about her age unless you are familiar with early pediatric antipsychotic use. I am well aware of how absurd it sounds and no, I am not crazy and neither is her doctor.
Avatar n tn There is a connection with taking Abilify and acne .
Avatar n tn Just wanted to chime in that my mom has chronic leg cramps, and she takes abilify and she used to take seroquel, but the leg pain seems to be chronic and when her leg cramps are really bothering her, it really takes away from her day. The only thing that seems to work is having somebody massage the legs, to get rid of the muscle stiffness... that seems to work better than ibuprofen.
712802 tn?1274649085 Hi, I am on Zoloft and Abilify and I am doing great. I know everyone is different but Abilify really made a difference for me for both my anxiety and depression.
440120 tn?1211728096 I took abilify and it caused me bad anxiety and restlessness
Avatar f tn I've taken it once before but had to stop due to extreme restlessness. I have RLS really bad anyway and it made it 100 times worse and all the time. I'm hoping that I don't have the same reaction this time. I started taking it again because I don't sleep. Absolutely can't. At all! Drives me crazy. Dr gave me Depakote to try but was not helping me sleep but was making me very sleepy all day.
899491 tn?1243777227 I know Abilify like all antipsychotics can cause anti-cholinergic side effects (although less so then other antipsychotics) which include dry mouth and urinary retention. Sometimes some of the side effect pills used to treat the motor restlessness from it such as the anti-cholinergics (Cogentin, Artane, etc.) can make that worse. That might be one cause but generally its not so severe. Your psychiatrist should be able to explain what happened though.
1700643 tn?1464850282 I take an AD along with Abilify. Within a week after Abilify was added I started to feel better. Right now I take 15 mg but I have taken as much as 30mg. I did get akathisia from it (restlessness ) but added propranolol which stopped it. Akathisia is a common side effect.
297937 tn?1309387462 I'm ready to die from this restlessness and anhedonia. I'm on lexapro and abilify.
571167 tn?1223218065 Another long day again. I am still tired from the abilify but i can feel the restlessness coming on. Pretty crazy huh? Hope it keeps on working. Its working thou not yellin and freakin out as much!!!!!
6757907 tn?1385105865 Trazadone, HydroOXYzine and Abilify. I was going crazy. So I stopped them cold turkey, but I feel they affected my nervous system tremendously. I feel I have a lot of fear, especially of having more panic attacks, so that always keeps me on my toes. And then I also have a lot of anxiety during my sleep and have woken up many times with horrible panic attacks and feeling that my mind is not "all there".
571167 tn?1223218065 def seroquel. Abilify can cause long term brain and muscle effects that are irreversible. . Read up on abilify withdrawl. Good luck!
Avatar n tn //www.iddb.org/drugs/abilify/ - Consumers talk about abilify and their reactions. While reading up on these drugs, Abilify has many dangerous and possibly life-threatening side-effects. Read this: Side Effects of Abilify The following are the risks and potential side effects of Abilify therapy. However, this list is not complete. Increased chance of death in elderly persons.
2211548 tn?1517715964 it isnt becaus i still need the abilify . and when i lower the does because of restlessness i can feel it . i can feel that zest that kept me from freaking out fading & i get so nervous i tremble & cant speak straight. i have clonazepam & propranolol for the restlessness. hopefully it helps tonight.
571167 tn?1223218065 I do not believe the medications the medical community has place him on are worth the side-effects. They placed him on Levetiracetam, Benztropine, and Abilify, and the side-effects are NOT worth the potential benefit of what--self-control? I have worked with youth in placement for 18 years, and these medications do not make any significant difference in their judgments because they do not change their value system.
12043143 tn?1423155065 30 years ago I was DX with depression, then I started feeling like I was ADD a few years thereafter. 15 years ago was given script for Prozac which worked okay and not fabulously, but that was then. 4 years ago was given Pristiq for depression and loved, loved, loved that until I lost my medical insurance for two years. 9 months ago was being treated for ADHD - Predominantly ADD and given a script for Adderall which didn't help and 225 mg/day of Effexor.
