I posted this on the ENT forum too, but thought it might be appropriate here.
I am being awakened by vertigo about once a week from my sleep. The episodes last anywhere from 10 seconds to several minutes. The longer they go the more nauseous I feel. Moving makes it worse, but I can usually find a position that will make it better. It appears that lying on my back is the worst position. When I wake up, I have a low-grade headache & my neck is sore.
