Zoloft for high blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft for high blood pressure

zoloft

I have been on Zoloft now for 4 weeks and am suddenly suffering from very high blood pressure at 154/104. Could zoloft be causing this as my blood pressure was fine and has been fine consistently now for a long time.
I look back now and can see how I had some symptoms beginning to break through over the past year. I thought I was simply getting high blood pressure, or just being dizzy now and then, headaches too. Stomach upset every now and then (I have always had this). Something broke, and whatever coping mechanisms I had no longer worked.
I too take Zoloft and have gained weight. But I am more concerned with the effects on my blood pressure meds. Any thoughts?
Zoloft seems to be an odd medication for blood pressure, but is used for anxiety. I'm guessing the doctor gave it to you because the anxiety is causing the high blood pressure. I would consider talking to him about taking Ativan (Lorazepam) or Xanax (Alprazolam) instead, though.
Recently had several TIAs. Have high blood pressure that is being controlled with meds. Is it probable that I might have more TIAs anyhow?
Are you on any medication for your high blood pressure? What about your kidney function - have you had any kidney function tests done? I ask because I have kidney failure stage 2 and before I was diagnosed doctors would always ask if I was anxious - and I think I was. When I was poorly with my kidney I told them that I was feeling tight in my chest and throat and between my shoulder blades. What i'm saying is that kidney failure causes anxiety.
But the literature tell us that 140 systolic and 90 diastolic is high blood pressure. Thus, yours is lower than that and subsequently not high blood pressure. Low blood pressure can cause light-headedness, especially when you stand up quickly. Yes, anxiety can raise blood pressure and this is what is likely happening at the doctor's office. This is very common. I am not sure what sort of machine your using at home so I can't comment on your blood pressure at home.
Also, alcohol consumption has a similar effect. Stress is always on the differential for labile blood pressure. We would like our patients to have a resting blood pressure of less than 140/90, ideally, less than 120/80. Unfortunately, high blood pressure does not cause any pain or discomfort, therefore, going by how you feel is not very sensitive for knowing what effect Blood pressure will have on your body.
Like I said they did alot of test for my heart when I was 15 and it didnt show anything. And dosent my BP seem a little high for my age being that I am on 3 meds for it already.
Ok went to the psych and he wants ke to stay on zoloft and klonopin because they think it is was best for me at the moment he advised me to go to the pcp for my high blood pressure and anxious me ended up in the er there the dr told that even though it was a little bit high it wasnt for me to worry prescribed me loppresor 50mg twice a day for the blood pressure and cause my heart rate was 110 qhen i went to see him at the er.
Unfortunately, this is not the forum for you. You are probably looking for a general cardiology or high blood pressure forum (this is specifically for people with pulmonary hypertension). I will thus defer answering your questions. I will however tell you that alchol, particularly beer, can raise blood pressure. Best, Dr.
In a case like this, where anxiety in the office setting may cause a falsely elevated blood pressure recording, I order ambulatory 24 hour blood pressure recording. It is a BP recording machine that you wear for 24 hours and bring back to the office. This will yield a more accurate depiction of your true blood pressure in a variety of settings. Now to answer your specific questions: 1. Inderal is not likely having a major effect on your blood pressure.
i have been taking zoloft/prozac for 2 weeks and my blood pressure is very high. Before that it was normal. Because I was afraid it would make it chronic high blood pressure, I had no choice but to stop taking med without consulting the doctor. after stop taking, the blood pressure back to normal again. how you guys deal with the blood pressure thing?
I can no longer take my heart meds for high blood pressure and irregular hb; topomax for migraines; metaphormin; and a few others. Which I quit taking some of my meds before pregnancy because I did a lifestyle change in which it helped enough that I could quit taking the extra meds. As far as C-section...both my boys were early but big because of the diabetes (not gestational) and I could not have them natually so this is another C-section baby.
When I was a child playing football, my blood pressure was always high, like 150 to 170 systolic (can not remember the other numbers). Over the past couple of years my blood pressure has ranged from normal to just slightly higher than normal when I went to the doctor. My wife's blood pressure has always been normal or slightly below normal. Recently, she has been feeling very tired and occasionally faint. Everytime I check her blood pressure now it is around 95/50 or a little lower.
