Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy healing scar

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn Hysterectomy wounds can sometimes separate superficially, like yours did. If this happens in my patients, I generally go to once daily wet to dry dressing changes, but some surgeons prefer twice daily changes. The wound slowly heals from the bottom up. Depending on your skin type, the healed scar may be slightly larger (wider) than if your incision healed without the dressing changes. Dr.
566073 tn?1219434819 I had a horizontal incision, bikini to belly button only 7 wks ago, this was to remove large oc tumour I am being reopened on the same scar for my full hysterectomy, is this going to be heaps worse?????
Avatar n tn The doctor speculates that I probably have scar tissue from my Hysterectomy. I do understand that having another surgery will most likely cause additional adhesions. I'm wondering if I DON'T have the surgery, will the suspected adhesions cause me any future serious problems in that area? Or, should I have surgery because the adhesions could in fact cause problems? I'm confused and don't know what to do.
Avatar m tn s most likely normal healing. The bloating is most likely just your body adjusting and fluids retained in the healing tissues. be patient your are only at 2 months (8 weeks) that is VERY early in the healing phase...they did ALOT of work in there! if it feels ok and you are ok'd to do exercise at this point...I would suggest gently stretching the area to keep the scar tissue pliable (yoga is how I do this and after 8 abdominal surgeries...
Avatar n tn I just had hysterectomy 7 weeks ago.
Avatar n tn I had a abdominal hysterectomy in April, because of abnormal bleeding everyday for a year and a half. It is now October and i am still having abdominal discomfort is this normal??? I used to sleep on my stomach and now when I find myself on my stomach i wake up in discomfort.
Avatar f tn I am sorry for what you have gone through. I had a hysterectomy at a much older age (49) and I would highly discourage it. It has caused a whole list of problems. The uterus has life long, non-reproductive functions - anatomical, skeletal, hormonal, and sexual. The ovaries are also important our whole lives and if you have your uterus removed, there is a good chance that your one remaining ovary will fail due to loss of blood flow.
Avatar n tn Has anyone experienced this? I had a total adominal hysterectomy 8 weeks ago. Recovery went generally well, but about 4th week I began to have sharp needle type pain, tingling, sensitivity to touch on my stomach above the incision. Also, pressure and pain on the lower right side of my stomach. I saw my dr for post op. She pretty much said she had no clue what it was. I've gone back to work now and these symtoms are painful. Any clues?

Avatar m tn I am a female age 44yrs. and I had a hysterectomy in Nov 2010. An associate said that due to the lack of certain hormones present after a hysterectomy it may hinder or slow the process of healing of broken/fractured bones. Is this true?
442027 tn?1209866342 s my muscles contracting and everything healing from surgery. This morning I was completely swollen like I would be by the end of the day if not worse than usual. She also told me that it's our bodies way of protecting itself to build up fluid for protection during healing. Just wondering if anybody else out there can relate to what I'm experiencing. Also........ What do you all say is the BEST SCAR medicine to use????? Wondering what the winner will be.
Avatar n tn I had a surgeon explain it to me like this ,,they go in try to clean up as much scar tissue as posible and their goal is that you or any patient would be 75% less scar tissue. A general surgeon could do this , as could your gyno or even a cosmetic surgeon which may be a good one to atlest interview..
Avatar n tn Only diagnosis is by laproscopy and treatment is cutting the adhesions. Scar tissues can also result in adhesions. However absence of scar tissue does not mean that there are no adhesions. However these adhesions recur and cutting the adhesions can cause more adhesions to form. Hence a judicious decision is required regarding the approach to be taken. Certain herbs and mucolytic enzymes have been tried with variable success rates for this. Do discuss with your doctor. Take care!
620923 tn?1452915648 I have had several surgeries in the past, not decompression though and the best scar cream I have found was called mederma. My scars are minimal, especially the one from my hysterectomy (they had to cut across my abdomen). You can also contact a dermatologist, they may be able to give you another option if you can't find the mederma. Also scar healing depends on the tyoe of skin you have and my take sometime to get smaller/thinner looking. Glad to see you back and doing well..
Avatar f tn Competition between several healing areas for the substrates required for wound healing impairs wound healing at all sites. L = Low temperature: The relatively low tissue temperature in the distal aspects of the upper and lower extremities (a reduction of 1-1.5°C [2-3°F] from normal core body temperature) is responsible for slower healing of wounds at these sites.
Avatar f tn Was your surgery open or lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy? Mine was open and I had the bloat for a good 8 weeks, and it still got worse after that. As it turned out, I had massive scarring (adhesions) from the surgery and lost a couple feet of colon as a result. If you're having any bathroom issues along with the bloating, make sure you tell your doctor about it. Adhesions are less common with the laparscopic procedure, but not unheard of.
Avatar f tn Has anyone experienced burning and sensitivity around the wound site, even though the wound seems to be healing well. Nothing was explained to me on discharge and I am 2 weeks post op and want to know whether this is normal or not. Please help!
Avatar f tn So the end is in sight ! Exactly three weeks to go with a schedule d c-section. .getting nervous and scarred because this is my fourth cut and they keep telling me its possible I will need a hysterectomy if they can't close my uterus due to scar tissue! Anyone have 4 sections w/o complications?? My last c was six yrs ago and they never said anything like about me having too much scarr tissue or that I schould not have a fouth baby!!
1930941 tn?1400107522 Unfortunately there were some complications. I had a lot of scar tissue from my hysterectomy and the surgery lasted 3 1/2 hours and the surgeon nicked my bowel. Because of the "nicking" which is really a laceration, I cant eat solid foods until next Tuesday, and pain and recovery time are worse. I just got home from the hospital, and feel like crap. My spirits are high, but so is the pain. Without much of a choice, I agree to take the pain meds at home. If I didn't, the Dr.
Avatar f tn i had a hysterectomy 7 years ago and 1week after surgery my stomach broke open they did not put a drainage tube inwhen had operation they reopened me in the doctors surgery and took a swob found septisiemia.thenleft site opened had five more operations on hysterectomy site to remove septis and left me opened each time to heal inside out i am still interriable crippling pain bloat like i am 6\7 months pregnant.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy in Aug. 2009. on the third day, the incision broke open (no infection) starting on the left side, but the wound leaked a lot for 3 weeks , then it took about 3 months for the incision to fully heal. For a while I had pain in the left side whenever I went for the prone position. That is almost all gone now. However, if I pick up a heavy object, the left side seems very sore and sensitive ( the skin seems sensitized ) and there is pain.
1135628 tn?1260548299 I had a complete Hysterectomy in 02 im 30 yrs old.And i have severe hip pain.I cant sit still for long or stand very long it hurts when I sleep or lie down I have to move alot it hurts so bad I havent took any hormones.
Avatar n tn Had a hysterectomy 7yrs ago. did not remove ovaries or fallopian tubes. Starting to have lots of pelvic pain again. Will I have to have them removed eventually?
Avatar f tn I have DIE (deeply infiltrated) endometriosis even after my complete hysterectomy because a hysterectomy is not a cure...the endometriosis lesions/implants must be cut out by a specialist and their are very few. so I would suggest you come on over to the endometriosis board so maybe we can help you find a specialist...they actually cut the disease out...they don't burn it...they don't take organs unless absolutely necessary and most will look at your medical records for free...