2211548 tn?1517715964 also yesterday i had my appointment with the pdoc...the abilify caused restlessness and freak outs so he gave me propranolol for the restlessness. but i suggested i go back down to 5mg, and he aggreed. we started lamictal and adderall , he told me to start adderall days later but i need it now, cant focus, cant relax...and now here i am at work focused and relaxed. so im on the cocktail that he we agreed upon.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks, and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.
2211548 tn?1517715964 but i am really going to need/ miss the clonazepam and adderal,. even though i have propranolol to help calm my restlessness - i dunno if it is enough...i hope so. just til the end of the month. which is tomorrow actually update i was able to get my rx for adderall and abilify, what i really needed, flr cheaper than expected. i think i will be able to weather work tonight. i think i can do it, because for a minute there i was losing it.
Avatar n tn The depression lifted and I had more energy than ever, (although mentally i was still in a fog). That lasted about a month and I got of the abilify cause of bad restlessness in my legs.It felt so good to not be depressed and then it came back. I started the abilify again incase stopping it is wat made the deppression come back but it has been two weeks now and it is not helping, I am right back to being the way I was all my life. Any ideas out there.
822153 tn?1333066595 I am suffering from depression and anxiety. I have chronic pain which only contributes to my depression and anxiety. I'm surrently on 300 mg. of generic Wellbutrin, 50 mg. of Pristiq, 2.5 mg. of Abilify and Sroquel as needed evry 6 hours for anxiety. I'm not "right"...still depressed; still anxious and can't calm down. The Seroquel is new (Friday), same with Abilify (Friday also). Generic wellbutrin has been years on that.
Avatar n tn I experienced Alzheimer's like side effects (confusion and severe memory loss) while on Cogentin where I had to be taken off of it and my psychiatrist at the time stated it can "slow down the mind". This is of course different for each person however.
599945 tn?1240385954 Yes you would mind death being a side effect. If you feel that way you have suicidal ideations. You really need to speak to someone. And regardless L-Tryptophan doesn't work. I know what's in clinical study and proven to be potentially helpful and its not one of them. So if it won't do you any good and its dangerous there is no point in taking it. From what you are describing you had akathesia, "an inner feeling of restlessness" from the Abilify.
Avatar f tn Increases in blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia), in some cases serious and associated with coma or death, have been reported in patients taking ABILIFY and medicines like it Lightheadedness or faintness caused by a sudden change in heart rate and blood pressure when rising quickly from a sitting or lying position (orthostatic hypotension) has been reported with ABILIFY. ABILIFY and medicines like it can affect your judgment, thinking, or motor skills.
Avatar m tn so we can talk about this condition. and discuss what we can do about it and what treatments are available for it. is anyone interested?
575214 tn?1218043960 But he's on two antipsychotic as well (Seroquel, Abilify). I have schizoaffective disorder and generally did not need more than one antipsychotic. Did they diagnose any form of psychosis in him? Benzotropine is a side effect pill. It is used to stop motor restlessness in antipsychotics but if he is experiencing that that may contribute to the problem. I take Clonidine in patch form.
585414 tn?1288944902 But with many of these medications (a standard one was Seroquel, which I took in the past) if I take it too late in the day I feel the effect too much (cognitive confusion, motor restlessness) and if I take it too early it doesn't work and I am manic during the day. But as the specific medications are sedating both doses have to be slept off so it is hard to fix the time. Anyone have this issue? And how do you deal with it?
Avatar n tn Its just most of the medications out in the next few years (including one potential this year) are clinically similar to Abilify so they have the same effects of akathesia and long term effects of tardive dykinesia and diabetes (less of a risk than others but still on the warning label, someone I knew got it).
Avatar f tn You could try taking it in the morning because it typically keeps people awake and causes restlessness. Also, when i first started on aripiprazole (abilify) i experienced some side effects but they went away after a couple of weeks. Hopefully yours will go away as well, if they don't go away, however, talk to your psychiatrist. You don't have to deal with any unwanted side effects if you don't want to. That is what mine always tells me anyways....
