Common Questions and Answers about Viral throat infection remedies

209987 tn?1451939065 I am not a happy camper with antibiotic use, however in some cases this is necessary. On the other hand the infection may be viral and not due to bacteria. Unfortunately, many viral infections end up with a bacterial infection piggybacking. Lung infections can result min death. When you cough up the sputem examine it to determine the color. If it is yellowish or greenish the liklihood is the problem is bacterial.
Avatar f tn it started before he got the antibiotic though, and before the MRSA throat infection was diagnosed. And this all started with what I thought was a virus. Do you think he should get a sputum culture, and is that even possible when he's not coughing? Thanks again for all your advice, you've been very helpful, which is very much appreciated.. it makes this a lot harder that he's in another country and I can't talk to the doctors there.
Avatar n tn It's probably an infection, painful glands are one of the symptoms. It could be viral or bacterial. I've had pain alternating from one side to the other too.
Avatar n tn Loss of voice along with sore throat can be due to laryngitis (inflammation of the voice box), acidity with GERD causing inflammation of the voice box, viral infection or bacterial one. Hence it is important to find the cause. Consult an ENT. Meanwhile do warm saline gargles, drink warm lemonade, herbal tea and clear soups. See if this helps. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn It is not as bad as before when I could barely stand, but it is still there, and the fact that the pain is still there means I still have a fungal infection. Recently, my doctor said I have a candida infection, and gave me Diflucan (flucanozole) to take for 10 days. I just finished it and there was no apparent effect. Now, I'm not so sure it is a fungal infection. Urine and blood analyses done back in August showed no bacteria in the blood or urine. Could it still be a bacterial infection?
1939607 tn?1324292900 No swollen tonsil, no lump in neck, just the tender neck and the sore throat. To sum up, I have unilateral intermittent sore throat that tends to occur around evening and reaches its peak before i fall to sleep. No chills, no fever, no weakness, my appetite is the same, my energy levels are okay. Also, note that I had allergic rhinitis as a kid and it's the pollen season right now, even though I don't really know if that's anyway related.
Avatar n tn I am still trying to recover from viral infection. I thought that it was sinus infection. I was given Allegra but havent used it yet. Instead, I am using a nasal spray and just trying to do old fashioned remedies: humidifier, running hot showers to losen phlem. I have been sick for 6+ weeks now. Still feel terrible.
Avatar n tn SHe also takes Orapred when her symptons are bad and we are fighting to get them under control (usually when a viral infection comes along or just a sinus infection or drainage in generl) LOVELY.
Avatar m tn About the third week of August I came down with a mild sore throat. Lasted through the morning and passed. Next day felt fine enough, but the following day had a headache and fatigue. Three days after my first symptoms appeared my wife followed suit. Since then we have both had a full range of coming and going symptoms that mimic each other a day or two apart.
Avatar n tn thanks for your response. it could very well be strep as i have spent all day online researching the posibilities visa vie the symptoms .. but in truth, seems like it could be 3-4 other things based on my recent activies. one thing about the body aches .. i havent had the flu lately .. in fact in more than half a year .. so its highly doubtful that the body aches are being caused by that .. but its also possible that the body aches are being caused by something altogether different.
Avatar m tn Sounds like you have congestion from either a viral or bacterial infection or from an allergy. The mucus is dripping at the back from the nose. I suffer from chronic post nasal drip with the symptoms you describe, drives me insane too. The doctor prescribed me with a nasal spray to dry up the mucus. You can also try steam inhalations, take antihistamines in the event it may be a allergic reaction to dust or cigarette smoke or perfumes etc.
Avatar f tn If the doctor hasn't taken any swabs (especially after 2 rounds of antibiotics) I would suggest one to them/see another doctor. Who knows, maybe you have a viral infection instead of bacterial; maybe the bacteria you are infected with is antibiotic resistant. Either way, hard to tell, and those are the only things I can suggest.. Maybe you should investigate some natural health remedies if you are worn out from medical doctors.
Avatar n tn My question is if 1. if the test result shows strep throat but I have no symptoms and no sore throat any longer, do I still need to take the antibiotics? 2. if the test result shows something viral or bacterial or fungal (but as I say, the red dots have almost completely disappeared), do I still need to take the antibiotics? Can such an infection get healed in any other way? Please help. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Continual throat clearing Chronic throat irritation Chronic cough Hoarseness Excessive phlegm the throat Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) Constant sensation of something in the throat Swallowed food comes back up Post nasal drainage Weak voice Cracking voice Blockage of the breathing passage Spasm of the larynx (voice box) Wheezing Heartburn This condition is a result of both UES and LES not working correctly.
