Zyrtec and headaches

Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec and headaches

zyrtec

Claritin causes stomach problems, and Allegra causes headaches. I have been using Zyrtec for years now, and there are days when I take 5 or more 10mg doses to get relief. I had been using OTC sinus sprays for immediate relief, but have quit them, using only saline solution 2 or 3 times daily. SHoudl I be concerned with possible short or long term side effects of taking Zyrtec at this level?

I have been on claritin, clarinex, zyrtec and xyzal. I am continuing with zyrtec now becaue of the cost of xyzal ($200/3mo) due to my healthcare selectively removing antihistamines from the formulary. Xyzal was definitely better for me than any of the others, and I have something more than the standard statement to go with that. Last week I had an allergy test done. RAST/Interdermal type.
I use a neti pot for nasal irrigation, which helps clear out some of the allergens and pollutants. I know how overwhelming bad headaches can be; sending good thoughts your way and hopes for you finding the best way to lessen or get rid of your headaches.
With that came tension headaches. Then slowly came this light headedness feeling. On and off. When I would lay in bed and closed my eyes sometimes I'd feel like i was slightly moving or on a rocky boat. But it was manageable. My canker sores are gone. My neck and back are still hurt but not as bad. But last night I still felt a lot of bouts off off balance/lightheadedness feeling. I noticed I also have had some post nasal drip.
Does anyone know anything about valsalva headaches and POTS? Can POTS cause headaches associated with straining, coughing, head movement etc. I have googled a lot but I don't seem to find anything.
After I see the headache specialist the doctor wants me to have a full work up with an allergist and see the ENT doctor at her practice. For now I just suffer with the waves of these symptoms take a zyrtec and Bayer aspirin.. Your thoughts?
Its beginning to get on my nerves just as bad as his with these headaches. He went and had an extensive MRI last Friday again, and again, nothing showed up. Now he is already having a headache again and its been less than a month this time. Why cant they find anything to treat him. His doctor put him on Cymbalta. I thought that was for depression, not headaches and what is with take a week before headache and a week after.