HI there! And thank you so much for all of your wonderful help in the heart community! I have suffered with panic and anxiety for 13 + years. It can be crippling to say the least. But why won't your doc give you a SSRI? I have been on zoloft for that entire time (different dosages depending on my stage in life and need) and have been blessed with it. And I know docs tend to fall back on the "its anxiety and panic" thing but your symptoms sound like those EXACTLY.
I am a big proponent of medication while you learn about your anxiety through talk therapy. If you have/had high blood pressure would you take bp medication if diet and exercise alone was not enough or if you have/had high cholesterol would you take a statin if you could not get the number down? This is no different...while you are going through this, and this helps, why not focus on learning about the anxiety while you are on it if it is working?
Hi All!Went to the doc yesterday.found out i have high blood pressure along with severe depression and G.A.D.He prescribed me a bp med and zoloft.Anyone take zoloft?if so did it help?My doc says it has a calming effect.I heard from someone else it has a speedy effect.if so i'm not taking it.I could really use some input before i waste my money to pick up my perscription.Thanx .................
Look at it this way though...if you had high blood pressure, you would take medication for it or if you had high cholesterol you would take a statin for it, right? This really is no different except that in many cases this type of medication can actually have less long term side effects. More and more studies are starting to show the long term benefits from meds like these. You seem to have a good, rational head on your shoulders. I wish you luck and continued success...keep us posted!
, i have felt really good untill this past week, i am not sleeping well, very dizzy, and a little anxious. I also take levoxyl .5 mg for thyroid disease, and zestril for high blood pressure. I am 49 years old, a little scared of zoloft after reading some of the responses. any chance prosac is better than zoloft.
and he said he would like me to go on lexapro and told me how to start to wean off of zoloft. The fears are have are, I'm scared lexapro causes high blood pressure, weight gain, and I'm scared its not going to work as well as the zoloft. Can you please help me with my problem I have been on the computer looking at all the forums about lexapro and the side effects really do scare me. Please Help.
My anxiety is very bad right now with family stuff, my son and my dad. My blood pressure is staying very high despite being on 2 BP meds. It's why I went back on the narcotics but it only helped the BP for a short time. I'm inclined to stay away from the Zoloft but would like to know what others experiences have been.
I'm not sure if Viagra is safe for anyone with high blood pressure. But I think if my blood pressure was as low as yours I would have my doctor lower or change my level of BP medicine. Lopressor/(Metoprolol) is the worst. My dad was still taking the same dose for 20 years...even though he had lost 100 pounds, quit drinking and quit smoking. I have found if you don't tell you doctor...they really don't care. Well except about their Caddy & house payment. Good Luck !!
I HAVE NORMAL READINGS OF BLOOD PRESSURE AT HOME WHEN IN A RELAXED FRAME OF MIND BUT i GOT A HIGH READING AT THE DOC. OFFICE A YEAR AGO AND THE NURSE SCARED ME,saying are you feeling okay your reading is high, I totally panicked.
We wouldn't allow ourselves to suffer with pain, diabetes, high blood pressure....so why is it okay that we should suffer with unbearable life altering anxiety? Or, think we have to "get over it" ourselves? If that was possible for a great majority of us, we would have gotten "over it" a long time ago, all on our own. You're misearable and suffering and there are things out there that could change that! Don't be a hero.....
The next day I feel light headed/dizzy all day - like my blood pressure was low. Went to be bed early (and slept), woke up and felt like the above all day. Looking to get an advise as to what this could be. Thank you and soory for an typos.
0 for about 10 minutes and my pulse went up to 130 so I felt I may be overdoing it, got off and took my blood pressure and 4 minutes after getting off it was 159/84 Pulse 81. Is that a normal blood pressure for exercising? On the bright side my blood pressure monitor isn't showing the irregular heartbeat sign and usually doesn't. I have had about three occurences of the irregular heartbeat sign in the last two months. When I go to the cardiologist they don't seem to see any irregularities.
my blood pressure was on the high side. While on zoloft, it came down to a healthy level. I attribute this to the zoloft leveling off my mood. I was calmer on zoloft, so my blood pressure wasn't elevated. I withdrew from zoloft cold turkey, and now my bloodpressure is on the higher side. It went from 114 to 130. Now that I am off of zoloft, I am more high strung, agitated and emotional charged.