Avatar n tn But first I had the swine flu, followed by an ear inefection, then a sinus infection, and then the strep throat. This was over the course of two months, without a rest between any illness. I was prescribed antibiotics for each issue, but now I have a recurring sore throat. I was blaming my stress from school on my illness, but I am now on vacay and I am still getting sick. I am good for a day, then I crash.
Avatar n tn I am 10 W pregnant! started with sore throat 2 weeks back, was even admitted in the hosp as oral meds werent staying in with vommitting due to infection had cased serious dehyderation. now the infection is gone but its been 5 days and i havent slept as having baaaaaaaad dry cough and pain in the ball of the throat.cant swallow even warm water. and thus bad doc nw refuses to give any oral meds( allopathy) as she is scared for the baby....
Avatar n tn Also, I've seen some studies online that said a lot of sinus infections were fungal, which is why antibiotics don't help. I know my doctor says this is viral, but if it was viral it wouldn't have lasted 7 months!
Avatar f tn also it might be your mucus dripping back to your throat which causes infection and make it worse. Try keeping your throat warm especially in cold. It helps me.
Avatar m tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! You appear to have caught a viral or a bacterial infection in the throat from tongue piercing. It can also be a gastric reflux that is causing this feeling. Drink plenty of warm fluids like clear soups, herbal tea and warm lemonade. Add a pinch of salt to warm water and gargle with it. Take Vitamin C. Take any OTC anti-inflammatory and decongestant medicine.
Avatar f tn I've been suffering from the same problem my doctor has no clue but i have suspicions mold in my apartment and my mattress might be the problem along with a bad infection in my teeth i tried colloidal silver and hydrogen peroxide 3% solution and slept 6 hours without waking but after 2 nights it was back with a vengeance it is part viral and deep infection and doctors don't look for these.
Avatar n tn I've just been diagnosed with staph, and though the infection was really bad a year ago, I'm not suffering much now -- the sores have simply persisted on my skin. After reading all of the above, I'm glad I resisted my doctor's suggestion to go on antibiotics for a month; I'm trying several home remedies now (vitamin C + antibacterial soap + daily shower + diluted alcohol on skin + probiotics) while I wait for the test results to come in.
242516 tn?1368227505 A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process. Speaking of outbreaks, influenza is finally reaching Palo Alto right around now.
Avatar m tn It began in 1976 and re occurs every 5 to 6 years. I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out.
Avatar n tn Oil pulling is a new technique i'm trying but it seems to cut down on the swollen lymph nodes and amount of viral infection build up. I recommened everyone suffering from sinus problems to try these 2 things. They aren't a cure but they will help alot and keep you off antibiotics.
Avatar n tn Because this illness seems to be a first for you it sounds more like some kind of a sinus infection or other respiratory infection. Possibly viral since the antibotics don't seem to want to help. I'm 29 and I've had many similar infections, allergies seem to contribute to my illnesses starting. I've found that one of the best natural antibiotics is vitamin C. You can safely take large quantities, until you feel better.
Avatar n tn epigastric pain/pressure/fullness, the sensation of food or something being stuck in the esophagus/throat, belching, the sensation of being squeezed tightly by a rope or belt beneath the ribs/diaphragm, the inability at times to obtain a full breath, coughing. This has been going on for nearly 2-3 months and they are worsening. These are nearly the same symptoms I experienced while having gallbladder problems, except now there is no gallbladder! I do have an appt.
Avatar n tn Anyways, about 2 days ago I woke up with a horrible sore throat. I only slept for 3 hours, and to the best of my knowledge I had no sore throat proir to going to bed. I had smoked earlier in the night using a vaporizer (something i rarely do) as well as a spliff. I examined my throat in the mirror (something I've never really done before) and noticed that the back of my throat had various sized fleshy bumps (by fleshy I mean the same color as a healthy throat).
291885 tn?1404896807 carisa- since you posted your EBV numbers are those numbers what you have all the time or was that during an active infection? How could you tell (besides the way you felt) if the infection was active or not? Was there a difference in your EBV numbers during those times? I'm thinking I'll have my doctor run all my EBV tests again every few months to see where I stand.
Avatar n tn My nose feels open, my throat feels open, my stomach stops feeling nauseated, my muscles stop feeling tight and achy, and I stop feeling that CONSTANT string/ball in the back of my throat. Does anybody else here vomit this slimy, clear, ropey garbage?? I take Allegra, I do nasal washes, I used Nasarel steroid spray.