Please do some research on histamine intolerance. Try a low histamine diet for at least 3 weeks. NO CHEESE, TOMATOES, CHOCOLATE, RED WINE, SPINACH, STRAWBERRIES, ETC. Try an Anti-histamine (ie. Zyrtec, Claritin, Benadryl) while dieting to see if they help. GOOD LUCK.
I have terrible seasonal allergies and it definitely affects my headaches. I am assuming you are taking something OTC; however, I encourage you to experiment with different brands. I seem to need separate drugs for some different allergies. Somedays a claritin takes care of it, sometimes a Zyrtec .. sometimes I need the added D (pseudoephedrine). Also, my doc has giving me Singulaire and Xyzal which can be helpful. Be careful and don't overload. Do some research online (pollen.
but nearly 3 months later i still get headaches for a few min to a few secs all day and these little pings and pangs. i also get pressure in my nose and forehead strain. and pain around eye brows and eyes. i know this isnt a migraine. in my quest to find out whats causing this i got allergy tested. allergies never bothered me before and i dont have the typical symptoms. doc said my allergies are bad enough to at least take a zyrtec a day.
Drink lots of water, but vicks on your temples and cold cloth over your eyes and sleep abit.
The cure I found came from my chiropractor! I mentioned it to him and even after one adjustment my headaches went away instantly and didn't come back...I was shocked because all that time and bottles of Tylenol later that was all I needed and it was much better for both the baby and myself to not have to take pills. I saw my chiropractor through out my second pregnancy and he works wonders!
What I don't understand is that, even if the headaches are associated with this back problem, why there is always an 'alcohol accompaniment' to their onset. And, in closing, I also have to stress that the headaches and flushing do not seem to be related to each other given their timings. Thank you so much again for your time and patience.
I also take advair, rhinocort, zyrtec and motrin 800mg to help with the headaches. I have 2 very large mucus retention cyst in my right maxillary sinus. They each measure over 4cm. They believe there may also be a polyp. My septum is now deviated from the cyst. I also have a thickening of the lining of the mucuosa. I am going in to see my PCP tomorrow and want to ask for a referral to see an ENT. My questions are these: 1. Do you think this warrants a visit to an ENT? 2.
constant and loud tinnitus; fog brain; lightheadedness, dizziness, and swooning; headaches; and an overall pressure or tight feeling in my head. I feel depressed and only want to sit when having these symptoms. I look forward to going to bed at night to escape living with this. Recently, I've begun to get up with a stiff neck. Some days it will wear off and some days it stays with me. I started these symptoms when I was in my mid 40's. It started with dizziness.
I went to see my Family Physician, who prescribed me Nasonex and Zyrtec, but it seems as if the Zyrtec is making things WORSE! These are the most painful headaches I have EVER experienced in my life. They are about an 9.5 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest). What should I do?
Over time the symptoms have increased to include headaches, memory loss, loss of concentration, and most recently migraine like symptoms of dizziness and nausia. i stumbled and fell recently and could not regain my balance so i finally put all these symptoms together for a trip to the doctor. She did an eeg and a ct scan to check for epileptic seizures. the results were startling to me. I have not had any significant problems with sinus or allergy suffering.
he put me on 4 allergy meds... Nasonex, Clarinex, Zyrtec, and Singulair. And also ordered allergy testing. We are attempting to solve my headache issues by allergy shots. I went for the testing and found I was allergic to just about everything they tested me for.. you know the trees, pollen, weed, etc but I am really allergic to Mold and Dog Dander. (I don't have a dog so that's no problem). My headaches often either wake me up in the night or when I wake up in the morning I have them.
I am not a doctor so I cannot provide any medical advice, although I do have migraine headaches myself so hopefully I can provide you with some information about migraine headaches. Sinus headaches are often not sinus headaches at all and are really migraine headaches, so the fact that one doctor believes they are migraine headaches and the fact that the migraine preventive provided you with some relief suggests to me that these are migraines.
In the past 2-3 years I have started getting different headaches that I assumed and was often told by physicians were from sinus infections. I assumed this since the headaches were centered near my sinus area of the forehead, they would go on for days and I would have to constantly blow my nose. Sometimes my nose would be bleeding lightly too, but no discharge. My neurologist said it's all migraine, which I'm not convinced of. ENT says it's sinus infection.
He would cough so much that he would vomit and be up all night. Finally he was put on Singular and Ventilin to control his chronic cough and allergies about 6 months ago, by a Pulminary Pediatric Doctor. The medicine was working great but now...not so much. We have since added Nebulizer treatments and have used the Ventilin pump more than 2x's a day, from 2x's a week.
My OB said I can take Benedryl, Claritin or Zyrtec (I am allergic to Claritin and Zyrtec gives me headaches so am taking Benedryl). Allegedly, Chlor-trimeton is safe until the 3rd trimester (that is what I usually take) but I decided it is better safe and sleepy with Benedryl :) My nurses' drug book lists them all as Pregnancy Category B, the same as Tylenol. Springtime in NE Oklahoma is probably as bad are Arkansas :) We've also had high winds and a lot of fires so you have my sympathy.
I have had a mild headache for 3-4 weeks combined with fullness in both ears but mostly in one ear, occasional vertigo and tinnitus. I had this 5 months ago previously and the doctor said that it was a virus. I don't believe that. She prescribed a nasal spray steroid and antibiotics (zithromax) in case it was bacterial in origin. It took 2 months to go away and now it is back. 14 years ago one ear was attacked by a herpes virus and left me slightly deaf in that ear with tinnitus.
starting in mid september i was getting headaches everyday accompanied by dizziness and light headedness for about 2 weeks. saw a doctor and he told me it was the end of an inner ear infection, he performed all sorts of tests on me and thought that the problem was definately not neurological. He told me to take zyrtec D and i did but it didnt really seem to help.

A CT scan was ordered to check for a clogged sinus cavity, I was put on zyrtec-D and sent home. My CT scan showed no sinus blockage, but indicated a possible Chiari 1 malformation. My Dr. blew it off, said that I was probably born with it, that it only shows symptoms in childhood, so I would never have any problems. After doing my own research and finding this site, I am for sure WAY more concerned. I have made another Dr. appt.
I have: seasonal allergies, eczema induced by dry/cold weather and barometric pressure changes, flushing rosacea, and ocular rosacea. This is what I do to alleviate symptoms. Keep in mind that these are chronic conditions and I can't "make them go away". Rather, I can treat the symptoms of the conditions and try to manage my outbreaks as much as possible. My treatment depends on the day. Thank God yesterday I had a day where I was about 95% symptom-free. That was AMAZING.
I will get these headaches, but they are not the fantastic type that just blow you away, i have gotten those when i was younger and would have to sleep them off, but they are just headaches, i would notice my vision would get blurry before it would happen, and the headache would come, and its just a general feeling of unease. it lasts short time, or a long time, usually when im stressed yes but couldnt it just be allergies contributing to all of this.
