Avatar f tn However, these set of symptoms may also be observed in a viral infection or some other kind of illness. To confirm if this is due to streptococcus bacteria, throat swab or culture and direct physical examination may be done. If this is due to a viral infection, it usually resolves after a few days. Rest, saline gargle and medicated lozenges usually provide symptomatic relief. If it persists, further management may need to be done. Take care and do keep us posted.

To confirm the presence of HIV infection, the most specific test would be testing for its antibodies with an ELISA test which is a screening test which looks for antibodies in the blood. The antibodies are usually produced within 1-3 months of the infection. Your need to consult your doctor for proper assessment.
Avatar f tn Now on day 20 my mild sore throat persists but with some white patches in the throat, minimal lymph gland swelling, mild joint stiffness, and a mild headache. Does this sound like acute HIV? Is a DNA test worthwhile, or do I need to wait the recommended three months to get tested using the antibody test?

Avatar n tn Throat congestion and white patches could indicate a throat infection. In response to the infection the body produces soft white debris which collects in the tiny indentations. Repeated salt water gargles will help. Mix one teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water and gargle. If the patches increase in size or become painful or if you develop fever or breathlessness then consult your doctor or go to the ER. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The swelling and discomfort could be due to a throat infection. It's unlikely to be due to throat cancer. White patches are common in many throat infections. The sore throat and tonsillitis which your son had may have contributed to it. In response to the infection the body produces soft white debris which collects in the tiny indentations in the tonsils called crypts. Repeated salt water gargles will help.

1414800 tn?1331674906 The other posters are correct, it is possible for you to get a sore throat--most likely streptococcus (strep throat). You can also get thrush, creamy white patches in the mouth and on the tongue. But, a yeast infection isnt an STI it's just an overgrowth of yeast. We all have it in our bodies (men and women alike) and it may depend on how your health is at the time, i.e if you consume alot of sweets, a diabetic, oral hygeine.
Avatar n tn IT IS STILL THERE FOR 7 MONTHS, I TRIED ALL ANTI-BACTERIAL SYRUPS AND TABLETS.. but of no use. Now i have 2 white spots and white patches on the throat, sometimes i can smell foul odor but not everyday. On and Off she is complaining that she is getting irritation on lower lips.
Avatar m tn Last week I was diagnosed with secondary syphilis, presenting as sore throat, headache, and fatigue x4 weeks and spotty rash x1 week. White mucous patches were present on the tonsils last week at the clinic visit. An RPR in August was non-reactive, but LFTs at that time were elevated 5x ULN. The LFTs returned to normal within 1-2 weeks. RPR last week was reactive with titer 1:32. I was treated 4 days ago with the standard 2.4M units Bicillin LA.

Avatar m tn The most common symptom of strep throat includes a sore, burning throat that may be red in color and covered with white patches. Other symptoms of strep throat include fever, headache, stomachache, nausea, chills, discomfort, loss of appetite, swollen lymph nodes and difficulty swallowing. Because strep throat is a bacterial infection, antibiotics are successful in treating it.
Avatar f tn Three days later i develop a sore throat, and odd taste in the back of my mouth. And yesterday i discoverd ALOT of little white patches on both of my tounsils (more on the right one though). I know it is not food, because i've had that problem before, and was able to pick the pieces out of small crevices near my tounsils. This time the patches seem to be connected to the actual tounsil, and won't budge when i scrape it.
