Common Questions and Answers about Abdominal hysterectomy healing time

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I had an abdominal hysterectomy 8 days ago. The stables were removed 5 days later but due to fluid build up, the surgeon recommended wet to dry dressing twice a day. The incision is now partially open ,approx 7 cm long, 3 cm deep and 1 1/2 cm wide. Is there a less painfull method of healing than packing it twice a day?
Avatar f tn And the way your hysterectomy was done would be important for guidance in terms of recovery time and if they did anything else such as any bladder work which is not uncommon during hysterectomy surgery. Anyway, I'd give your doctor a call. But lifting is a no no for a while. Exercising is good to do starting slow especially walking or whatever cardio you like. And in terms of abdominal crunches, has it been 4 to 6 weeks?
Avatar n tn I had a abdominal hysterectomy in April, because of abnormal bleeding everyday for a year and a half. It is now October and i am still having abdominal discomfort is this normal??? I used to sleep on my stomach and now when I find myself on my stomach i wake up in discomfort.
Avatar f tn Started having pains during intercourse and bleeding about 2 1/2 months ago. Had a polyp removed. Waited the healing time. Still having the pain. Went other day to get ultrasound to check ovaries. Those are ok. Dr said my bowel was dilated and to keep eye on it. It was suggested by tech I might have endo on my bowel. I am still having pain and want to know what it is from and to get it fixed. I thought after hyst. my problems would go away. I was wrong.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever had a hysterectomy that started out laparoscopic then went to abdominal? Do you have any advice for recovery ? Tips? Heads up?
Avatar n tn Please be sure to take it easy during the recommended time frame for optimal healing. It may be helpful to journal symptoms so you can discuss with your doctor.
Avatar m tn s most likely normal healing. The bloating is most likely just your body adjusting and fluids retained in the healing tissues. be patient your are only at 2 months (8 weeks) that is VERY early in the healing phase...they did ALOT of work in there! if it feels ok and you are ok'd to do exercise at this point...I would suggest gently stretching the area to keep the scar tissue pliable (yoga is how I do this and after 8 abdominal surgeries...
Avatar n tn Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I had a Hysterectomy 2 yrs ago and recently began having lower abdominal pain (right below my bladder where my pelvic bone is). I've had an Ultrasound, Cystoscopy and a CT Scan, which all came back negative. The doctor speculates that I probably have scar tissue from my Hysterectomy. I do understand that having another surgery will most likely cause additional adhesions.
Avatar f tn Hi your pain is normal, it is a 6 weeks healing time for a hysterectomy,,,it will get better each and every day .It is very very important to do nOTHING no lifting, not to many stairs, no vaccuming, no bending, twisting, or carrying anything heavier than 3-5 lbs.
Avatar f tn I wish you luck with with your operation and am glad you understand your healing time is both important and may well take longer than estimated
Avatar f tn I am 3 weeks post-op after having had a total abdominal hysterectomy with BSO. Spent 10 days in the hospital with a pretty bad post-op abdominal infection, 104 temps, large bowel ileus, vomiting, the whole gammit. Now I am home and healing, but having repeated hot flashes and night sweats. I'm finding it very hard to sleep, and along with the hot flashes are ridiculous spurts of being very quick to anger. Normally, I'm am a pretty calm person and not quick to anger.
Avatar f tn If I have a fibroid in the lining of my uterus and calcification of the uterus wall.
Avatar f tn s eleven days post op with a hysterectomy, ovary and tube removal, and a sacrocolpopexy through the davinci robotic laparoscopic method. I returned to work yesterday as an accountant and worked for six hours. Lots of abdominal discomfort last night, some pressure, and what appeared to be some blood in my urine (pinkish color). My family thinks I'm pushing it. What do you think.
Avatar m tn I am a female age 44yrs. and I had a hysterectomy in Nov 2010. An associate said that due to the lack of certain hormones present after a hysterectomy it may hinder or slow the process of healing of broken/fractured bones. Is this true?
Avatar m tn Its been two months since I had a full hysterectomy and I am still bloated and having pain and discomfort in the upper part of my abdomen just below the belly button. Avatar f tn I have requested a vaginal hysterectomy in an effort to expedite healing time. My Dr wants to take my ovaries. I am 40 with 3 children - and have no itention to have more. I had a tubal ligation in 2000, and an endometrial ablation in 2010. The ablation only partially worked. I have very light periods, but tremendous pain. My Dr recommends a total hysterectomy due to andometriosis. My maternial grandmother had uterine cancer and had a hysterectomy before 40.
Avatar n tn Has anyone experienced this? I had a total adominal hysterectomy 8 weeks ago. Recovery went generally well, but about 4th week I began to have sharp needle type pain, tingling, sensitivity to touch on my stomach above the incision. Also, pressure and pain on the lower right side of my stomach. I saw my dr for post op. She pretty much said she had no clue what it was. I've gone back to work now and these symtoms are painful. Any clues?
Avatar f tn Competition between several healing areas for the substrates required for wound healing impairs wound healing at all sites. L = Low temperature: The relatively low tissue temperature in the distal aspects of the upper and lower extremities (a reduction of 1-1.5°C [2-3°F] from normal core body temperature) is responsible for slower healing of wounds at these sites.
591421 tn?1219072704 Three weeks ago, I had a partial abdominal hysterectomy. The pain is EXCRUCIATING!!! The pain radiates from the left side of my abdomen to just below my belly button. I try to get out of bed, I'm doubling over in pain and I'm practically fainting from the pain whenever I stand. I've taken pain medication, however, my medicine makes me constipated. I have to take Senokot. My concerns are having to constantly take medication for bowel movement.
1043568 tn?1253450188 I am 54 years old and I was still pretty regular before the Tamoxifen. My gynecologist is recommending that I get a radical (abdominal) hysterectomy since I am still having periods. I had a D&C last year and had a benign polyp removed. Just had a trans-vaginal ultrasound 2 weeks ago and everything was fine.
Avatar m tn For quite a few years, I get extremely nauseous, light-headed and dizzy in showers. Well, tonight, I had a shower because I was so cold but I started to get this severe abdominal pain. (I am ftm-transgender, but I still have my female parts, so I'll continue with this->) Its right above where the uterus would be. That entire area is constantly bloated and rock hard. When the pain got worse, so did the hardness of that area, which was odd. And my lower back hurt really badly, too.
Avatar m tn Yoga is normally seen to be a good exercise to do when you have POP and even after healing fully from a POP op but no positions that increase abdominal pressure are seen as advisable as these will put pressure on your op site etc., For example, planking or stomach crunches are out.
Avatar f tn Most people actually do have complications with an abdominal cut hysterectomy, and laporoscopy.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy removing the uterus, one ovary and my cervix on December 31st 2014. On January 14, 2015, I began to leak urine excessively. I went to my doctor and he said it wasn't urine and the I had ripped stitches causing fluids to leak. I was scheduled for surgery to repair the damages on January 15. I awoke to find that what was supposed to be an outpatient procedure had turned into a full abdominal surgery while I was knocked out.
