Common Questions and Answers about When will lexapro generic be available

lexapro

1801781 tn?1461629469 I am having to switch to the generic version of Lexapro as it is now available. Insurance wants the change and I am OK with it as the cost will be less. My question is has anyone been on it and can they tell a difference??
1325193 tn?1450127436 I have found the generic Lexapro to be very good, and have only heard the usual side effects that all AD's have. But you should mention this to your doctor and see what he says. This all could be from your withdrawal or a combination of both, but you need to let your doctor know what is going on, if just for your peace of mind. Good luck in getting off the Vicodin, I wish you all the best.
176495 tn?1301280412 i was also on Lexapro, but it became expensive so I am on Celexa which is a sister medication to Lexapro. Celexa has a generic called Citalopram. However, you might need to take a higher dose of Celexa if it is a good idea for you to switch. Talk to your doc to make sure.....Just my thoughts.
Avatar n tn One difference is that Celexa is available in generic form and Lexapro is not which means theoretically generic Celexa (generic form) should be less costly. Lexapro and Celexa are not interchangeable, and they are not approved for all of the same uses. Both are approved for the treatment of depression. However, only Lexapro is approved to treat anxiety.
Avatar f tn When I started Lexapro years ago it was still brand name only. When it became available in generic that's what my insurance paid for. I noticed no difference at all. Both worked well for me for a long time. It seems you've been switching meds a lot recently. Has nothing helped? I'm in the same boat as you.
Avatar n tn Not sure why your insurance company will not accept Lexapro. The cost difference between name brand Lexapro and name brand Celexa is nill.
1475202 tn?1536270977 s great medication but hard to always afford. Maybe it will someday make the $4 generic list at walmart! he he Does it work well for you too?
1475202 tn?1536270977 s good news. I think if we give more time the price will come down more. $4 generic list at wal-mart would be great for a lot of people.
Avatar f tn She said she wanted me to go ahead and move up to the 10mg of Lexapro and wrote me a script. When I go to the pharmacy to pick it up, the give me celexa and tell me that with my insurance company, lexapro has to have a pre-authorization, and that they wouldn't authorize the med until i tried to celexa 1st! So they called my doc and she said it was ok to give me the celexa.
Avatar f tn can anyone explain the difference between the brand name Lexapro and the generic brand? i was reading your posts. my boyfriend was on the brand name lexapro and switched to the chemical brand in June. since then he has been spriraling downhill, out of control is there that much of a difference in brand name and off brand?
1325193 tn?1450127436 I also changed from regular to generic because of insurance, when this started. Of course, mr hypochondriac, me, wonders if it is the generic causing this issues. Look, I know there are others suffering way worse. I just my misery to end. This is horrible.
Avatar n tn I am supposed to be taking 125mg of lexapro and I cant affors my meds so i have been out for 5 days and the depreshion is horrable as well as other things what can i do?
Avatar m tn Turns out it was teh generic brand of Lexapro (Aurobindo) that caused the problems. teh active ingredient can be +/- an dbe considered the same. Ipaid teh extra for the real Lex and felt better right away.
Avatar n tn There is no generic for Lexapro as far as I know. The generic you're probably talking about is an older drug from which Lexapro was derived, Celexa, but they aren't the same though they are similar. So two things probably happened -- because he didn't taper off Lexapro, he probably is suffering from withdrawal (even tapering can result in withdrawal from these meds) and possibly new side effects from the new med.
Avatar n tn One, you can always ask your doc to give you samples when and if he has them. Also, just recently, a generic preparation of Lexapro was released to the market. You could inquire at some of your local pharmacies, see who makes it, if they can get it, and make sure your doc's Rx reflects that the generic option is acceptable. You can also call the manufacturer of Lexapro (or visit their website) and ask what your options are if you're having trouble paying for it.
Avatar m tn My understanding is that Citapram is simply the generic form of Lexapro. My husband has cirrhosis and he was given the green light to take either (currently on Lexapro). It's made him feel better, though it's hard to say whether or not it's made him sleep better. Hope that helps.
Avatar m tn He is trying to decide if he should wait for the new treatment or do traditional. Is there any news about when the new treatment will be available? He is so discouraged and doesn't know what he is going to be able to manage. Is his likely to continue to feel badly? What can he do for symptoms?
Avatar n tn I doubt it. Escitalopram is the generic of Lexapro. I asked my psychiatrist if the generic works any differently, as every now and then you hear of generics not working quite as well. She said there is virtually no difference in the drugs, except for the fact that one is a brand name and one is a generic. However, I recently went through the same thing as you. I'd been on Lexapro for eight years and did so well on it, and out of the blue it stopped working.
Avatar n tn You do know that not all of the drugs you mentioned are ssris. Effexor is an snri, nortriptyline is a tricyclic. Fetzima is a newer snri. Remeron is a tetracyclic and is a notorious weight gainer. My psychiatrist practices geriatric psychiatry and only uses this med for patients who have stopped eating since it makes most people want to eat. I thought serzone was taken off the market for causing liver disease, although the generic is still available. Maybe it's back.
505677 tn?1263948093 s, they have a prescription program that is an small annual fee but has saved me -hundreds- on my medications. You can always check to see if Lexapro or the generic of it is on their plans. I have no insurance myself, so the plan there has been a life saver for me.
440171 tn?1204778801 thanks was wasnting to hear something good.i will get them filled tomorrow.i dont like taking ad but i know i need them.
Avatar n tn I am on my second week of tapering from 10 mg to 5 to 2.5 (today). Do not quit cold turkey. After reading all the scary posts online I braced for the worst, since I am prone to any side effects. My experience so far has been actually positive and I am feeling a boost in energy and happiness. I FEEL more, which means I need to be prepared for more lows/anxiety as well as the highs, but I am ready. Colors are brighter, music is more enjoyable, love feels deeper.
1295419 tn?1276822872 I have been working with my gp for my anxiety and will be going to see a psychiatrist next month. My gp has me on 20 mgs lexapro and it is working great. She is handing things over to the psychiatrist to handle and I am scared he will not keep me on the lexapro. I have only been on it for a few months but I am nervous he won't think I need 20 mgs or want to try something else. Not only do I think it works great for me but I get very bad withdrawal symptoms if I even miss a day.
Avatar f tn I had real bad shakes when on Lexapro so my Dr took me off of that and put me on Wellbutrin since I wasn't responding well to the SSRI's. I'm beginning to think that the med's aren't worth the effort.
Avatar f tn Sometimes my Insurance will deny drugs which have black box warnings or interactions. I have been able to get them over ridden by my Doctor talking to the insurance company.
Avatar m tn s had problems with holding her urine. At times it will just come out. She was put on a med. from the Vet. Does anyone know of a generic brand or natural one that will do the same. I can't keep going back paying office visits everytime she needs a new med.
Avatar n tn There was no taper or anything and she fared fine. My problem is that Celexa is not the generic for Lexapro and some doctors still refer to it as being the same med.
