Zyprexa and tremors

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa and tremors

zyprexa

Avatar_n_tn Recently I changed from litium, because of tremors, and am now taking zyprexa to prevent my hypomanic states. I heard recently that zyprexa is being used for bipolar disorder as well as for antipsychodic disorders. Is anybody else aware of this?
Avatar_n_tn Mainly the inability to sleep, no sex drive, leg tremors, and yellow fingernails. I immediately went to the doctor when seeing my nails turn yellow. My therapist suggested i may have bioplar II, hyper mania. Until I can be diagnosed by a psychiatrist, my family doctor has given me Zyprexa to take for the next three weeks, and has lowered my Zoloft to 50 mg. He stopped the Xanax, as I cannot take it with Zyprexa. I would like to know why. I smoke pot, but do not drink alcohol.

Avatar_f_tn The most common side effects for patients taking GEODON for bipolar mania include sleepiness, abnormal muscle movements (such as tremors, shuffling, and uncontrolled movement), dizziness, and restlessness. If there is any heart rhythym problem, this could be a dangerous drug for your son.
Avatar_n_tn My doctor says I might want to just go back on the zyprexa but it has really bad side effects and I gain a ton of weight on it and since my blood sugar is already high I would probably develop diabetes. Any advise? Do I just get through withdrawals (which is hell) or do I go back on zyprexa and see if it helps or go ask for something else. Anyone been in a similar situation? I'm really missing my family and haven't been able to care for my 9 month old son. Any advice would be much appreciated!
15242955_tn?1439342488 For me, definitely lithium and on zyprexa, and never with klonopin, Zyprexa caused huge weight gain for me from uncontrolled appetite, so my dr. took it off. Without lithium, it also gave me occasional, slight tremors. I was on a low dose of Zyprexa. It could also be that I wasn't too aware of tremors on Zyprexa, because I was too busy looking for food and eating.
Avatar_n_tn On the FLAIR and T2-weighted sequences, there are several foci of increased signal intensity present within the left frontal periventricular white matter. Foci of increased signal intensity are also present within the left parietal periventricular white matter, right superior frontal sub cortical white matter and right temporal sub cortical white matter. Additionally, there is a focus of increased signal intensity present within the left pons. These foci do not enhance following contrast.
Avatar_n_tn I've never been on anti-depressants but I have been on anti-convulsants which often over lap....Depakote for example... and when over medicated I did have tremors and little twitches and jerks. I would mention this to your doc next time you talk to him or her.
Avatar_f_tn i am working full time and have two children and very loving and wonderful parnter but stil battle energy levels. I would say lack of energy is the main contributing factor to alot of my behavioural issues and mental anxiety.
628714_tn?1268241796 Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors. The yawning you experience is also a rare side effect reported with Zyprexa. (Ref: http://bipolar.about.com/cs/zyprexa/a/meds_zyprexa.htm) You should consult your doctor about the side effects you are experiencing with these medications and whether or not advisable to continue with Zyprexa. Do write in about your follow up with your doctor.
607502_tn?1288251140 Im getting parasthesia (brain zaps), nausea and manic like no toomorrow - ive taken zyprexa 2 hours ago and no sleep and the 10mg of valium every day is just taking the edge off. 75mg now down from 225..
1683690_tn?1308356992 What you take both of you can be taken by any other psych illness for instance i know an asperger pt (branch of autism) who takes zyprexa and citalopram (cousin of escitalopram) a combo very suitable for BP or schizo...etc... it isn't like you take insulin thus you are diabetic. pdocs are not magicians. They don't know much and their drugs is trial and error. my modest advice for both of you, be patient with your depression. You will improve by time.

Avatar_n_tn i was off it a total of 6 days not sleeping, head foggy, irritable, and shaky. I called him and he said it would take 7 to 10 days to get out of my system. On the 6th night I had a major anxiety attack. So now I am back on the Klonopin 1/2mg every night before bed, I sleep now my head is foggy my jaws hurt and I still feel shaky inside and nervous. I want to go off this and will try again. I wish I new more about this before I went on it. i was told it was a safe drug to take.
Avatar_n_tn I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
Avatar_n_tn Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks, and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.

Avatar_n_tn Have a happy Mothers Day :) Over here Mother's Day is in March in the cold weather :) The research re seretonin levels on autopsy re schizophrenia, I'll search it out another time and post the link for you. Its scientific research, the levels are much higher than they should be and its definitely seretonin that they measured. Don't know about dopamine levels - maybe that too, but this particular reasearch was on seretonin.
Avatar_n_tn Have you had your thryoid checked? and you are on alot of meds.I take celexa and zyprexa and it works great for me I have been stable now for 7 years. talk to your doc about why you need so manymeds and get your thyroid checked as a malfunctioning thyroid will cause alot of the same symptoms.
Avatar_f_tn While I do not have personal experience with this drug I can tell you this drug is a combination drug. It contains Zyprexa (olazepine) and Prozac (fluoxetine). The Olazepine has possible adverse reactions like insomnia, dizziness, tremors, dry mouth, constipation. Avoid use of alcohol, and smoking. And Fluoxetine adverse effects can be nervousness, anxiety, insomnia, headache, nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth. There is also a drug to drug interaction with this med with Lithium.

Avatar_f_tn I had more anxiety and internal tremors after taking an antibiotic. Check you Vitamin D3 and magnesium levels for deficiencies or low normal range.
Avatar_f_tn I awoke on a Sat. morning with exceptionally fast and annoying hand tremors in my left hand. The tremors are not new but were under control. My heart was racing, I felt as if someone shook me upside down inside and it felt like a motor, a fast motor, running inside me, ie. Like a gerbil on a wheel, but I was not energetic on the outside. This happened for 4 nights and then I called my Doc. Saw him next morning and he gave me Zyprexa. That was supposed to put me to sleep.
Avatar_n_tn Hes putting me on geodon to try and get me off zyprexa and to see if i get better sleep. I am on 30 mg of zyprexa right now and life has been better, cause at one time i was on 40 mg. With all the medications I am on I still don't sleep that well. We both think I'm over medicated. The doctor says that I need to calm down and relax and wait for them to work and then he will start to slowly reduce my amounts and how much medications i am on. the objective right now is to fisrt stablize me..
675329_tn?1297291978 for all psychiatric medications in development) and when they are approved will have a better recovery rate and side effect profile than what's out there now. But as for what's available now there are still many options. That one site and some of the others on the links page could tell you more and you could discuss it with your psychiatrist. But weight gain is a very common medication side effect. It can be managed with a proper diet and generally dealt with that way.
Avatar_n_tn I was put on zyprexa 5mg and effexor 225 mg, which is a similar regime. I was able to give up the zyprexa after the year but remain on an anti depressant. It is just that my depression got so bad i went down very low + she classified this as psychotic as i never had any high or elevated mood. Hope this helps.
