Zyrtec and thyroid

Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec and thyroid

zyrtec

Avatar f tn Symptoms are nonspecific - so often people have symptoms of both hyper and hypo --- and in many cases have not thyroid problem at all. The hashimoto's (which is what this appears to be) may be contributing to the hives and often this improves with TSH normalization (even w/ normal T4). however with the "hyper" symptoms you describe, starting at a low dose of 12.5 - 25mcg per day of levothyroxine should be considered.
Avatar m tn I am now taking 2 mulitvitamins a day and 1000 IU of Vitamin D along with 6 Zyrtec and 2 Zantac and I am still breaking out every day! I have only been taking the vitamins for a week, so I am seeing if that will work eventually, but this is so frustrating! Help!!!!!
Avatar f tn Without the Zyrtec, my hives are not only unbearable but they also start to present in my throat, mouth and on my lips, so going without it is not really an option for me.
Avatar n tn I have begun to do research on my own online and have come to understand that there is a connection with thyroid and hives. What do you know about that connection?? After two months dealing with hives, I am desperate for an answer.
784382 tn?1376931040 i have been dizzy for about 4 months now, have see GP, ENT, ER and neurologist going for an MRI tomorrow to see if acoustic neuroma, ENT says he think it allergies, i have started on allergy shots this week and i started taking zyrtec, but the side effects of those pills are dizziness, seems like i cant escape it
Avatar f tn I also take my Zyrtec at that time. I just started the probiotics and was taking them with breakfast but have read that they should be on an empty stomach. That's my only real empty stomach time because of all my other stuff so now I'm concerned about them interacting with my thyroid meds. Anyone?
Avatar f tn Went to every skin Dr and they were stumped..well I just had thyroid surgery to remmove toxic nodule and half my thyroid...guess what? The rash is finally clearing up all by it self now! Yaaaaay! Tell you Dr about it and insist you get your thyroid treated..myself I recomend the surgery over the radiation. A litter more painful but much safer esp for those of us with thyroid rash!
Avatar f tn The allergist had me taper off the prednisone and put me on 100mg Allegra in the morning and 10mg Zyrtec at night. She tested me for every allergy. I came back to being allergic to nothing. We also did a blood tests for my thyroid, cancer, graves disease, and various other diseases. My thyroid levels came back normal but my auto antibodies came back high, over 400. The allergist said that its something we'll just have to monitor, watch my levels, and do 'a step by step' with drugs.
Avatar f tn Now, 4 months later, the hives are back and they are worse than ever! Nothing works, benadryl, Zyrtec, Tagamet... nothing. Can you please help me understand why my body is doing this?
Avatar f tn The allergist suspected a thyroid-related autoimmune disorder and my anti-thyroid antibody blood test (TPO AB) came back at 1374. He prescribed an Epi-Pen and recommended Loratadine twice a day, when the attacks continued, he added Zyrtec at night, but it's having no effect--still covered in hives and having big angioedema attacks every other day. He said to stay on the antihistamines. I tried to get a referral to an endocrin.
Avatar n tn I was also advised to take Zyrtec and wondered if Zyrtec had any more benefit for skin reactions thank Claritin. Claritin didn't help at all. Two dermatologists suggested Zyrtec over Claritin . I hesitate to try the Zyrtec as I took it once a few years ago and promptly feel into a deep sleep. If it is better for the skin than Claritin can it be taken at night and do any good? Your help is greatly appreciated. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn My doctor was OK with me taking zyrtec. You just have to make sure to drink lots and lots of water.
1670226 tn?1334252274 Are you on thyroid (or anti-thyroid) med? Most/many OTC meds say not to take if you take a prescription medication. You should probably talk to your doctor to find out what's recommended. Sorry, but we're not doctors and not knowing you or your exact situation, we really can't recommend anything.
681148 tn?1437661591 It seems like Akira has seasonal allergies and dust allergies in addition to her food allergies. Because I really don't want to give her long term steroids, I decided to only give her the 1/4 tablet of Zyrtec that the vet told me to give her before. I try to wait 'til I just have to give it to her, because I know that people can build up a tolerance to antihistamines, so I figure that animals can, too.
Avatar m tn Both Allegra and Zyrtec are 24 hour medications in my area. I have known several people who took 3 Zyrtec in one day, and my allergist says that you can't really OD on antihistimines. You should be sure to drink PLENTY of water and watch for signs of constipation and dehydration. You should make sure that your dr is well aware of how much of these meds you are taking to make sure that they are ok with any other medications you maybe taking.
Avatar f tn The first thing we need, in order to help you, is the most current of your thyroid lab results, which must include reference ranges, since those vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. Are you on a thyroid replacement medication? If so, which one, what dosage, and how long have you been on it? Have you been checked for Type II diabetes and/or PCOS?
Avatar m tn I'm a stay at home mom with a similar (but not exact) experience to your daughter, so take my suggestion for what it's worth. I had chronic hives since childhood. It was undiagnosed until my 20s. My new allergist said people with dermagraphism (my form of chronic hives) was frequently a side symptom of an auto-immune disease. He tested me for 6 different ones, and I came back positive for Hashimotos (my immune system attacks my thyroid).
Avatar f tn It's so great to read everyone's comments and know that I am not alone. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in May of 2009, just a few months ago, and put on a low dose of synthroid to treat it. Then in late June, I started developing hives around my sides and mid-section. Then over the past three weeks, they have covered my entire body head to toe. They are all over my face and everything. They are itchy and annoying, and I'm now experiencing some swelling on my legs as well.
689528 tn?1364135841 10mg every day for the first five days and then every other day for the next five, in addition he gets a generic Zyrtec everyday. Now he just gets a zyrtec every day, and if his allergies act up beyond the zyrtec's control, like this time of year ,he gets a prednisone per day for 3 or 4 days and then every other day for two or until things calm down. Zyrtec can be expensive, but we actually found a generic brand at the dollar store! $1. for 14 pills, so we clear their shelves!
Avatar f tn In most cases, improvement of urticaria with thyroxine replacement hormone suggests that chronic thyroid inflammation may initiate a hypersensitivity reaction and an underlying thyroid hormone deficiency. However, rarely, patients with chronic urticaria have undiagnosed conditions of Graves' disease. Researchers in the UK have reported two instances in which patients with chronic urticaria and TPO antibodies responded well to the anti-thyroid drug carbimazole.
Avatar m tn It seems appropriate to get your thyroid checked out and to also see an allergist if they continue to worsen. I take zyrtec and also use a nasal spray and a rescue inhaler. Hope you find relief!
Avatar f tn 3 years, along with Qvar, Albuterol, Singular, Zyrtec and Flonase.
